The relationship of videogames to personal health is becoming a very hot topic right now in the mainstream news media, what with Wii Fit selling out at stores everywhere and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation handing out $200,000 grants in order to fund research into how gaming affects health. Video games are known to improve hand-eye coordination but can they help someone quit smoking or lose weight? Hot on the heels of Nintendo's 7974.0S smash success, "Wii Fit," game makers are introducing new titles with a healthy focus, such as French game publisher Ubisoft's "Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking" that hits on Nintendo DS in November.
Over 10 million smokers worldwide have turned to Allen Carr's Easyway books, clinics or DVD in order to stop smoking but now smokers wanting to quit can instead play 14 mini-games.
The games, designed by Ubisoft's (UBIP.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) Quebec studio and Allen Carr's team, focus on why people smoke rather than why they shouldn't.
hey man, my playstation helped me quit. <-------truth.
it also kept me away from drugs(and stop them)<---------also true
I hope thers more reasons like this that shows video games can be good. My mom always tells me video games are bad for your eyes. That's why I can't buy a psp. :(
Thanks for the advice but I don't do any of those things. I always play in the noon time with bright lighting and I rarely play over 30 minutes.
You just got off your drug addiction. Now you have another addiction to worry about.
Question is, how you gonna get off that one?
Ubisoft wants you to trade in your smokes for a stylus in its unconventional new game designed to help break the habit of cigarette smoking. Part of the publisher's casual 'Games for Everyone' line, Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking attempts to marry serious content with simple gameplay.
