Its rare to see a game looking better 2 years before his release. Well done ubisoft!!

NovusTerminus3648d ago

Actually it's not really. Especially going from Tech Demo for new hardware to actual release.

iHazelwood3647d ago

Remember when that FFVII tech demo was showed for PS3 and we all lost our minds at the graphics. Go ahead and compare games that came out 2 years after that and look at the graphics, almost any PS3 game surpasses that tech demo.

I think the real reason it looks downgraded is that so they could easily port it to last gen. They weren't going to develop two separate versions of the game for last and current gen.

Check out IGN's comparison video across all platforms, the graphics and effects are near identical other than resolution, you could tell the game wasn't designed in mind for a true current gen experience. Which is probably the reason they delayed it.

SuperBlur3648d ago

how dare they downgraded a game for which platform we didn't know the specs of ! HOW DARE THEY!

Th4Freak3648d ago

Are you implying that the they didn't know they were going to release this game for PC even though the 2012 demo ran on it? Or maybe I should remember you that the PC version got downgraded as bad as next-gen consoles?

starchild3648d ago

The game is already very demanding on the PC, things obviously had to be tweaked throughout development even on PC.

Nevertheless, it still looks outstanding and not too much different than the E3 demo from two years ago. The final game looks better than any of the footage they showed since the E3 2012 demo. It's not like they kept showing us the E3 demo all the way up to release to mislead us. We have known for over a year and a half exactly what we were getting.

Th4Freak3647d ago

@starchild That makes no sense at all, why? Because you can have the option to change the quality of the graphics on PC, so they could have leave it like that and that would have been the ultra high setting.

And if you really think that the retail version does look better than the 2012 E3 demo, well, there's nothing to do here...

I want the 2012 version.

UltraNova3647d ago

Dont worry you'll get it when WD 2 comes out..hopefully.

StrawberryDiesel4203648d ago

PS4 version looks fucking amazing at night when it's raining. I don't care what anyone says, it looks just as good as Infamous. I own both games and find Watch Dogs to be more enjoyable and it looks amazing for an open world game. Framerate is rock fucking solid and the way Aiden's coat blows in the wind while driving a motorcycle looks awesome. Fuck the haters, seriously. Loving this game.

uth113648d ago

Completely agree. Looks great always, but in the rain at night is amazing! Plays smooth, haven't encountered stuttering or screen tearing.

TOTSUKO3648d ago

I strongly agree. PS4 version looks amazing. Been playing it non stop since launch.

It is pretty polished for a Multiplat/CrossGen game. I am happy they delayed this, gamers should be happy too. A downgrade in graphics should be the least of our problems. At least it's not broken like an EA game.

Gemmol3648d ago

I think most people will agree with you that watch dogs is a better game then infamous, I still cannot get into that franchise I have friends who feel the same beside one, he loves infamous.....you only got one disagree I am shocked usually saying you like another game more then a Sony game usually get you 20 to 25 disagree

snookiegamer3648d ago

@StrawberryDiesel420

LOL Potty Mouth ....anyway, I agree 100% Watch Dogs is awesome! ...and #!#@ the haters too! ;)

Lou Ferrigno3648d ago

I'm with everyone on this, I agree too..
It's an amazing game both Visually and gameplay..

Graphics are amazing to stare at and the frame rate is ridiculously solid in SP campaign, idk about MP haven't tried yet.

Tomden023648d ago

Screen tear in Cop chases though

UnHoly_One3647d ago

Agreed on all points.

Night plus rain is gorgeous.

I think the game looks fantastic all the time, honestly.

Maybe it doesn't look quite as fancy as inFAMOUS:SS, but who cares? It's a great game.

I'm a huge inFAMOUS fan, and I wish they had taken some of the time they spent on those fancy graphics and made the game not suck. There are 3 types of side missions in Second Son, and most of them take about 10 seconds to complete. It's embarrassing.

I'd much rather have more things to do than have a pretty sunset to look at. Especially when that pretty sunset is static and doesn't change in real time.

Meanwhile, Watch Dogs has an unbelievable amount of stuff to do. I've played probably 20 hours and have only done 7 story missions, I'm still in Act 1. lol

I absolutely love this game. And as a huge fan of inFAMOUS, I have to say that this game is 100 times better than Second Son.

Th3o3648d ago

It was most likely running on PC hardware for most of them, and even then they were dev PCs which prob had very powerful card configurations.

BitbyDeath3648d ago (Edited 3648d ago )

PC didn't live up to it though so most likely just a CGI clip of what they were aiming for.

I always thought it unlikely they'd have the game up and running at that quality 2 years ago.

Nekroo913648d ago (Edited 3648d ago )

PC version doesent look like this, you can have 2 titans running in 1080p and the game still drops below 60fps (ultra settings)

I saw that i total halibut review. The game is poorly optimized.

what we saw wasnt real gameplay

Th3o3648d ago (Edited 3648d ago )

Re-read my comment, I said it WAS most likely running on PC in 2012 and 2013, which is why they could push the graphics higher and have more assets.

Since the consoles couldn't match their dev units, they had to tone down the full game.

Most likely even high end PCs couldn't do what they were trying to do.

Remember these are expensive dev units they are using with very powerful video cards (most like Designer cards).

I doubt it was CGI, if it were it would've been better looking. It looked rendered in real time.

ThatOneGuyThere3647d ago

its likely not as poorly optimized as much as just insanely complex. Not the graphics, but the CPU cycles on this game have to be fairly intense.

Pandamobile3648d ago

The E3 demo was all in-game graphics and gameplay, it was just a vertical slice (a small, highly polished chunk of the game) that was purposefully designed to show of what the game was supposed to be.

ThatOneGuyThere3647d ago

i think the biggest thing was that the AI was all scripted in the early demos, so more resources could be allocated to graphics. By time they finished the super complex AI and hacking system, they had to cut back on some visual things for optimal performance. we spend a lot of time on this site bitching about gameplay>graphics, but then when it happens, and that sacrifice is made, suddenly people want it the other way.

uth113648d ago

If you want to compare screen shots, then do it under the same lighting conditions or it's irrelevant!!

Watch Dogs Deserves A Remake, More Than Ever

With the world of information and technology, privacy and security growing every day, Watch Dogs deserves another chance in the spotlight, now more than ever.

RaidenBlack1031d ago

The only Ubi title that deserves a faithful remake right now is Splinter Cell 1.
All 2014+ Ubi titles are just underwhelming. Especially ones from 2016+ are just cancer.

LucasRuinedChildhood1031d ago (Edited 1031d ago )

Seriously, are we so far removed from Ubisoft actually making good games that people now praise Watch_Dogs in retrospect?

"Watch_Dogs has remained one of my favourite games of the last ten years." Jesus Christ.

HankHill1031d ago

I remember being so disappointed in Watch Dogs when I played it at release. It was alright, but I think I fell for the hype and I needed a game to play on my new PS4.

obidanshinobi1031d ago

This is what happens when mediocrity gets praised as good.
Standards are slipping across the whole entertainment industry.
What was once considering rubbish is now considered as OK, what once was OK is now being praised as good etc etc.

LamerTamer1030d ago

Everyone has their own likes. I liked it a lot myself. I played through it twice and liked the car chases and the open world with fairly decent environments and missions. It suffered from the whole downgrade thing where they showed graphics that weren't actually there. No game will appeal to everyone but it was still ambitious for it's time.

gantarat1031d ago

assassin's creed 1 should get a remake.

ExBee1031d ago

For certain! AC1 was brilliant at the time but with new graphics and gameplay it would be amazing! Do you prefer old combat or new though?

RaidenBlack1031d ago

I'd say a reimagining of AC1.
I direct AC1 remake would be a bad idea. It'll need better story pacing and significant better world building.

BlaqMagiq11030d ago

Old. Let it play like how it did with AC2-Syndicate style gameplay but refine the setting and story.

Profchaos1031d ago

It would need a lot changed for it to be enjoyable again as even back in 2007 on launch we were all complaining about it's repetitive gameplay go here perform one of three side quests repeat then assassination now do it over and over until a big battle with a unforgiving checkpoint system.

BlaqMagiq11030d ago

Absolutely. It needs it. The only AC I truly didn't enjoy.

chicken_in_the_corn1030d ago

I'd prefer it didn't. Ubisoft would make it so bloated, it wouldn't be anywhere near the original

smolinsk1031d ago (Edited 1031d ago )

Absolutely, this watch dogs legion was terrible boring.

Profchaos1031d ago (Edited 1031d ago )

As a fan of the franchise legion was garbage and I regretted my purchase for the first time in the franchise the entire thing felt like an experiment in NPC behaviour and released without the writers input on what makes a good story.

I don't think I'm alone in that feeling though as wrench and Aiden are brought back and the campaign was rewritten to fit them.

I am tempted to buy the season pass to play it again with Aiden but fool me twice shame on me I'm waiting for a deep sale

camel_toad1031d ago

Agreed. Despite the annoying hipness of the characters in part 2 I thought it was a really fun game. I was extremely disappointed and surprised at how many steps back they took with Legion. You'd think it was made by an entirely different team. Or was it?

It was just so devoid of fun.

LamerTamer1030d ago

Honestly one of my biggest annoyances with Legion is that they took out the camera views for the driving. I mean the behind the car view that they stuck us with is near unplayable. I always used a first person driving view. After two releases why did they take OUT features? I don't get it.

TheSinsibleOne1031d ago

The fist watchdog game was the best by far
After that they weren't weird and annoying with that hipster stuff. Aiden was a badass.

LamerTamer1030d ago

I thought so at first too. I got used to it and it ended up being good after some play time. I just had to give it a chance.

TheEnigma3131031d ago

Remake the PoP series from xbox/ps2/gc era

RaidenBlack1031d ago

They are remaking Sands of Time.

TheEnigma3131031d ago

That's good news. Hopefully it's done right.

Inside the Driver game that died so that Watch Dogs could live

From VG247: "When cars slide, they leave tyre marks. In a game like Driver, they’re an aesthetic touch, part of the inherent cool of a handbrake turn. But those dark shadows in the road also tell a story. From tyre marks, you can determine the speed of a vehicle, when it started to skid, and its ultimate direction of travel – long after the car itself has vanished into the distance."

vallencer1095d ago

Different spellings in different parts of the world friend. Tyre is a correct way to spell it.

Pridefall1095d ago

Dunno why you got downvpted when tyre is correct in Australia.

mikefizzled11095d ago

The mystery that is En Fore Gee

neutralgamer19921095d ago

Give us driver San Francisco remastered

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1095d ago

Why did they stop making some of the best games ever? Driver was one of them.

Gameseeker_Frampt1095d ago

Assassins Creed 2 showed Ubisoft how to make money and Far Cry 2 showed them that gamers don't like complex ideas. Now Ubisoft just turns out games that are just variations of the same thing.

WeAreLegion1095d ago

Best driving mechanics ever made. Nothing has come close.

Gardenia1095d ago

A story driven game with pure driving gameplay. I'd love to see a new Driver game or a remake of the first one.

ApocalypseShadow1095d ago

Yes. This one. A definite remake of the first without adding any ridiculous fluff. The first game had great physics and sound for its time. The start of the car in the beginning cinema I watched constantly. My father and uncles were big muscle and classic car freaks. Only thing crazy about the game was the relentless cops in the last level. Insane the way those police cars were and launched at you.

Bleemcast made it look better just like PC emulators. But would definitely take a remake.
