Watch Dogs Raises Graphics Bar On PS4 For Open World Games? Sorry, Infamous: Second Son Looks Better

Someone recently called Ubsioft's Watch Dogs as the best looking open world title on Playstation 4 and added that it sets new graphical standards for the genre on Sony's console. To back these bold claims, few screenshots showcasing lightning, shadow effects and textures was shared. If those screenshots raised the bar on Playstation 4, what about Sucker Punch's Infamous: Second Son?

DVS-Zev3641d ago

I can't really argue against this.Infamous was/is hands down the best looking game i have ever played.

ZodTheRipper3641d ago

I agree but I have to add "on console" to that statement.
I'm currently playing a heavily modded Skyrim and it looks so glorious that even inFamous can't keep up :D

NewMonday3641d ago

I tried using those mods on the GTX680 (about twice the gpu power of the PS4) but could barley get a slide show.

sinjonezp3641d ago

I have been playing watch dogs on PC at 1080p with hbao+ and I still think that graphically something is just missing. Infamous 2nd uses some very cool graphic tricks and I think it is a better looking game. I honestly can say that and I'm just an avid gamer, PC, ps4, xb1. Can't wait to see what the mod community do with watch dogs.

DVS-Zev3641d ago

Why do i have to add "on console" to this? This is a submission about PS4, talking about two PS4 games. So naturally, i'm talking about consoles.

I'll never understand why PC gamers are so ridiculously insecure.

Sethry1013641d ago

@newmonday
I run a very heavily modded skyrim on a 760 very happily, just have to use HD textures not 2k or I have very bad texture load stutters.

On topic
I have to say my personal order of best looking games, Modded skyrim > Infamous SS > Watch Dogs.
BUT vanilla skyrim does not even compete, so best vanilla game I have ever played is Infamous SS.

AndrewLB3641d ago

NewMonday- You obviously don't know how to setup Skyrim with lots of mods because conflicts and overlapping mods will cripple the FPS. Install mods using Nexus Mod Manager, BOSS to find/resolve load order, Wrye-Bash to repair, organize, and optimize, then boot the game using SKSE Loader 1.9.32. You probably just threw a ton of mods together without reading any of the descriptions and changed uGrids to 7 or 9, not understanding what it does. Hint: It doesn't need uGrids increased to look incredible on a GTX680.

Mine looks like this with very playable frame rates on a gtx 680. Runs between 35-50fps. http://i1248.photobucket.co...

AgentSmithPS43641d ago

How childish (including the agrees).

ZodTheRipper3641d ago

@DVS-Zev:
I said that I have to add it, not you. Of course inFamous is the currently best looking console game that can rival any high end PC output, I never denied that. The Order:1886 looks even better than anything I've seen on PC yet so please don't call me an "insecure PC Gamer".

HappyWithOneBubble3641d ago

So you saying for Skyrim to look good it have to be heavily modded? Infamous must look 10x better than a none modded Skyrim right. Infamous already looks good out the box with no mod upgrades. That says a lot about Imfamous and how powerful the PS4 is.

Gasian3641d ago

@sinjonezp Where is that Wii u love at? :(

Anyways I totally agree with you and as an avid gamer myself with a lot of my parents money to spend and throw at these consoles and games. Watching the video comparisons, I just am disappointed of the lack of optimization the pc version has. Infamous: SS is probably the best looking game I have played in the my life, but that is just my opinion.

I hope you all have a splendid day enjoying the console/pc of your choice, I am still very excited to play this game. Sorry for the grammatical error I am tired and this week I am getting ready for graduation :)

For now here is an image to show how much of my parents money I use :D (for now)

Army_of_Darkness3641d ago

OMG. That wasn't even a fair comparison lol! Infamous SS visually slaughtered watch dogs to the point where it sometimes looked even last Gen in comparison...

PLASTICA-MAN3641d ago

Indeed, that is what I thought too. For a game that its pure gameplay relies on cars, WD has PS2 like cars even on ultra while ISS has much better cars even though you don't drive them. Not only that, but characters' models, textures lighting and of course particules are way better in ISS and you have more freedom and more places to visit in ISS because you can even go on the roofs of buildings while in WD I am sure those parts aren't even modeled lol, but the most important thing is ISS RUNS AT 1080p NATIVE WITH AROUND 45 FPS.

Rickgrimes953641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

I agree it is the best looking game I've ever played, but infamous was made specifically for ps4 only watch dogs is multiplat.the guys over at sucker punch were able to focus on one console and get tons of power from it an make a great looking game. An I have no doubt watch dogs will be a great looking game too

NewMonday3641d ago

The Order looks better than issue, and they say Uncharted 4 is even much better than the Order,

And as far as racing games it Deiveclub

oof463641d ago

Also, Infamous: SS, while an open world game, has a smaller world than Watch Dogs.

If both games are fun, what does it matter, right?

Ricegum3641d ago

Yeah I agree. Infamous looks great, but you also have to take into consideration that there seems to be more going on in watch dogs, more cars, people, larger world. But I do agree, infamous is probably the best looking console game I've played, and the effects are amazing.

NewMonday3641d ago

on WD it is mostly just Street level, in ISS you play everywhere you can reach.

AnEwGuY3641d ago

You need to play more games then....specifically, on PC.

AnEwGuY3641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

LOL? It's just like playing on an uber-console. I play all my favorite multiplat games on PC, and still use my XBOX wireless controller ; best of both worlds. If you can't afford it, that's cool...but it's silly and immature to just "lol" something you know nothing about.

@ TheDevKit : No, he said "best LOOKING"; read again.

BitbyDeath3641d ago

You need a heavily modded game to beat infamous though, nothing out of the box does.

Beastforlifenoob3641d ago

But how can you play more games when less games are there (not talking about dumb indies):
Infamous
GTA V
Red Dead
Destiny
The last of us
Killzone
Metal gear solid V
Driveclub
Uncharted
Gran Turismo
Little big planet
God of war
heavy rain
Ratch and clank
REsistence
Oh and also have fun with your shady PC ports which is 99% of PC games.

Father__Merrin3641d ago

console gaming beats pc gaming its cheaper more comfortable and more social

all the gaming talk is about consoles, just look at thier mocking lol once console exclusive start flooding in they always remain quite because they cant play them, whilst console gamers will still get most of the pc games anyway that play at good settings

i7's lmao

Utalkin2me3641d ago

@AnEwGuY

Just stop guy seriously. Maybe you should play some console games and you would be surprised yourself.

TheDevKit3641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

To be fair, he said it's the best game he's ever played.

I've played a lot of games on PC, and yeah there's certainly some better looking games, which do run at 60+ FPS, but Infamous is still a great looking game.

Utalkin2me3641d ago

Then please do name them. Straight out of the box which open world games on PC is better looking?

HeavenlySnipes3641d ago

Not open world but I played Crysis 3 on my computer at medium and its still the best looking game I've ever played

I don't own Watch Dogs, but it looks as good as the most recent Splinter Cell game on the PC. Still good, but not better than InFamous which is still the best looking open world game I've played

GROTSTOMPA3641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

@Utalkin2me I don't really want to be part of this conversation as it's absolutely ridiculous to put PC in with the console wars, and shame on other PC users who indulge in this nonsense, as they're all insanely different. However, for you in particular, "Utalkin", do you play anything PC? Do you grasp what a PC is, and why it should never be compared to consoles? Do you follow any of their games past, or future? Prices/open-source/hardware? Do you understand that all programming for every game/software on the planet is done on a type of PC? That all "Exclusives" are purely a marketing scheme that people perpetuate, and has nothing to do with the PC's "limitations"? Clearly not.

What I linked below is something that is not only over 100x's larger in terms of content and open World-Scale than "Second Son", with near endless content, in-depth character customization, and a more robust combat system, but in terms of Technology used, it is far more advanced. Can you fathom what this looks like above 1080p, like 1440p, or 2,000++++p on this scale? This is ((1)) single game of (SEVERAL). I'm not tooting PC's horn, just being honest here, should I have lied for others? I'm not being mean, but don't assume towards things you don't (care) to understand. You did ask after all.

Dasteru3641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

@Utalkin2me:

Far Cry 3
Watch Dogs (95% original E3 visuals on PC)
Arma 3
DayZ
Crysis 3 (Not accessibly open world but still rendered open world in several areas)
There are even several newer MMOs that look better than SS.

l-Mc-I3641d ago

I agree, infamous second son is the best looking game I've played(I don't play pc) and what makes that even more impressive is the fact that it's an open world game.

Buzz7S3641d ago

You must be new to gaming if you think that.

ravensly3641d ago

i agree infamous second son is the best looking game but there are stuffs that infamous doesnt do

1.have you ever ai someone covering themself with newspaper in the rain...no ?

2.does infamous second son has complex ai.....no ?

3. does infamous second son has interiors simulation......no?

4.does infamous second son has tesselation on water?noo it looked ugly

5.does infamous has realtime reflections and effects......most of them but some are pre baked

6.do you drive vehicles in infamous......no

7.do ai react to your actions.....yes but they only run if you shoot....

8.does infamous second son has weather system....yes it has but no complex( fyi watch dogs has better weather system )

9.in infamous you are free to go anywhere and its particle effects are way better.

10.is infamous a multiplatform.....no its a exclusive

(the less platform to work the better optimization and no last gen gen systems to hold back)

11.watch dogs is a multiplatform.

12.watch dogs looks dull in day but it looks awesome in night time. i blame ubisoft for lightning.

anyways both are different games and both are awesome and must buy.

killzone6193641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

infamous SS world lacks life though. No dynamic weather, no shadows at night and a smaller city leaves more room for graphics.

WD is a real virtual city. Infamous SS is a lifeless playground that cuts edges for better graphics.

Flames763641d ago

You should really play ryse then

ITPython3641d ago

Ryse is an interactive cutscene game, and even then it doesn't come remotely close to Infamous:SS graphics which is an OPEN-WORLD game.

With that said, you should really play Infamous:SS then.

ITPython3641d ago

Watch Dogs is actually the worst looking open-world game on the PS4. The game is not graphically impressive in the least. It is stuck somewhere in limbo between GTA5 last-gen and Infamous:SS this gen, and sadly it is closer to GTA5 than it is Infamous.

This game is going to be all about gameplay, not visuals.

Sy_Wolf3641d ago

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought when I saw that article too. It does certainly set the bar for graphical fidelity of third party open world games though.

chrissx3641d ago

Infamous 2nd son is the best looking console open world game to date,no arguments there.

WalterWJR3641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

You are probably right. I have not seen WD on ps4 first hand yet though. the PC version of watch dogs beats second son in most regard not including the superior character animations and particle physics in the latter.

Infamous character models are insane, the only thing letting them down is the hair.

starchild3641d ago

I agree with you. Watch Dogs is the most alive game I have seen. There is constant motion and dynamism in Watch Dogs and the lighting engine is amazing. Infamous Second Son has better textures on average and more impressive particle effects, but Watch Dogs is more impressive in most other areas.

Utalkin2me3641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

I have to disagree. The PC version of watch dogs doesn't IMO look as good as ISS. The characters and textures and the scale of the game is much better on ISS, when i mean scale im talking about your are able to go any place you can see. While watchdogs gameplay is street level for the most part. There is alot more pop ins on watchdogs then ISS too.

Yetter3641d ago

a lot of qualifiers in this sentence

SniperControl3641d ago

From what i have seen from console videos so far, it's good, but it aint as good as Infamous.

Kurisu3641d ago

inFamous is bound to look better graphically as it was developed exclusively to cater for the PS4 hardware, whereas Watch Dogs is PC, PS3, 360, XONE, PS4 and Wii U (eventually).

Just play both and enjoy the games :)

How Does inFAMOUS Second Son Hold up 10 Years Later?

inFAMOUS Second Son was one of PS4's best exclusives, but does it hold up a decade later?

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM123d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck122d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati122d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos123d ago (Edited 123d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

shinoff2183153d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.
