List reveals Metroid Prime Wii U, The Legend of Zelda Wii U at E3 2014: analysis

Surprise. Nintendo might be showing off a new Metroid Prime game for the Wii U. Who will be developing it?

I don't see any mention of Metroid like the article suggests.

Regardless, I would love to see a new entry in the Prime series. Either that or a new 2D entry for the 3DS. Could really use the depth of view effect where the 3D could be used to showcase depth with the foreground and background.

"There hasn’t been a new console Metroid game for a while, and the last one wasn’t necessarily well-received."

Other M was released 3 1/2 years ago, that's quite recent, just because it wasn't well received doesn't mean it didn't get released. Metroid for the U would be awesome but I feel fans would have a b***h fit again like they did with Other M.

I know right? Everyone acts like we haven't seen metroid in forever. Everyone was like, "hey didnt we just get Donkey Kong" when metroid came out the same year.

I hope for a new metroid soon though.

randomass1713635d ago

To be fair, Other M's writing and wonky gameplay made it a pretty forgettable experience. At least for fans like me. And in this industry, 3.5 years is actually quite a while to wait for a followup. :P

thehobbyist3635d ago

Correction. It wasn't well received by fans. But it got a 79 on metacritic(Mostly 4/5 reviews) and sold well. And it wouldn't be another case of Other M since Sakamoto. The guy responsible for that train wreck, no longers works on Metroid.

fossilfern3635d ago

As someone who has been a long time Metroid fan I actually enjoyed Other M. Not the best in the series but its not totally terrible either.

manaxknight13635d ago

@fossilfern..i think for all the long time metroid fans, Other M hit sweet spots of nostalgia for me..it wasn't a bad game at all

Ghost_Nappa3635d ago

I would buy a wii u for this

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno95d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Pretty sure Silk Song and Dragon Age are going smoothly. The other 2 can be assumed to be quietly cancelled knowing their publishers and Metroid will most likely be shown off this year.

Michiel1989118d ago

Dragon Age going smoothly??? Directors leaving, people leaving in general, terrible working conditions....not sure how you define smoothly.

VincentVanBro20d ago

lol Dragon Age development has been anything but smooth

I remember in 2017 when Nintendo showed off the Metroid Prime 4 logo, and some Nintendo defenders claimed "Just because they only showed a logo, doesn't mean that's all they've worked on for the game."

As history has proven, they were wrong. Nintendo showed off a logo back in 2017 because that's literally all they had.

I think Beyond Good and Evil 2 can stay there unless they are going to just rename it to a new IP

DOMination-118d ago

Pretty sure BG&E2 is dead at this point - along with the other game Ancel was working on before he left - I think it was called WILD. Anyone remember that from a PS conference years ago?

Dreadwolf isn't in development hell anymore and is finally getting its reveal in the summer - since 2016 the game has been scrapped and restarted three times but its been going pretty well since the last reboot when EA finally allowed BioWare to just get on with making a single player game.

I'm not sure Perfect Dark is in development hell either - like it could be but we haven't really heard much to suggest either way - imo they just showed the trailer off when the game was still in pre-production. Xbox were desperate for anything and this is all they had at the time. And the reason we haven't heard anything since is just because it's in normal development and games take 5 years to make. The help from a support studio was typically overblown on N4G because nearly every game has this.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic126d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon125d ago (Edited 125d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast125d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul125d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.
