The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu is already in the hands of the first Japanese readers, and in its pages include the official announcement of *ω*Quintet (Omega Quintet). The title will be a “Idol RPG” and will be released by Compile Heart under the Galapagos brand on September 18th (in Japan of course) exclusively for PS4.

Of all the Japanese developers out there it is really surprising that it is Compile Heart that will be the ones who will release the 1st PS4 JRPG.

Compile Heart do a lot of very niche Japanese centric games that for some reason 'offend' western journalist with their sexual nature of characters,

I for one love what they do & I'm interested on what they can do on next gen hardware.

joab7773680d ago

Its not surprising as it wont be released in the west anytime soon if at all.

Its good news to see them start. Now we can begin our campaign to get the game in 72017 after it already has 2 sequels. Actually, I am hoping the tales and ni no kuni's success are enough to warrant some quicker releases.

Probably not soon, but NISA has been good about getting compile heart games localized, so there's still hope. An idol-RPG isn't likely to set the fires burning for other JRPG's though.

There's also the possibility that the Korean version will have english subtitles, so the importers can get it that way.

English Subtitles Please!

@ sonypsnow

You mean "prease".

Seriously, I think rainslacker is on point here. It's good to have an exclusive JRPG announced, but the demand for this particular game won't be high in the West. Best anyone should hope for is the English subs.

Thantalas3680d ago

This might normally be a niche game in the Western market, but in this day of digital downloads there is no need to wait for a fully localised version, the developers should just include subtitles and put it up on the PSN store. At least that way it will be able to sell some copies without the risk associated with producing disc copies.

I had suggested a similar process to PS Blog years ago for the PS3 suggestion box.

It got tons of thumbs up, but don't think anything came of it.

rainslacker3680d ago

Didn't Atlus do something like that with the last Atelier game? Not bother to localize the whole thing or something.

Clown_Syndr0me3680d ago

This is a good idea, they could always patch in a localised language track later...maybe. I don't really know how it all works.

Compile hearts were also the first to express interest in using the DS4's touch pad 'extensively'.

Make of that what you will.

Magicite3680d ago

Anyone else noticed, suddenly theres more than usual announcements of upcoming PS4 games?
Those who said PS4 is in drought, soon will be overflooded :)

Inception3680d ago

The 1st JRPG for PS4 is Natural Doctrine, even though it's not PS4 exclusive.

Sly-Lupin3680d ago

Its very surprising to me, as Ubisoft has already released a JRPG on PS4.

gameDevWannaBe3680d ago

I would usually say regret, loneliness and a full HDD, but I'm seeing someone now for the first time in ages, so I didn't even know there was a steam summer sale going on. Thanks for sharing that info though.

Omega Quintet - PC Review | Chalgyr's Game Room

Chalgyr's Game Room writes:

Omega Quintet is a jRPG that your wife/girlfriend/mother is going to look at you strangely for playing. Moreso than the usual looks you get from jRPGs. Crafted by the crew at Compile Heart, this entry in your library is super Japanese, even though it's been translated over. That is not meant in any sort of disparaging sense of the term, but instead, if you tend to embrace the concept of Japan's pop idols, and always wanted to turn those into battling jRPG characters, well this is your chance.
