Why resolution will make a big difference in Watch Dogs

One of the factors many people overlooked was the fact that the game does run at a higher resolution of 900p on the PS4 as opposed to the 792p on Xbox One. Luckily for us, we happen to have a retail copy (non-US version) of the game to see just how good it looks. Without an Xbox One copy to compare with, it’s hard to make any judgments at this point, but its clear that the PS4 version looks crisp and there is little to no noticeable jaggies in the game itself. Thus far, Watch Dogs is on another level. Without divulging too much information, it would be safe to say that this is a game you wouldn’t want to miss. And at this point though, the PS4 version of Watch Dogs has a slight lead given its higher resolution.

Chaostar3649d ago

I want the best looking and performing game for my money whatever platform that may be. It's looking likely that this will be yet another multiplat that will run best on PS4, so that's where my money is going. Common sense really.

snipermk03649d ago

Great to see devs give some attention to the playstation platform this gen. They got little love during the PS3 era

Ghost_Nappa3649d ago

The ps3 was harder to develop for

snipermk03649d ago

Maybe so, but the devs were pretty lazy as well. Otherwise, how'd we have great games like Uncharted?

Webbyy3649d ago

"Without an Xbox One copy to compare with, it’s hard to make any judgments at this point"

Not trying to be a douche.. but with that said why does this article exist? O_o

Gazondaily3649d ago

@sniper

"Maybe so, but the devs were pretty lazy as well. Otherwise, how'd we have great games like Uncharted?"

You need to understand how game development works. Making a console exclusive game is different to making multiplatform games. There are a variety of factors to consider including time and money.

Just labeling developers as being 'lazy' is not only inaccurate, but disrespectful to their efforts too. They are in a business after all; they shouldn't have to be lumbered with comparatively difficult to program for consoles, at the detriment of their timelines and other platforms.

So Sony brought it upon themselves. Its not that they didn't get enough love last gen, it's that they didn't do themselves any favours.

They've changed that all now with an easy to develop for console. So you can't have your cake and eat it when praising them for that.

alexkoepp3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

It doesn't make any difference. I played the battlefield 4 campaign on my x360, my Xbox one, and my gaming PC, in that order. It was just as fun playing on the 360 at whatever resolution that was, as it was playing 1080p ultra settings on PC. In fact it was more fun playing he 360 version since it was the first time I played it.

BluP3649d ago

@ snipermk0

Have you ever programmed before? I wouldn't say the devs were lazy, it's the publishers trying to push out a game far before it's ready to be released. Blame the pubs, not the devs.

mikeslemonade3649d ago

It's important because the draw distance will be more clear when your exploring and trying to catch other hackers. So while you can see from a distance surely you won't even see it on the last gen versions on WiiU, 360, PS3. And as for X1 version you may see the character model but it will be less clear from a distance. This is why it's important.

KeeseToast3649d ago

@alexkoepp
Good to hear that from someone with a gaming PC, it's funny how you got so many disagrees like people know which version you had most fun with

" yet another multiplat that will run best on PS4"

You mean .."yet another multiplat that runs best on PC"

Fixed.

Ill be buying the PC version seeing as resolution is so important.

EDIT:After all..the PC version is the only one I can play at 1080P/60FPS. I want to play the version that looked like the E3 presentation. That is all.

GundalfDeGrej3649d ago

True that. All this talk about frame rate and resolution. If people care that much, buy a PC.

Gazondaily3649d ago

Don't know why you're getting so many disagrees. You're spot on.

slivery3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

No shit Sherlock!

I don't get you guys, I am a PC enthusiast myself but holy mother of god, why even mention PC's here? What I find super ironic, is so many PC users feel the need to make this statement in a console section, any person with an inclination of though knows a PC is more powerful than consoles, even the people who make the consoles will tell you this themselves.. So I don't know why you guys feels the need to prove otherwise.. Oddly enough you all don't even visit the PC section of this site either.

The PC section of this site is absolutely desolate but what is funny is you see so many PC users in console articles instead... Yea makes sense.

The way I look at it, chances are most these people don't even own a good PC because I surely am not here when I want to talk about PC gaming, this site is heavily console and handheld based even though yes its an all around gaming site.

I just don't understand the need to debate PC's in a console favored site. That is like some guy with a Ferrari making debates in a Toyota forum or something, its just pointless. We get it, PC is faster, whoopty do, people don't buy consoles because they are the most powerful things in the world.

They buy them because they are affordable and less of a hassle than a PC is while still offering a pretty damn good gaming experience close to that seen on "most" PC's (not the best PC's but most)

So when someone is comparing multiplats in a console section, clearly comparing two consoles, why do you feel the need to get so defensive having to bring up PC?

Sokol3649d ago

Why are you bringing up PC for when you know fully well it's not an article about PC?

We all know PC has the best visuals, we also know that those visuals don't come at 399$ price, right? And don't even try to dispute that fact, I have a decent gaming PC and I know the prices and components nessecary to make Watch Dogs look on pair with the current generation consoles.

In the end of the day, enjoy the experience on your PC and be happy you can afford it.

Malphite3649d ago

PC version for me as well. I have my PS4 mainly for exclusives and local multiplayer games.

If you can choose between X1 and PS4 version, PS4 is clearly the way to go. 792p is a joke in this day and age. I think both the X1 and PS4 versions could run at a higher resolution if it wasn't a cross gen game. I really hope that publishers stop holding back games because of last gen ports asap.

Chaostar3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

Oh geez I accidentally baited the PC elitists. I should have said 'console multiplat' to avoid upsetting people, apologies.

fiveby93649d ago

True that if performance is the only consideration then PC surely has it. However in the context of cost of ownership it is not an even playing field for the money. Console cost far less. From a cost perspective PS4 performance is fantastic. That is the point IMO.

gamernova3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

Lol @ all the people questioning why PC gamers are commenting. Such insecurities. We are gamers too and like other gamers, we like to present facts and also our opinions. If this was on a section like a console exclusive game then PC gamers being here wouldn't make much sense but this game is to be released on PC, therefore like all other gamers, we have the right to our opinion. Specs only matter when it's the ps4 vs xbox. When PC gamers get it too they want us to shut up lol

ZodTheRipper3649d ago

My PC has a GTX780 and a i4770k and even I think that I can't play Watch Dogs with ultra settings in 1080p/60fps. And this PC cost me 3,5x as much as my PS4.
Fact is hat you'll get the most value out of your money on PS4 ...of course PC will always have the superior version, it's unnecessaty to point this out.

bumnut3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

^^^^^^ You will max watch dogs and most games for years.

As for better value....... short term yes, long term no chance.

GordonKnight3649d ago

1080P/60FPS is nice, but I wouldn't buy a PC for it.

Originally I wanted to purchase Watch Dogs for My Wii U, but then it was delayed. So I just pre-ordered it for PS4. Who knows I might still get it for the Wii U in the end.

GundalfDeGrej3649d ago

"Why even mention PC?"

Why wouldn't people mention PC? The title of the article is clearly "Why resolution will make a big difference in Watch Dogs". People go crazy these days if a game isn't 1080p 60 fps yet no one seems to care enough to get the only system that can run games at that res and fps.

Maybe people should stop calling developers "lazy" for not "optimizing" their games and instead blame themselves for not being willing to spend the cash needed to get what they want.

GodGinrai3649d ago

I brought up the PC because going by the OPs logic (and many a N4G, poster) Resolution is a big deal these days.

You know what is REALLY funny to me? Before this announcement people were so sure the PS4 version was 1080p, citing it as a reason to get the PS4 version over the X1...But now that it has come to light that the PC version is the only one doing 1080P, everybody wants to brush it under the rug... Dont think I aint noticed, N4G.

Im sticking by my guns though, If resolution is so important to this game then, the PC is the only version worth my money.

Mr Tretton3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

This article is labeled PC as well, folks. If people want to bring PC into this, they can.

AgentSmithPS43648d ago

ty captain obvious...

You mean .."yet another multiplat that runs best on a more expensive, more optimized, more (etc) pc than the average person has."

" It's looking likely that this will be yet another multiplat that will run best on PS4".

Err, no.

PC is the best version of the game, confirmed by the devs multiple times, with advanced lighting, depth of field and effects. 1080p, 60 FPS.

PS4 is 900p, 30 FPS. Xbox One is 720p, 30 FPS.

And I fully plan to play this on PC using my PS4 controller, as I prefer open-world games played that way.

MasterCornholio3649d ago

When did they reduce the Xbox Ones resolution?

I thought it was something like 796P.

PS4isTHEkneesOFbees3647d ago

Lmao, I love retards disagreeing with a fact..

Magicite3649d ago

I would also choose PS4 if I wouldn't own a gaming capable PC.

MelvinTheGreat3649d ago

If you want the best PC is the only way.

PaperMan3649d ago

I agree graphics might be better to buy in some cases. But I would consider other things as long as they play the same. For a multiplayer game I would choose the version which I'll enjoy it more with friends. Also which version will get better or more DLC. If there's not a huge difference in looks then it wouldn't bother me to much.

GodGinrai3649d ago

"For a multiplayer game I would choose the version which I'll enjoy it more with friends"

If I was keen on MP, then I would buy it for my X1. But I just want to play in SP. I dont even want people "invading/hacking" in my game world. That is my reason for getting it on PC. I just want the best SP experience.

PS4isTHEkneesOFbees3649d ago

I want the best looking and performing game for my money whatever platform that may be."

Then I guess you're buying it on the PC then instead of the inferior experience on the PS4...

jazmac3649d ago

Then PC should be your platform of choice

classic193649d ago

ps3, ppl. reality is that x1&ps4 still have no games. this why ppl wait a year or 2 to upgrade. i need ten good games to take the plum, yes plum. no games no brains, co-sher.

Harmy6663649d ago

This should read:

"I want the best looking and performing game for my money whatever platform that may be. It's looking likely that this will be yet another multiplat that will run best on PC, so that's where my money is going. Common sense really."

Azzanation3649d ago

You want the best experience then get it on PC. Wouldnt even cost you that much to upgrade.

beatled3649d ago

you mean pc.... it will run best and perform best on pc

and be cheaper

and support higher res in the future so one day you can play it in 8k

and it will support 3d

and it will support WAY higher textures, anti aliasing, shadows, draw distance

basically the xbox1 and ps4 versions are near identical compared the giant valley of disparity between the low end ps4/xbox1 versions and the beautifully rendered pc version

chinlu3648d ago

It would be common sense to get it on pc.

tee_bag2423648d ago (Edited 3648d ago )

Common sense would tell you PC is a platform too yes ?
If you have a gaming PC and want the best performance.. sorry to tell you that's where the party's at.

@ beatled. You're forgetting PhysX too.

If you have both systems go with PS4. No reason not to. Otherwise get it for whatever you got.

Software_Lover3649d ago

Multiplayer. Get it where you have the most fun at or where your friends are playing it.

Flutterby3649d ago

Well considering how many ps4s are out there compared to xbone it would probably still be ps4.

Eonjay3649d ago

Thats true. You may also consider the extra content that comes with the PS4 version. If those things doen't matter to you and you have more friends on Xbox and multiplayer is your focus then go with Xbox.

pandaboy3649d ago

your friends should be playing it on ps4 if they have any sense.

MasterCornholio3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

Pretty much agree.

For multiplayer play where all your friends are and if you dont have friends then play where the most people are (which would be the PS4 due to its larger userbase)

@Eonjay

The extra content is a nice bonus.

all my friends play on xbox so ill be picking up the xbox version. it looks really good to from what I've seen

No_Limit3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

Same, I switched my pre orders from the PS4 version to XB1 because I have more buds on Live and I didn't renew my PS4 subscription. I can't justify having 2 subscription because most PS4 exclusive are single player only and most XB1 exclusives have multiplayer function. Xb1 for multiplayer games like Destiny and PS4 for single player focus games like Assassin's Creed Unity is the way to go for me.

marlinfan103649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

my bad i shouldn't have said I'm getting it for xbox, i know thats automatic down votes lol

@no limit

i just picked up the ps4 about 2 weeks ago and plan on doing the same thing. i bought the subscription but I'm thinking I'm gonna play most MP games on xbox. especially since for some reason the wifis a lot weaker on the ps4. i have them right next to each other and my xbox runs at 20-25 mbps while the ps4s 5-10.

NYC_Gamer3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

Why aren't there more article asking the question about if WD will be fun in terms of gameplay and story?a pretty looking game means nothing if the game is lackluster everywhere else.

Eonjay3649d ago

Because of embargoes... we can't really know what any game is anymore until the day of release.

n4rc3649d ago

Watch Dogs Deserves A Remake, More Than Ever

With the world of information and technology, privacy and security growing every day, Watch Dogs deserves another chance in the spotlight, now more than ever.

RaidenBlack1022d ago

The only Ubi title that deserves a faithful remake right now is Splinter Cell 1.
All 2014+ Ubi titles are just underwhelming. Especially ones from 2016+ are just cancer.

LucasRuinedChildhood1022d ago (Edited 1022d ago )

Seriously, are we so far removed from Ubisoft actually making good games that people now praise Watch_Dogs in retrospect?

"Watch_Dogs has remained one of my favourite games of the last ten years." Jesus Christ.

HankHill1022d ago

I remember being so disappointed in Watch Dogs when I played it at release. It was alright, but I think I fell for the hype and I needed a game to play on my new PS4.

obidanshinobi1022d ago

This is what happens when mediocrity gets praised as good.
Standards are slipping across the whole entertainment industry.
What was once considering rubbish is now considered as OK, what once was OK is now being praised as good etc etc.

LamerTamer1021d ago

Everyone has their own likes. I liked it a lot myself. I played through it twice and liked the car chases and the open world with fairly decent environments and missions. It suffered from the whole downgrade thing where they showed graphics that weren't actually there. No game will appeal to everyone but it was still ambitious for it's time.

assassin's creed 1 should get a remake.

ExBee1022d ago

For certain! AC1 was brilliant at the time but with new graphics and gameplay it would be amazing! Do you prefer old combat or new though?

RaidenBlack1022d ago

I'd say a reimagining of AC1.
I direct AC1 remake would be a bad idea. It'll need better story pacing and significant better world building.

BlaqMagiq11021d ago

Old. Let it play like how it did with AC2-Syndicate style gameplay but refine the setting and story.

Profchaos1022d ago

It would need a lot changed for it to be enjoyable again as even back in 2007 on launch we were all complaining about it's repetitive gameplay go here perform one of three side quests repeat then assassination now do it over and over until a big battle with a unforgiving checkpoint system.

BlaqMagiq11021d ago

Absolutely. It needs it. The only AC I truly didn't enjoy.

chicken_in_the_corn1021d ago

I'd prefer it didn't. Ubisoft would make it so bloated, it wouldn't be anywhere near the original

smolinsk1022d ago (Edited 1022d ago )

Absolutely, this watch dogs legion was terrible boring.

Profchaos1022d ago (Edited 1022d ago )

As a fan of the franchise legion was garbage and I regretted my purchase for the first time in the franchise the entire thing felt like an experiment in NPC behaviour and released without the writers input on what makes a good story.

I don't think I'm alone in that feeling though as wrench and Aiden are brought back and the campaign was rewritten to fit them.

I am tempted to buy the season pass to play it again with Aiden but fool me twice shame on me I'm waiting for a deep sale

camel_toad1022d ago

Agreed. Despite the annoying hipness of the characters in part 2 I thought it was a really fun game. I was extremely disappointed and surprised at how many steps back they took with Legion. You'd think it was made by an entirely different team. Or was it?

It was just so devoid of fun.

LamerTamer1021d ago

Honestly one of my biggest annoyances with Legion is that they took out the camera views for the driving. I mean the behind the car view that they stuck us with is near unplayable. I always used a first person driving view. After two releases why did they take OUT features? I don't get it.

TheSinsibleOne1022d ago

The fist watchdog game was the best by far
After that they weren't weird and annoying with that hipster stuff. Aiden was a badass.

LamerTamer1021d ago

I thought so at first too. I got used to it and it ended up being good after some play time. I just had to give it a chance.

Inside the Driver game that died so that Watch Dogs could live

From VG247: "When cars slide, they leave tyre marks. In a game like Driver, they’re an aesthetic touch, part of the inherent cool of a handbrake turn. But those dark shadows in the road also tell a story. From tyre marks, you can determine the speed of a vehicle, when it started to skid, and its ultimate direction of travel – long after the car itself has vanished into the distance."

vallencer1087d ago

Why did they stop making some of the best games ever? Driver was one of them.

Gameseeker_Frampt1086d ago

Assassins Creed 2 showed Ubisoft how to make money and Far Cry 2 showed them that gamers don't like complex ideas. Now Ubisoft just turns out games that are just variations of the same thing.

WeAreLegion1086d ago

Best driving mechanics ever made. Nothing has come close.

Gardenia1086d ago

A story driven game with pure driving gameplay. I'd love to see a new Driver game or a remake of the first one.

ApocalypseShadow1086d ago

Yes. This one. A definite remake of the first without adding any ridiculous fluff. The first game had great physics and sound for its time. The start of the car in the beginning cinema I watched constantly. My father and uncles were big muscle and classic car freaks. Only thing crazy about the game was the relentless cops in the last level. Insane the way those police cars were and launched at you.

Bleemcast made it look better just like PC emulators. But would definitely take a remake.
