Halo Devs to “Reinvent the Future of Entertainment” Powered by Cloud; Working on “Exciting Features”

Looks like the Halo development team at 343 Industries is quite serious about implementing ground breaking cloud-powered features in the upcoming games of the franchise, and are also looking in "gaming as a service" features.

HALO!!!!

@cyguration
im pretty sure if they have an xbox one they have internet...u don't need superb internet for the cloud

@ lukas

agreed..love the halo series...though im more of a gears fan....I cant get enough of halo

GarrusVakarian3710d ago (Edited 3710d ago )

Hands down the best Xbox franchise imo. Every time some news or snippets of info gets revealed for an upcoming Halo game, i go weak at the knees.

This was the game i originally intended to get an X1 for, so i can't wait to see how this turns out, this franchise gripped me from the first time i laid my eyes on Halo 1. Make the MP a bit more simplistic like the older games and i will love it (didn't really dig Halo 4's MP). I also think 343i's approach to the Chief was better than Bungie's (giving him more dialogue and fleshing him out a little more).

@Lawboy

Yeah, my friend prefers Gears as a whole too, but ive always been a huge Sci-Fi nerd and i prefer FPS to TPS, so ive always preferred Halo. Halo 3 MP was god-tier, so many fond memories.

Lawboy23710d ago

imho this is what makes the two games great...because they sort of cancel each other out...most ppl I know are either huge halo fans or huge gears fans...(some COD but that's another story)...but both fanbases appreciate the other and usually play both games...I think I personally like gears more because im better at gears...

also whats up with all the disagrees...what did we say

B-radical3710d ago

Halo began it all for me took gaming alot more serious when i finished halo ce :)

Shadonic3710d ago

agreed, I did not get the Xbox one first because I was still hesitent after Halo 4 but yea one of the main reasons I want one is for Halo and state of decay and i would like to play that time game.

randomass1713710d ago

I actually really like Halo as a shooter series. Haven't really been excited for one though. Maybe Halo 5 will change my view on that though.

medman3710d ago (Edited 3710d ago )

I'm looking forward to seeing what Halo looks like and plays like on xbone, but I'm more than a little fatigued from the constant cloud talk from microsoft. It's time for more show and less talk.

TitanUp3709d ago

halo co op story is probably best in gaming. no one seems to do story co op right.

If you own any of the Xbox consoles then you got!! to be either a halo or a gears fan
There is no other reason to own those systems

I bought a 360 only for gears

Well actually also bought it for Mass Effect,Bioshock & GtA IV episodes
But we kinda know how well that went

Alan Wake was a super bonus though....one hell of a game

otherZinc3709d ago

Halo!!!

Keep the "Campaign CO-OP" coming!

Looking forward to Halo November 2014!

cyguration3710d ago

Please, no more cloud lies. Also, anyone with poor internet connection should just skip the game then.

Abriael3710d ago

I'm kinda more intrigued/worried about the "Gaming as a service" part to be honest.

Belasco3710d ago

Then skip it, and spare those that enjoy it your negative comments.

cyguration3710d ago

So if someone likes Halo and has poor internet, they should just skip the game then?

That's great problem solving there.

Charybdis3710d ago

@cyguration
Then I would advise to update their internet connection. Assuming they like halo games it might also be an idea to try some of the online multiplayer matches of the previous halo games on the xb360.

I know not everyone has access to a good internet connection but honestly without a good internet connection I would not advise anyone to buy an xbox one or ps4 for that matter.

GoPanthers9993710d ago

Go away this is a Halo board, troll elsewhere.

mhunterjr3710d ago (Edited 3710d ago )

Online play is what turned halo from a celebrated classic, to an entertainment phenomenon.

It's, Safe to say, the target audience will have the internet speed requires to play the online portion of the game... Stop exaggerating.

OpieWinston3710d ago

First of all you're clearly too dense to understand how Cloud offloading works. Maybe they'll do what Titanfall did and offload Audio or Textural details for certain MP maps on the cloud when you're playing Online. Or maybe they'll take a note from Forza and allow for you to play against Bots that mimic your friends playstyle. Campers/No scope Snipers/Noob tubers/Rocket Hoggers/Etc...

If they have Multiplayer powered by Cloud it means that the game will allow for them to offload tasks onto Dedicated Servers and the people with poor internet connections will suffer instead of P2P where you host and the rest of the players suffer.

If you have a shitty internet, you probably won't be playing the MP anyways.

ALLWRONG3710d ago

"Please, no more cloud lies"

Reminds me of the people who once thought the world was flat, or that thunderstorms are gods wrath.

randomass1713710d ago

Lies? How can it be lie unless they don't deliver? We're still in the testing phase. If it launches and doesn't work, THEN it's a lie.

bababrooks3709d ago

How can it be a "lie" when it's for a job posting....that's a fact!!!!!!!

randomass1713710d ago

Destiny is not really an MMO. It's a multiplayer FPS that is similar to an MMO.

OpieWinston3710d ago

Hoping for an Open World Halo like Destiny. It'd be pretty sweet for them to use the Cloud to create another Living breathing world like Sunset Overdrive and Fable Legends are going to be.

I can dream...

Themba763710d ago

yea this games as a service thing has me a little concerned. It's like everyone wants to bite netflix now because they are killing it on the stock market. ppl need to stop sweatin netflix and do there own thing.

ghostface93710d ago

ya of the gaming companies that are trying to be like netflix it would be ps4 with play now service not x1

KwietStorm_BLM3710d ago

I'm so tired of hearing "reinventing the future of entertainment." Just focus on making a good game and let the chips fall. It doesn't need marketing glitter.

OC_MurphysLaw3710d ago

To be fair this isn't PR/Marketing responding to Dualshockers but rather its an excerpt from a job description at MS. Typically those descriptions are filled with all kinds of buzz words to get candidates excited about applying to the job.

Fireseed3710d ago

Would love to see a classified written by Kwiet...

Position: Game Programmer
Description: Just making a game, nothing special. Really not trying to push the bar, just finish the product.

TheRealHeisenberg3710d ago

@ Fireseed

Lol, I should apply for that. This is where I learned how to be a game programmer.

christocolus3710d ago

I strongly believe 343i will amaze a lot of gamers with Halo5 same with BT and Gears of war....looking forward to E3.

Geoff9003710d ago

Basically the title means, 'We are doing more than just a video game' think film/t.v series.

randomass1713710d ago

That's what Nintendo does and no one really gives them credit for that. People want new and exciting things and hopefully everyone, particularly 343 Industries, will deliver that.

Master Chief Became More Than A Machine In 343's Halo

In Halo 4, 5, and Infinite, Master Chief became a more nuanced, human character.

In spite of the Halo series’ struggles, 343 deserves praise for adding nuance and characterisation to the ever-beating heart of Halo - The Master Chief. Playing through Infinite, it's abundantly clear that the events of the current and previous trilogies have irrevocably changed the iconic hero. He’s no longer the ‘blank slate’ that was previously presented by Bungie. He’s a fatigued, damaged and fallible protagonist, and one who is meandering through currents of grief, while reveling in his newfound agency. Giving the Chief a compelling and meaningful voice was no small feat, and 343 should be proud of that victory.

This article completely misses part of the appeal of the original iteration of character in the original game trilogy. It was the Chief and Cortana vs an entire alien collective. The blank slate Bungie displayed in their games was genius, he was an mysterious hero a wide audience could identify with because he wasn't as clearly defined as most characters.

The books added a lot of lore and backstory but most Halo players just want a fun game with exposition that doesn't get in the way of gameplay, it's why the Cortana level in Halo 3 was derided.

Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty.

BandarHub455d ago

A lot of people give the 343 version of Master Chief a lot of slack.
But Fundamentally he is still the same character, he just has a couple more dialogues. He has not changed in terms of attitude.
"Not every character has to be a damaged soyboy, a soldier has to suck it up and do his duty."
And that's what he has done at the end of the day, he did his duty. Watch his partner die, and was ready to destroy the weapon in Halo infinite....he is still the same soilder that everyone remembers

Halo Infintes one was a nice balance between both.

slate91455d ago

Chief and the halo franchise became a joke under 343

Sciurus_vulgaris455d ago

The 343i Master Chief has is based on the books. However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion.

Obscure_Observer455d ago

"However, in Halo 4-Infinite, the Master Chief overtime become. gradually becomes more willing to show some emotion."

Which is awesome! I love how Master Chief become more John and less soldier.

Daily Video Game writes: "GameStop is running a new pre-owned game sale on over 1000 pre-owned games that offers four pre-owned ($9.99 or less) games for $20 across multiple gaming platforms right now, including PS3 and Xbox 360!"

I mean, the deal is alright… Unfortunately for me the Serious S doesn’t have a disk drive and unfortunately for Gamestop a lot of those games are on or have been on Gamepass/PSNow.

Sgt_Slaughter696d ago

Given the nature of backwards compatibility on new systems, this is a great sale in case you missed out on some gems from last gen.

Mandingo2020696d ago

Most of the games on Xbox are on game pass. The Switch games in this sale are trash c'mon farming simulator that's laughable. The PS4 games should be cheaper. I can't wait for the GameStop going out of business liquidation sale.

neutralgamer1992696d ago

Seriously man I don't get the hate on GS and I guess you want even less options and give more control to the publishers

And you want thousands of people to lose their jobs because you don't like a company. One thing I have noticed is how most who hate on GS haven't shopped at the actual stores in years. Many who hate on GS have also done so listening to others negative stories or experiences. People on YT want clicks and hating on GS is the cool thing

SurgicalMenace695d ago

It's not people's hate that would lose people's jobs, it's the shady business practices of the company. So what you're saying is that because people work there individuals should just support what they don't want to? Sound advice; Hitler too had supporters, employees, and advocates but people go around hating him too. They only hate because of other people's bad stories or experiences; they only spoke bad about him because they wanted attention. It's been decades; lets give his way another go. With your logic anything could be made to sound good.🤷🏾‍♂️

neutralgamer1992695d ago

SurgicalMenace

Seriously you used Hitler as an example to say company has shady practices

You don't have to shop at GS there are many other retailers. I shop there and vast majority of my experiences have been positive and most of the employees are super nice

SurgicalMenace695d ago

Just having some fun, bro.🤣🤣

Mandingo2020695d ago

There are other places to work besides GS. Plus, their benefits are trash so why not work somewhere else?

REDGUM696d ago

And none of those game you speak of you actually own as they are digital not physical & would cost more than $20 as the subscription costs more than that.

Mandingo2020695d ago (Edited 695d ago )

You know you can get game pass ultimate codes for the low on cdkeys or g2a right? You don't need to have a subscription 😂. GS is trash and I'd rather support the mom and pop game store here instead.

BlackTar187695d ago

Why are you people so full of hate? GameStop gives people jobs and provides a physical appearance to see things in the flesh and not just some soulless online experience.

Mandingo2020695d ago

You can get physical at mom and pop game stores plus you can get it online. GS is trash

neutralgamer1992695d ago

Because Mom and Pop shops cost two to three times more for the same product Angie the answer

BlackTar187695d ago (Edited 695d ago )

Mom and pop stores cost more and have even harder time competing against the internet. Also lie to me and tell you have a couple mom and pop stores near you selling games then lie and tell me you shop there.

IanTH696d ago

These sales, while potentially great, really struggle to be valuable given you can't easily parse what games are in stock. You can't just say "only show what is online & what are in my nearby stores". Probably 60-75% of these games in these massive lists are out of stock for shipping, and out of stock locally. It makes it a chore to find anything you'd want, much less 4 of them, much less enough if you wanted to get to a free shipping tier. It's a bummer.

NoobFeed Editor Joshua Burt writes - There are many games in the famous Halo Franchise that are stellar titles and need to be revered. And some that do not. These games stand out from the crowd and deluge of colossal Halo titles. Games that made Halo great. We do need to iron out what qualifies the game for this list. They have to be in the Halo franchise… Obviously.

Halo CE over Halo Infinite anyday

Not to mention the impact it had at the time

Flawlessmic766d ago

Halo 3 at the top is correct the only thing id change is swap infinite and halo ce around.

AuraAbjure766d ago

Halo 4 best campaign and multiplayer. Halo 3 best story.

ChubbyBlade765d ago

Are you trying to give people cancer?

AuraAbjure764d ago (Edited 764d ago )

Halo 4 has the hottest Cortana too which explains why the MC is the hardest in that campaign and why H4's multiplayer is the illest. Chief ain't afraid to take on teleporting enemies that can one hit melee kill.
