Wolfenstein: The New Order PS4 vs Xbox One Screenshots Comparison, Minor Differences in Graphics?

Wolfenstein: The New Order runs at 1080p/60 FPS resolution on both PS4 and Xbox One. So is there any graphics/visuals details between the two versions?

In the first PS4 screenshot, the guy looks constipated, he has a red face.

In the X1 screenshot, he looks like he has just released the cause of the constipation. His face has a more natural skin tone.

X1 wins. No one likes playing games with constipated NPC's.

But in all seriousness, apart from the colour of the guys skin, they're identical. They pretty much aimed for absolute parity for this game.

PS4 fairs slightly better, but TBH, there is not much in it, swings and roundabouts.

Hardly a game that pushes the boundary of graphics.

Look at the detail on his cap, on XO you can alctually see the tiny stiches and edges. Same like AA this could totally be video quality problems so how about we just wait for real screens not some compressed and scaled up video crap.

i thought that too at first but then i realized the angles of the windows (where i noticed it at first) were more shallow on the xbox frame which would cause the alias crawl to be more present than at a slightly sharper angle on the ps4 version. i further figured that was the case because on the rest of the screens they more or less look the same. the color seems slightly oversaturated on the ps4 version in some screens but that could also come down to image compression. regardless they both look good imo.

it certainly is a pretty game. looks fun too. i really like the art direction.

If you need to look at a top left window to tell the difference in AA, it's probably not much to write home about. I guess performance will be the best comparison.

What these moron publishers/devs don't seem to realize is that by having parity between the versions and making claims such as "The two versions are identical", they are actually alienating the PS4 userbase. Which is incredibly stupid seeing as how the PS4 userbase is nearly 2 times bigger than the XB1 userbase, and that difference gets bigger each day.

I don't see how you can really make any comparison when it is obvious these are not identical shot by shot comparisons, they are each slightly different.

The reason his face probably appears a different color from what I see is because the scene is not the same and the shading is probably different at that moment as he leans in, you can tell in the PS4 image on that particular photo that it is a bit before the Xbox One image and the character movement has changed. You can tell because in the Xbox One photo of that shot, the planes in the background have moved a bit further than in the PS4 shot, That alone can change things, slight movement differences.

Then you look at all the other shots and it is basically the same thing, they are not close enough to each other for me to really tell. Never mind just gotta click view image.

Pretty poor comparison if you ask me but I know people will try to have a field day with this.

I really couldn't tell you what looks better based on these shots not being identical.

All I know is the both look like ass when you blow these images up, I know it is just the images themselves but that makes it even harder to compare them when they are such poor captures.

The xb1 screen looks like there is absolutely no shadows. Usually im with septic on this one (not noticing any difference), but everything is "well lit" in the Xbox One screen, making it appear somewhat less realistic.

NVM, i see what silvery has pointed out. It's obviously a screenshot from the same scene, just at different times (which is probably why the shadows are "off"). Wouldn't surprise me if the site that hosted the article took pictures with the intentions of a comparison, but after seeing that they were identical, they decided to switch it up to to "stir the pot." I feel guilty that i had given this website a click.

We have no idea how the X1 version looks until we get direct-captures of that version too, but no versions are being properly represented here, which is my point. You can;'t say one version looks sharper than the other if you aren't even using HD screenshots or direct-feed footage.

Hopefully it's a near locked 60fps. I know RAGE ran at an almost locked 60fps on last gen consoles, and that was using the same engine as this, so that would be pretty cool if they managed to do it here too.

Anyone should get the game for the console they feel comfortable with. Do you collect trophies or achievements? Do you like the DS4 or Xbox controller? Do you have more friends to party chat with on XB1 or PS4 (I like to chat while im gaming)? These are all things i'd consider before making the decision.

I'm so sorry that my comment wasn't clear.

What I meant to say is that since this is an FPS without multiplayer playing on the system that most of your friends play on isn't a factor. The next logical choice would be to choose the superior version of the game which will probably be the PS4 version due to the history of multiplats on it. However if you prefer the Xbox One controller for FPS and thats a good reason to get it on that(I just realized this so its new).

For shooters? Mouse hands down any day. I have a 360 controller for my PC that I use depending on the game. FPS games work so much better on mouse there is just no contest.

I don't mean that to flame either. Trust me, I've tried both and after using the mouse I cannot ever see going back. Even in 3rd person games honestly. The aiming is sluggish.

Mouse can be floaty or overly sensitive sometimes of course,tweaking the sensitivity usually alleviates that though.

Both look identical. Hopefully more games will run at 1080p and 60fps for both platforms. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg as surely within 2 years, I expect many games will run at that resoulution when developers get more comfortable with the hardware and new tools available at their disposal.

There are only slight differences, I wouldn't make an issue of this. The PS4 has different lighting compared to the X1. Everything looks a little brighter on the X1 version.

This seems to be the same as the 360 vs PS3 games, I always found the PS3 had better lighting than the 360.

i can definitely see the aliasing in the Xbox one version a little but the only real difference is the shadows. Xbox one has darker dark's which im actually against so PS4 version it is 4 me but it was close. i was gonna get it for XB1 since i never actually play it but i guess it'll just be reserved for exclusives for it right now.

the big question here is if these game makers can make 2 versions running 1080p 60 fps on both consoles , then why can't companies like Activision and Ubisoft .

The game looks amazing and fun, I'm about to pick up my copy after I work out. For the most part the game looks identical there aren't many differences at all, however the X1 version does have a slight edge in this game for sharpness. It's nothing to write home about at all of course...there is no reason to cancel a PS4 version pre-order and get the XB1 version..but it is worth noting that XB1 finally has a multiplat that looks better. Again, not a huge deal at all, but the details on the XB1 version just come out sharper and more defined sometimes, there are parts where the details in the guns, hands, etc look ever so slightly better on the X1 version, for whatever reason.

This won't kill PS4, this doesn't make XB1 undisputed king. I'm still on the side of these resolution debates (in this case it's really just visuals, not res), that the differences never really amount to much at all. What is impressive is the amount of 180's and excuses in the comments here by some. In the past PS4 has been easily declared the better looking version based on worse comparisons, and it was just supposed to be accepted as fact....yet here (and in other articles) where we have some of the best quality side by side comparrisons that have ever been on this site, and all the sudden excuses that were never allowed before are being used. "Oh well the shadows are different cause he's standing at a different angle..." Just let it go, X1 version looks better, but it's not a huge deal at all.

Even if it is due to a dev goal of "parity"...the game is in 1080p/60fps on both...what else do you want for parity? Was part of the "parity" goal to make the X1 version cleaner and sharper (shouldn't the PS4 version have had that MINOR MINOR MINOR edge if it can handle this easier)? Was PS4 held back from being 4k/120fps? Or you can look at it that "parity" is a real thing and a fact that will have to be dealt with this gen whether you like it or not? ...again, it's 1080p/60fps on both and looks great on both...any differences from there are EXTREMELY minor.

Side note: Just a theory as I am not a Dev of any sort and have no idea how to make games, but perhaps this is the benefit of the higher overall bandwidth on the XB1. When both running identically at 1080p/60fps, the higher bandwidth transfers of the X1 allow for more consistently clean and clear visuals with slightly less muddiness. Again I have no clue, maybe the dev or someone here that knows more can clear that up. I just know that one of the main goals of eSRAM was to allow for better movement of textures, maybe this is what we are seeing in action.

Amazing how much progress MS has made in their drivers and development tools. Since the XBox One was not going to be released until late 2014, MS was severely handicapped with the developer tools that it had on hand for release. MS is FINALLY starting to get the tools updated and into the developers hands. 1080P and 60FPS is a big jump for the XBox One with this kind of texture rendering. Glad to see it.

I go for a game that myself can have a good time playing and a game that has a lot of replay value to me.
