IGN: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Review (360)

IGN writes: "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars first launched on the PC back in October of 2007 to solid critical reviews and fan support. Now it's time for the id Software franchise to come home to Xbox 360 and PS3, nearly eight months since first landing on store shelves. While multiplayer FPS fans are undoubtedly hoping for an extra coat of paint and added features to what will hopefully be a solid addition to the stable of online shooters, what they'll actually find is far less exciting."

Than the PlayStation 3 version, no surprise there. ;)

Greysturm5813d ago

are always better on 360 shame you cant say the same of good titles.

Panthers5813d ago

Exactly. Crappy devs make crappy ports.

g3nkie5813d ago

Ya, and 6,1 is something to brag about....

Ri0tSquad5813d ago (Edited 5813d ago )

you brag about mediocre games being better on your console. Nice one buddy, keep up the good work, Microsoft loves you. Have fun with this game.

Especially after seeing the gameplay videos. This game has last gen written all over it. Games are just way to expensive for us to be dishing out 60 dollars for "passable" or "mediocre" last gen games.

bitter ps3 fans ..

PS3 pay more..get less :)

LenHart5813d ago

Triple blow for XFIXME --LP colonies /NG2 and Quake wars

Evil Rant Monkey5813d ago

Honestly, I just bought a PS3 about 3 hours ago and I'm already dissapointed. :(

raddbj035813d ago

yes, mgs4 is making me bitter. very bitter. seriously it would be one thing if the 360 game was great and the ps3 version was far less, maybe like what happened with orange box, but nobody has anything to be bitter about here.

Evil Rant Monkey5813d ago (Edited 5813d ago )

<I bought Unreal III along with the system. Wow talk about Unreal Lag and Unreal Pop In Textures. No in game XMB really sucks. And I really thought I was going to be blown away by superior graphics. I could have fed a lot of hungry children with the money i just spent.)

Really just waiting for MGS4 and Socom though.

steck675813d ago

It's better than pay less and get RROD.

pimpstation5813d ago

UT3 is worthless. Throw it in the trash and check out Uncharted/Resistance/GTA.

There is a trend for crappy games being better on 360 and AAA games being better on PS3, as is the case with Burnout, GTA4, Call of Duty 4, Devil May Cry 4, etcetera. So yeah, more games look better on 360, because most games are crap anyway.

iceice1235813d ago (Edited 5813d ago )

Burnout: paradise : http://www.metacritic.com/s...

GTA4: http://www.metacritic.com/s...

CoD4: http://www.metacritic.com/s...

DMC4: http://www.metacritic.com/s...

All have the same ratings except the 360 version of burnout being 1 point higher than the PS3 version. So much for PS3 being better, lemming. Games are always better on the 360, look better, play better (smoother framerate) and have achievements. That and Xbox Live isn't a joke like PSN. In the end the 360 always comes out on top.

Don't call me a dumbas you bubble boosting twat. If the PS3 versions were superior the reviews would reflect that, regardless of how many.

Ri0tSquad5813d ago (Edited 5813d ago )

What's the difference between Burnout Paradise on Xbox Live and PSN? More mics? Big whoop. The only difference is that I need money for Xbox Live. PS3 Burnout will have custom soundtracks, has in-game messaging, in-game invites, and no lag. It doesn't cost me sh!t to play online. I get the same experience. Yeah, so much for that.

Rocko5813d ago

Even sh*tty games are better on 360. Pepperoni-station can't catch a break.

Xlll5813d ago

"sh*tty games are better on 360."

Well that seems to be the only thing you xbot kids are getting. NG2 - Flop - 20fps LOL!
LP = flopped
quake = flopped

i see a trend on the 3fixme here.

Rocko5813d ago

Both managed to suck harder on delaystation, and we even we get the superior Colonies Edition. LMAO f**kin retard.

Xlll5813d ago

I was talking about the CE version retard. It failed also.
http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-...
See that. Fail. NG2- fail. 360 Fail. Your post - fail. You at life - fail. Put down the cake and do some research before you try to post comments with people that know what they are talking about and aren't pulling sh!t out of there a$$ like you , Pog, and herpes....Crab over there.

Rocko5813d ago (Edited 5813d ago )

81 for 360
http://www.gamerankings.com...

69 for delaystation
http://www.gamerankings.com...

You've been raped, again. Such a f**king embarrassment.

Xlll5813d ago

LOL very nice try but there is no Colonies ED for PS3. And the 360 LP got a meta score of 79 based off of 76 reviews With the PS3 version only having been reviewed 23 times. Using a User review based site for your scores is a pretty lame attempt. Whats next are you going to use info from Xboxkings.com to prove a point? Oh wait yeah your out of bubbles. What a shame.

360 fanboy fails again.

bootsielon5812d ago (Edited 5812d ago )

Next time use Gamestats for a better comparison instead of using Gamespot's metacritic; that site accurately measures Halo 3 as an 8.9, not the failure of metacritic that gives it a 9.4; it puts the COD4 version of PS3 higher, and the same for DMC4, Burnout and GTA4, since it takes into account what actual gamers think, not just the press. Those "tied" scores are actually rounded up, but they are accurately ordered.

And when I said better, I did not mean "better scores", I meant better graphics, as it happens on DMC4, GTA4, Burnout, Oblivion, etcetera. In the end AAA games are becoming better on PS3, and you may have achievements, but that feature won't be exclusive for long. Read the reviews to see how those "tied scores" are not so tied, Lemming.

And by the way, do not pay attention to "Rocko", he is a racist piece of sh1t, and an angst filled teenager. Just look at his vocabulary: "f**king embarrasment!" and "raped LMAO". Wow, uttering the words "f**k" and "rape" surely makes you feel like almost an adult, doesn't it? Too bad "LMAO" reveals your true age, Panzerfaust. Did daddy rape you when you were little, or why are you obsessed with rape anyway? And why do you keep hiding by changing nicknames? Racism stopped being cool after your idols killed dozens of millions of people.

This guy used to be nicknamed Panzerfaust14, but when I uncovered his agenda by revealing how Panzerfaust, which is literally "tank" in german, is the name or a White Power record label, not to mention that "14" makes reference to the 14 words that white supremacists utter at their reunions and most websites, so after that he called me a "n*gger loving jew", and changed his nickname to Agent 47. Then I uncovered him again so I guess he changed his name to Rocko. What is next, anyway?

Quake Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes, "Alongside the Wolfenstein and DOOM franchises, there are the Quake games. Known for fast-paced and insane multiplayer deathmatch action, there was a time Quake was best known for its single-player design.

That all changed as time passed (i.e., after Quake 3 Arena). Multiplayer deathmatches were never the same.

As other FPS games leaned more into improved narrative and storytelling, id Software delivered a genre-defining multiplayer experience.

Quake 3, and the iterations, will always be one of the best multiplayer series releases.
As far as campaigns, I think 1 and 4 are great, but that 2 was garbage.

Quake Champions was a joke on and didn't capitalize on much of anything that made the series great.

The History of Quake | Mad Overdose

MadOverdose.com writes: Quake. A name synonymous with gamers and truly an important part of gaming history that alongside Unreal Tournament, helped develop competitive online multiplayer into the juggernaut that we know it as today. Of course, online gaming has grown substantially since the games original release and now spans a multitude of different genres. But this article is just going to focus on the series that bought it to the mainstream audience. Developed by id Software and released June 22nd 1996, Quake would spawn a legacy of games that would forever change the way we think about online gaming. But where is it now?

Quake......2 took up LOADS of my time when i was a teenager, it was the first online game i played, the memories

Kleptic4827d ago

I started online gaming with Doom 2 back in like late 94 or whatever it was...My parents had just bought a Gateway 2000 486 desktop around that time, and I got it for Christmas...a few friends in town also got it, and we'd play 1 on 1 dial up for literally 8 hours at a time over christmas break...

that same computer was a terd at running Quake 1...I had it, but it was frustrating as it would chug so hard that even as a kid i couldn't play it much...My parents upgraded to a Dell something or other in 97 just a few months before Quake II released...and i was set...it had a Nvidia Riva 128 gpu (this was back when Voodoo cards ruled the planet) and was my first experience with accelerated PC graphics...but I later found out that the Riva 128 did not yet support OpenGL...and I was stuck playing Quake II for nearly a full year on software rendering...and was pissed haha...

but eventually a driver was released, and there was no looking back...I can't say I liked Quake II more than the Romero based shooters before, especially atmosphere wise (I wanted hell back)...but playing Quake II on dial up through kali.net was some of the absolute most fun I had ever had...I've been a shooter fan ever since...

I love reading articles like this...reminds me of the first games i played, and why I love this hobby so much...I think I am very lucky age wise, that I grew up in the perfect window of when gaming really got its legs...

Picnic4827d ago (Edited 4827d ago )

'Believe it or not, Quake was originally conceived as an RPG, focusing on melee combat and set in the medieval ages'

Yes I can completely imagine that. I can't remember the first 2 games too well but Quake 3 definitely has a medieval feel with its huge open symmetrical courts leading off to maze-like smaller passages and antechambers. One level features twin moats in to a small castle. There's at least one very futuristic level but the game definitely appears inspired by medieval times as well which, I feel , adds to its mysteriously brutal atmosphere.

Kleptic4827d ago

I got this book with Doom 2 for christmas the year it released...I wish I could find it, I still have it somewhere packed up...

http://www.valorebooks.com/...

The last 30 pages or so are a huge interview with Romero and Carmack about Quake's development...this was back before the internet was really anything yet...they don't usually put such in depth exclusive interviews in strategy guides anymore...but either way, they talk about its 'rpg' nature and where the title was going, all before it was changed into a shooter overall...and its awesome...

To me Oblivion turned into almost exactly what iD was talking about with Quake...Quake was going to be frist person, but almost all hand to hand combat with 'spells and magic' available eventually...and that you would literally have to cut an enemy apart in order to kill them, not just shoot them with a big gun...If you ever find this book, or get a way to read that interview, do it...and play a few hours of Oblivion, its insane how many things Oblivion does that Carmack and Romero spoke of 10 years before...

Relientk774827d ago (Edited 4827d ago )

Quake 2 is an awesome game

Mista T4827d ago

I wish iD would make a true Quake game. If successful, it could become a multiplayer king this gen

kramun4827d ago

The first Quake set the bar as far as fps games could go at the time. And the shambler was scary as f**k.

meetajhu4827d ago (Edited 4827d ago )

It also set the bar for 3d graphics and it was the first game to support gpu(graphics card) and introduced OpenGL. Infact it was the first true 3d game with 3d world. Can't wait for RAge
