So they expect that a seventh part of the userbase that surely the Wii U will have by the time will buy the game? Great challenge and I don't think they are going to make it.

Geobros3650d ago

I agree. Dynasty warriors is a series selling only in Japan and rarely more than 1 milion copies. I think, it will be hard for Hyrule warriors to catch this goal...

blackblades3649d ago

Lol he said dynasty warriors is a series selling only in japan. Dw7 sold over a million and about half those sales came from the west.

ritsuka6663649d ago

I'd say that it's possible, at least lifetime.

iamnsuperman3649d ago

But you and many others will forget about this game once the new Zelda is released (which is being rumoured to release not so long after).

3-4-53649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

I can't stand the gameplay style of Dynasty Warriors, but I'm glad it's made for all of you who do like it.

* To me it's probably the most mindless boring game outside of a ios app "game".

I'll just run around and SPAM the attack button and kill thousands of identical enemies who are easy to kill...

^ It makes no sense, why not just scale the enemies back? It's = to that gimmicky flashy colors BS japan does. ( not to be confused with beautiful colors)

videgamenext13649d ago

You don't Think a zelda game coming out after mario kart 8 is going to sell a million copies in it's lifetime ?let alone 1st 6 months ? Wow

admiralvic3649d ago

"You don't Think a zelda game coming out after mario kart 8 is going to sell a million copies in it's lifetime "

Dynasty Warriors Zelda =/= The Legend of Zelda.

When push comes to shove, DW Zelda is still a Dynasty Warriors game first and a Zelda game second. Sure, having a larger install base makes it easier, but don't think a reskinned game with Zelda enemies guarantees 1 million sales in under 6 months like you seem to believe. Especially since I always thought people enjoyed Zelda for the exploring / puzzles / storytelling, not the combat, which will no doubt be the main attraction to DW Zelda.

eworthington03649d ago

@admiralvic
The last few have had some amazing combat variety in them. Especially twilight princess.
But I agree. I mostly buy into it for exploring story and puzzles. Also the always quirky zelda humor.

It could work. While Dynasty Warriors has a track-record for only doing well in JP; just remember people - the first thing that others are going to be realize is the big "ZELDA" logo, and Link on the cover.

That's what you called brand-power. That's why Wind Waker HD sold over 1mil units.

Nereo3649d ago

How dare you,Wind Waker is an excellent game so sales are a reflection of happiness and not brand recognition.

AKR3649d ago (Edited 3649d ago )

Considering I didn't see a single TV ad for it; I think it's great it actually made 1mil without any real advertising. That's what you call brand power.

admiralvic3649d ago

Don't forget that bundles are usually counted towards sales, so don't be surprised if many people adopted the Wii U / simply bought it for the console design. It was also arguably the best bundle out at the time, so these two factors helped a lot.

"Considering I didn't see a single TV ad for it"

PLEASE! Understand how Nintendo works before you jump to conclusions. Nintendo mainly markets towards kids, so you're probably not going to see Wind Waker HD / Animal Crossing / Pokemon commercials during programs you like. However, if you flip on Nick / Cartoon Network during peak hours* you'll see commercials for Nintendo games. This is simply how demographics works, so don't think that just because Nintendo isn't marketing to you, they aren't marketing at all.

"without any real advertising."

There were commercials, I believe during a Nintendo direct they announced the collectors edition (this also helped sales, as collectors would buy the game just for the figure) with the special edition console, it was the feature bundle in many papers for that week / a little while, I recall several physical advertisements to draw attention to the bundle, the game itself has a foil cover (makes it stand out a LOT) and other much smaller things.

* During Adventure Time (especially a new episode) or another popular series and even more so during a new episode.

AKR3649d ago

I watch Nick, Disney and CN more than any other channel (only 15, my friend - not 55) - And I don't recall seeing a TV ad for the Wind Waker HD. In terms of advertising; I also didn't see any posters or big promotionals like some of their other first-party releases.

HexxedAvenger3649d ago

If they make it worth buying, then I don't see a reason why it won't reach a mil.

Nioh games definitely up there at the top alongside Ninja Gaiden BLK.

LoveSpuds484d ago

There is a decent fan base for the Nioh games, but still think they are criminally overlooked and under appreciated.

I just bought the PS5 collection to replay them again with all their DLC, a sweet collection for my games shelf for sure.

Yea, those gardens haven't been plowed in over 10 years now though. Imagine if they cultivated it, let it grow again.

Starman69484d ago

Amazing what ya can do with a samurai sword lol 🤣

tehpees3484d ago

The honourable mention though.

TheSenorCheese484d ago

originally it wasn't going to be included because of their take on Samus' character. But the gameplay's actually not bad.

Vits483d ago

Honestly, I don't know if we can even blame them for that take. Nintendo's Sakamoto was credited as the writer and from what we learned later with the Retro Studios interviews for the Prime series, Nintendo apparently never saw Samus as this stoic badass that most of the west imagined her as. Going as far as describing her as "motherly".

shinoff2183484d ago

Ninja Gaiden was dope but I don't really care for alot of their games.

The cool thing about the PS2 chainsaw display was that there was a (kind-of) hidden compartment at the back which was the exact size to hold the PS2 steelbook.

darthv721171d ago

I have that controller but sadly I lost the main cord. And its not something that was anything close to being standard or easy to find.

PrimeVinister1170d ago

One of my friends had it back in the day and I had wondered alout why it had a detachable cord that you could lose.

My friend then said it was so they could manufacture the one unit and then fire its appropriate cord in the appropriate box.

But then we realised each version has a different socket on the unit itself - so there was zero point in it except for collectors to lose the cable.

You know the designers are on r/, gamecollecting, laughing away.

jamesclark19911170d ago

I kept my cord in the "hidden" little brown drawer on the base of the unit.
