First PS4 Exclusive JRPG Omega Quintet Officially Announced, Coming in September

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu is already in the hands of the first Japanese readers, and in its pages include the official announcement of *ω*Quintet (Omega Quintet). The title will be a “Idol RPG” and will be released by Compile Heart under the Galapagos brand on September 18th (in Japan of course) exclusively for PS4.

Of all the Japanese developers out there it is really surprising that it is Compile Heart that will be the ones who will release the 1st PS4 JRPG.

Compile Heart do a lot of very niche Japanese centric games that for some reason 'offend' western journalist with their sexual nature of characters,

I for one love what they do & I'm interested on what they can do on next gen hardware.

Its not surprising as it wont be released in the west anytime soon if at all.

Its good news to see them start. Now we can begin our campaign to get the game in 72017 after it already has 2 sequels. Actually, I am hoping the tales and ni no kuni's success are enough to warrant some quicker releases.

Probably not soon, but NISA has been good about getting compile heart games localized, so there's still hope. An idol-RPG isn't likely to set the fires burning for other JRPG's though.

There's also the possibility that the Korean version will have english subtitles, so the importers can get it that way.

Seriously, I think rainslacker is on point here. It's good to have an exclusive JRPG announced, but the demand for this particular game won't be high in the West. Best anyone should hope for is the English subs.

This might normally be a niche game in the Western market, but in this day of digital downloads there is no need to wait for a fully localised version, the developers should just include subtitles and put it up on the PSN store. At least that way it will be able to sell some copies without the risk associated with producing disc copies.

I don't see how JRPG is so popular still. Even Square-Enix realizes it's time to bring it to a more action based combat mechanic. I'm not sure FFXV will be any good or if the realtime combat will be fun and work well with enemy AI 'n such to where it actually looks like a great battle how they can make it seem in turn-based. If they can get it right though, it can definitely be a turning point for other JRPG devs to acknowledge and follow. I can't help but feel that all these JRPG devs now just stick to JRPG cuz it's easier, they don't have to worry about AI and free movement in battles with more animations for regular strikes and combos and such. That's why I'm watching out for FFXV and hoping they don't screw it all up.

Don't mind the disagrees. Some people have so little vision they can't fathom any ideas they aren't used to. They won't realize how stale ff-type turn based combat has gotten until their favorite console or franchise gets over this turn-based fetish.

Personally, I think it's barely a step above playing with dice on a table. This can of course be fun, and I'm not dissing tabletop or pen and paper rpgs, but usually when I play a video game, I'm looking for something that can only be done in a video game form.

Real-time combat is one of the main reason Secret of Mana and Legend of Zelda still stand out in my mind even after decades of time, and scores of 'me too' jrpgs.

FFX HD sold more than FFXIII LR, people seem to prefer the "stale" turn based gameplay more this live action snuff. ;)

@kingdom18 yeah, because sales are the only indicator of quality. Call of Duty's consistent sales reflect how it's chock full of fresh and new ideas.

I'm sure this game will have its fans, but after reading up on it I have to say that it just reminds me why I don't play many JRPGs anymore. Definitely doesn't appeal to my tastes, but the more games the merrier, I guess.

JRPGs were appealing when I was 9 years old playing Playstation. Those were the golden years. I think the genre was pretty much dead after the PS4 era. They just aren't that fun anymore and character development/story are often very weak.
