Watch_Dogs - This Is What Ubisoft Targeted For Next-Gen, Possible Extra PC Enhancements Uncovered

NeoGAF’s member ‘Vuze’ has shared three Watch_Dogs screenshots – captured by NeoGAF’s Vortex – from what seems to be a ‘hidden’ render configuration. According to Vuze, these settings were the ones that Ubisoft was aiming for the PS4 and Xbox One versions, before it being downgraded to its final build.

What is this downgrade you speak of?... psssffftt haha, sorry couldn't keep a straight face with that.

zeee3648d ago (Edited 3648d ago )

I haven't played the game yet. It's a UBISOFT game so I am waiting for it to drop to like $40 something in a month but the colors in those images in the article look over saturated and the they also look over exposed.

I was having this discussion at least a couple of months ago with my friend and I said to him that even though it is too early to tell but WD looks a bit repetitive. I mean, every single video I saw had the same formula. Again, I haven't played the game but how about the guys who have played it? Do things get repetitive or did Ubi manage to keep it fresh?

NewZealander3648d ago (Edited 3648d ago )

im playing it...but im not a fan, its just a GTA ripoff with hacking tacked on, and the game just looks like a good 360 ps4 game, nothing next gen about it, ohh all those shiny windows...avoid disappointment and dont look too close!

RumbleFish3648d ago

I wait for it to drop to €5 on Steam. If it doesn't, I won't buy. :)

bloop3648d ago

@zeee I haven't played much of the campaign because I keep getting sidetracked with all the other things to do. I'm really enjoying the game so far anyway. It's like a mix between AC, Splinter Cell and GTA with hacking thrown in. If you liked those games you'll probably really enjoys Watch Dogs. It's not as much fun as GTA though :-/ The graphics/physics downgrades are really disappointing too. I'm on PS4 and the game only looks marginally better than GTA:V, and physics wise Ubi have a LOT of work to do if they want to catch up to R*. There's just so many small touches and attention to detail in GTA that you take for granted. So far it's probably an 8 for me. Not the first "true next gen" experience I was hoping it would be, but still a good game.

elhebbo163648d ago

You can already get it for $40 on PC.

McGamer3648d ago

NewZealander obviously doesn't have a clue about game design if he thinks a hacking feature can be simply "tacked on" to any game. I see a lot of backseat whiners posting about a game they couldn't design themselves.

Probably start seeing them whine next that they deserve the end scene to be changed like what happened to 'Mass Effect'.

The game looks fine to me and am enjoying it better than any GTA version.

N4Flamers3648d ago

I give it an 8.5 there are a lot of things to do and I am not bored with it. I lose a few hours just messing around. Infamous ss is a better looking game in my opinion but I like all the side activities. Im from chicago so I've been trying to find my house. I found navy pier today, but no ferris wheel?

rivencleft3648d ago

I'm having a lot of fun with the game, are the graphics truly next-gen? Answer is no, but it's still a pretty game (playing on PS4), it's hella fun too, like others have said I keep trying to play the campaign but get side tracked by all the other stuff you can do, it was worth the $60 to me. To me it's a new take on a sandbox game, the hacking is fun, love infiltrating gang hideouts using stealth hacking camera to camera and getting the attention of a crony then blowing him up by hacking a steam pipe. I can see myself spending a ton of hours on this game.

Bubbamilk3648d ago

I have put in about 10 hours already which is quite a bit for me. Was concerned at first because it didn't look as good as I expected then I realized some areas are much more detailed than others. After about 4 hours of playing I realized this is the first game I've played on my ps4 that does feel different from games of the previous generation. The hacking is way cooler than what I expected and some areas are absolutely gorgeous.

I understand why a lot of people may not like it but I would also say they are not willing to give it a chance. I tried to keep realistic expectation and because of that I have been blown away. The hacking gives u so much control and it never feels like just added features. U have real control over the city and the people.

Everyday I do something and it starts a different chain reaction that leaves me thinking wow I was not expecting that. It is like gta but it is still a completely new experience. Really fresh and exciting. Never really know what to expect when I turn it on to play so don't cancel it out. It is an incredibly detailed game. I think most people just had unrealistic expectations and then saw it looks and plays like gta and immediately wrote it off.

I haven't regretted spending the 60 for even a second. Compare it to assassins creed instead of gta and u will see they put a lot of time and love into this game

Shadonic3647d ago

I'm enjoying it, the biggest issues I've had with it are the whole Uplay thing and the matchmaking not working most of the time when you want it too. Its awesome being invaded and invading someone. I invaded someone and casually walked by him like in the first WD trailer, I felt like a boss. If they fix the matchmaking and add in things like being able to invade friends or people who have invaded you then i dont see why it would be a bad buy. Besides the story being kinda meh, in terms of playability it blows Infamous second son out of the water so far, there's so much to do.

FORGET THE E3 GRAPHICS!

the ps4 cant even handle watchdogs with the current graphics it has:

rivencleft3647d ago

@Bubbamilk

the hacking is fun as hell, i'm enjoying everything about this game, but it made me chuckle last night watching cars drive across a bridge then hacking it, lifting the bridge watching the cars slide back down.

It's the little things in life.

snookiegamer3647d ago (Edited 3647d ago )

@rivencleft "Well Said"

I love Watch Dogs, it does look next gen (PS4), and it's not repetitive for me at all. I'm now 30 hours in and so many little things about WD still surprise me.

I'm happy the game is a success for Ubisoft, breaking all their own records for fastest selling game. Anything that could have been improved on WD will be for Watch Dogs 2.

I wouldn't pay much attention to some of the ridiculous comments about WD. We all know there's a loud vocal minority of anti-watchdogs haters trolling anything WD related on N4G.

These same people hated on GTA V too, and will hate on Bungies Destiny no doubt. These so-called 'Gamers' need to just keep away from Watch Dog related articles if the game is so bad, but no, they're here spreading negativity as per usual ;/

16bitNutritionist3648d ago

I really love the game, been playing it two days solid now and I am happy so far. Lots of content, looks beautiful in some parts, love online and it handles really well. The only problem I have is that the skyscrapers all look very low res and samey. Dunno what it is but they just look bland and out of place no matter where on the map I view them from.

Skate-AK3648d ago

That first screenshot looks really good. I like the exaggerated color.

frostypants3648d ago

Yeah, that's some good Photoshopping. Another great article from dsogaming...you know, had they bothered to actually verify the credibility of their source.

johny53648d ago (Edited 3648d ago )

Yeah, like we couldn't tell without a renderer....

Transporter473648d ago

Hell if they could of had it look like that by November 2014 I wouldn't care as long as it looks like that.

Watch Dogs Deserves A Remake, More Than Ever

With the world of information and technology, privacy and security growing every day, Watch Dogs deserves another chance in the spotlight, now more than ever.

RaidenBlack1031d ago

The only Ubi title that deserves a faithful remake right now is Splinter Cell 1.
All 2014+ Ubi titles are just underwhelming. Especially ones from 2016+ are just cancer.

LucasRuinedChildhood1030d ago (Edited 1030d ago )

Seriously, are we so far removed from Ubisoft actually making good games that people now praise Watch_Dogs in retrospect?

"Watch_Dogs has remained one of my favourite games of the last ten years." Jesus Christ.

HankHill1030d ago

I remember being so disappointed in Watch Dogs when I played it at release. It was alright, but I think I fell for the hype and I needed a game to play on my new PS4.

obidanshinobi1030d ago

This is what happens when mediocrity gets praised as good.
Standards are slipping across the whole entertainment industry.
What was once considering rubbish is now considered as OK, what once was OK is now being praised as good etc etc.

LamerTamer1030d ago

Everyone has their own likes. I liked it a lot myself. I played through it twice and liked the car chases and the open world with fairly decent environments and missions. It suffered from the whole downgrade thing where they showed graphics that weren't actually there. No game will appeal to everyone but it was still ambitious for it's time.

gantarat1031d ago

assassin's creed 1 should get a remake.

ExBee1031d ago

For certain! AC1 was brilliant at the time but with new graphics and gameplay it would be amazing! Do you prefer old combat or new though?

RaidenBlack1030d ago

I'd say a reimagining of AC1.
I direct AC1 remake would be a bad idea. It'll need better story pacing and significant better world building.

BlaqMagiq11030d ago

Old. Let it play like how it did with AC2-Syndicate style gameplay but refine the setting and story.

Profchaos1031d ago

It would need a lot changed for it to be enjoyable again as even back in 2007 on launch we were all complaining about it's repetitive gameplay go here perform one of three side quests repeat then assassination now do it over and over until a big battle with a unforgiving checkpoint system.

BlaqMagiq11030d ago

Absolutely. It needs it. The only AC I truly didn't enjoy.

chicken_in_the_corn1030d ago

I'd prefer it didn't. Ubisoft would make it so bloated, it wouldn't be anywhere near the original

smolinsk1031d ago (Edited 1031d ago )

Absolutely, this watch dogs legion was terrible boring.

Profchaos1031d ago (Edited 1031d ago )

As a fan of the franchise legion was garbage and I regretted my purchase for the first time in the franchise the entire thing felt like an experiment in NPC behaviour and released without the writers input on what makes a good story.

I don't think I'm alone in that feeling though as wrench and Aiden are brought back and the campaign was rewritten to fit them.

I am tempted to buy the season pass to play it again with Aiden but fool me twice shame on me I'm waiting for a deep sale

camel_toad1030d ago

Agreed. Despite the annoying hipness of the characters in part 2 I thought it was a really fun game. I was extremely disappointed and surprised at how many steps back they took with Legion. You'd think it was made by an entirely different team. Or was it?

It was just so devoid of fun.

LamerTamer1030d ago

Honestly one of my biggest annoyances with Legion is that they took out the camera views for the driving. I mean the behind the car view that they stuck us with is near unplayable. I always used a first person driving view. After two releases why did they take OUT features? I don't get it.

TheSinsibleOne1031d ago

The fist watchdog game was the best by far
After that they weren't weird and annoying with that hipster stuff. Aiden was a badass.

LamerTamer1030d ago

I thought so at first too. I got used to it and it ended up being good after some play time. I just had to give it a chance.

TheEnigma3131031d ago

Remake the PoP series from xbox/ps2/gc era

RaidenBlack1030d ago

They are remaking Sands of Time.

TheEnigma3131030d ago

That's good news. Hopefully it's done right.

Inside the Driver game that died so that Watch Dogs could live

From VG247: "When cars slide, they leave tyre marks. In a game like Driver, they’re an aesthetic touch, part of the inherent cool of a handbrake turn. But those dark shadows in the road also tell a story. From tyre marks, you can determine the speed of a vehicle, when it started to skid, and its ultimate direction of travel – long after the car itself has vanished into the distance."

vallencer1095d ago

Different spellings in different parts of the world friend. Tyre is a correct way to spell it.

Pridefall1095d ago

Dunno why you got downvpted when tyre is correct in Australia.

neutralgamer19921095d ago

Give us driver San Francisco remastered

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1095d ago

Why did they stop making some of the best games ever? Driver was one of them.

Gameseeker_Frampt1095d ago

Assassins Creed 2 showed Ubisoft how to make money and Far Cry 2 showed them that gamers don't like complex ideas. Now Ubisoft just turns out games that are just variations of the same thing.

WeAreLegion1095d ago

Best driving mechanics ever made. Nothing has come close.

Gardenia1095d ago

A story driven game with pure driving gameplay. I'd love to see a new Driver game or a remake of the first one.

ApocalypseShadow1095d ago

Yes. This one. A definite remake of the first without adding any ridiculous fluff. The first game had great physics and sound for its time. The start of the car in the beginning cinema I watched constantly. My father and uncles were big muscle and classic car freaks. Only thing crazy about the game was the relentless cops in the last level. Insane the way those police cars were and launched at you.

Bleemcast made it look better just like PC emulators. But would definitely take a remake.
