It's probably not out of line to say that the Ninja Gaiden series, as gamers know it now on the Xbox platform, is kind of light on story. Even if you're the type to reflexively skip cut-scenes by mashing the Start button every time the screen goes black -- your hands and teeth clenched from having to repeat the last boss battle 38 times -- the plot beneath the games' smooth action isn't the most enthralling or easiest-to-follow stuff in the gaming world.
Relentless action and difficulty are understandable when you have Tecmo's Team Ninja, where head designer Tomonobu Itagaki wants to create the best action game ever made, but it's also odd when you consider that the main reason for Ninja Gaiden's worldwide popularity is that the now 20-year-old NES trilogy did emphasize story, arguably pioneering the use of cinematic-style cut-scenes in Japanese console games, and it even got the young gamers playing those games to actually care about what happened...until their 38th attempt to get past a gauntlet of hyperintelligent falcons.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 debuted in 2009; ahead of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty's launch, it's time to look back at one of Tecmo Koei's best titles.
Two of Tecmo's classic series, Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, are getting new games with a possible reboot of both series.
Why do we need a remake of Dead or Alive, instead of a new installment in the series ?
Fighting games are too shallow, they were good at first.. up til around Tekken 3 and Soul Calibur on Dreamcast, because they had a ton of extra modes and challenges and stuff. Everything after is basically the same, or with even less content.
A new Ninja Gaiden game could be outsourced to another developer, but only if it's one that fits the Ninja Gaiden pedigree.
Eh, beside team ninja, its platinum games and both could do good but also bad going by there history. Dmc5 devs is another or a Namco team.
I hold the original ninja Gaiden series very dear still. I play them atleast 1 every 2 months probably. They, along with Zelda, super mario bros, metroid, kid icarus, double dragon, donkey kong, galaga, pacman & rygar are among the very best games I've ever played.
never really like ninja gaidan control and camera suked.
ps3 was the best because of the controls
It reminds me of your typical hard Japanese horror ero guro. Defintely didn't find it that hard to follow and I never once skipped a cutscene in the 10+ playthroughs of NG/Black/Sigma.
Where Ryu's father takes on that mysterious ninja is still a classic. One of the greatest and simplest openings EVER. The original game was amazing... I played that game forever, beat it only once, and I still wince whenever I see a digital bird swooping my way.
