No, I'm not a woman, I'm not going to roleplay as one. I'm not an driven by emotional needs and desires, so I can't make the decisions that a woman would make during the various situations that RPGs put the player in.

I understand it's cool to look at female polygonal ass while playing RPGs - it's just not my thing. I play a guy because I am one. If they want to force a female protagonist and have a RPG, that's cool for them, I just won't be supporting it.

If you're just trying to play you then you're not really role playing. I'd rather have a straight up custom character but I don't mind playing females at all. In fact I love it. They're far more aesthetically pleasing imo.

I don't think he's saying as much role-playing as he is situation-playing. I can dig that. I have no desire to be other people, I personally like who I am. However, I do like the idea of being in different worlds. Because of that, I make my customer characters as close to me as I can. That lets "me" go out and explore new places without having to worry about a character's motivations.

I have no problems playing games with a female lead, I have a problem with playing RPGs with a female as the lead.

When I play a RPG, I immerse myself in it, I sort of "become" the character - that can't happen if it's a female. RPGs should have options, not force you down one path.

Rockstar could easily do that if they do the same thing with GTA 6 that they did with 5 with 3 characters. They could easily make one female and no one would bitch, it would be a good idea.

I felt the same way until I accidentally picked a female character in Dark Souls. I actually found myself relating to her more than any rpg character I've ever created. Mainly it felt good to subvert the trope of women being 'damsels in distress.'

Just curious (I'm not trying to insinuate anything): how would you feel if the character were a male with a different ethnicity to you?

I have the same issues if it's a roleplaying game and the character is a different ethnicity than I am. When I roleplay I put myself in the game I can't do that if I can't make the character the same sex and ethnicity.

I don't mind it. I remember playing Tomb Raider on PS1. Never stopped me from enjoying the game at all. If truely an RPG though. Why not go with Mass Effect's main choice where it's main character can be any character you want. Any race, and Male/Female and so on.

Skyrim, Fallout, and a few other RPGs out there show this as well.

Really?? I think playing as the opposite sex in anRPG can lead to a different experience. I'm bored with Male Character leads in video games. Fem Shep was a great expansion, i enjoyed her more than dude sheep, she felt more like a leader than he ever was. Game developers need to try something new.

I'm all for them going to new stuff. Just make the game for both male and female leads. Like I said, I have no problem with female leads in non-RPG style experiences. But when it's a RPG, I don't roleplay as a woman.

After reading all your comments on the subject, I'm still not getting it. It's no different than if it were some other genre. A female character is a female character; you don't have to BE the character you make in an rpg any more than you have to BE Lara Croft, or any other female in gaming.

As for me, I live life as a male. I play most games to get away from life; can't get too much further away than playing a female.

Plus, you know, easier on the eyes.

I've never played an RPG with a female lead before, so not sure if it will impact the game for me or not.

I do know I didn't much care for the latest TR, I just couldn't get into the game. Not sure if it was because the lead was a women, or if it was just because of the gameplay itself.

Would be nice if GG gave us a choice though, but it's entirely possible that this won't be an issue at all. It just depends on how the game is played and what kind of RPG it is.

Do we know if this is a TPS or a FPS yet? Cause that would make a huge difference.

If this is what I think it is, judging from possible concept art. I follow a lot of artists, and if they're using this guys art I'm thinking, then be prepared. He draws incredible Safari animals in robot form, like wildebeests, rhino's, and a vulture with a medical kit on its back. He numbers his drawings in like a Guerrilla Games style logo, mixed with a transformer face symbol.

Guerrilla Games and robot dinos got me instantly excited. Nuff said. Shinobi has been providing legitimate leak after leak so I honestly have small doubt that this is fake.

I just like to remind people when reading these articles, Shinobi and Superannuation are two insiders that you can trust. Super leaked Far Cry 4 earlier this year before the reveal, back in like February, plus other stuff. Shinobi's credentials are in the article.

If this info holds up, it would definitely be like a breath of fresh air coming from GG, as they've been doing Killzone for about the last decade. Glad to see them doing something different, especially something Open World.

The first thing that actually came to my mind when reading the description was Enslaved...it had lush environments, robot enemies (including a robot dino looking one), and the red-headed woman (Trip) that accompanies you throughout the game...just a thought...anyways can't wait to see more from this. I just hope GG is able to craft a great story and some memorable characters in this game.

I think GG have been wanting to create something that wasn't an FPS or a Killzone game for many years now. They may just go all out in terms of creativity, design and wonderful vibrant art style. Since we know GG consist of great artists and technical wizards, knowing it's also going to be an open-world title excites me even more.

BTW, they have the lead writer from Fallout: New Vegas on board, so I wouldn't worry about story and characters for this game. http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

I'm liking the sound of this game so far. Dino Crisis comes to mind, if only because it's a dinosaur game with a red-headed female lead. I, for one, am glad Gurerilla is taking a chance on a female lead. I think the stigma attached to female leads needs to die a horrible death. In other media, people aren't afraid to produce a story with a female lead, so why should videogames be any different? In fact, if gamers keep setting arbitrary boundaries like that, then it's kind of hypocritical to criticize the medium for its lack of creativity. Also, FemShep FTW!:D I play videogames to immerse myself in a reality other than my own. I don't care what my character's gender, race, or creed is. Also, robot dinos.:D That is all I need to know.

The concept behind this game sounds more reminiscent of the creativity behind Sony's Studio Cambridge, which eventually became Guerrilla Cambridge, and is now a development studio under the umbrella of Guerrilla Games. The studio was most well known for the Medievil series, and I'm personally quite fond of Primal. If any of the staff behind those games is still around, they work under Guerrilla now.
