The PS4 Doesn’t Need A Reputation System, Just Features New and Old

GOS: "Firmware 1.7 is coming soon for PS4 owners with features including the ability to turn off the HDCP and export captured video to USB devices. While Sony is doing a great job so far of maintaining the PS4 and adding features, Microsoft has always beaten Sony in that department. The upcoming 1.7 update reminds me of a survey Sony sent out asking gamers to choose what appealed to them on a list of tantalizing features. One of the features that I found very unappealing is a reputation system"

Sony is soooo slow when it comes to System Software Firmware Updates.

Microsoft has had 2 Major Firmware updates in the last 2-3 months i think.

Sony has has only 1 since launch and it brought Headset support...

Does sony have the smallest team ever of system system software engineers? It has Always been like this, for the PS3 and then vita.

randomass1713680d ago

I would wager they are more focused on things like expanding on PS Now and the Vita library.

Cha0tik3680d ago

Or maybe they are trying to add many features into one update instead of separating each update like Microsoft has been doing with the Xbone. They have updated more because they are adding features within each update. I bet Sony is creating one major update instead of many so the consumers won't have to wait for most of the features pitched to them. I rather wait till they get it right because once the update comes out many people are going to be complaining the systems bricked or whatever so I rather see them test it as much as possible to prevent that from happening to as many systems as possible. More updates isn't always better.

randomass1713680d ago

That seems like wishful thinking. Spacing out updates into smaller increments is a lot smarter than cramming them all into one big update due to bandwidth and convenience for people downloading and installing the update.

dantesparda3680d ago (Edited 3680d ago )

I agree with randomass, wishful thinking. Sony needs to step it up in this department.

dcbronco3680d ago

I think smaller, constant updates are also better because the wait is shorter for easy fixes and there is less chance of something killing your system. Huge updates lead to errors for some users.

Cha0tik3679d ago

It's not impossible. We are talking about a company that is accomplishing streamed rental games. If it happens... I called it. So far better twitch streaming and viewing, exporting game captures has been granted official as well as the removal of HDCP. They have already said "there will be plenty in the update to excite everyone" so we will see when the time comes around.

Cha0tik3679d ago

Right after posting here they proved I'm right... It's a major update containing a ton of new features. In addition to what I just said was official in my last post they also added Auto-Downloading so when you preorder games the game will be downloaded 4 days in advance so you can instantly play when unlocked. ShareFactory, this is a new rich editing app which will also allow exporting game captures and snapshots as well as new effects and your own music to the clips. They also said there is more to come. :) So my wishful thinking has been proven to be a wish come true haha

To be honest, what is the rush for Sony. Their console is selling really well without said features. I can see them holding off till E3 where they will announce and release a big patch. I think they would want to make a bigger impact.

OT I really do not want a reputation system. It will just be abused.

Samsara823680d ago

Xbox has had that for a while and it works fairly well. It is moderated by xboxlive so people don't abuse and it sure makes for a better experience because people that rage quit/cheat are gonna be low rated and end up playing against each other. Most people don't usually bother reporting because you have to go in recent players, pick the right person et cast a vote that is moderated after.. If a person sends u a recorded hate message, it makes it fairly easy for them to get caught if u report them.

randomass1713680d ago

Very well said. There is no huge rush when the PS4 has the least problems of the three main consoles.

Bennibop3680d ago

Sony can't win with firmware updates! For the first few years PS3 was out they released firmware virtually every month and everyone complained it was to frequent.

Rhythmattic3680d ago (Edited 3680d ago )

And with that, that is why some people here called it the "Patchstation"

All new systems have room to move, room to get better...
Hardware is set, and with that, it now comes down to damn good games, with a damn good OS.

Volkama3680d ago

People enjoy firmware updates when they bring appealing features.

People get annoyed by firmware updates when the only appreciable difference is that you have to sit through a download and update process.

PS3 firmware updates were annoying. XBox One updates are good. The PS4 is currently somewhere between those, they are neither obtrusive nor interesting. Sony will "win with firmware updates" when those updates include new features (which they surely will before long).

TitanUp3680d ago

i had a ps3 at launch and i got excited every time a new firmware update released.

think playstation now is taking up a lot of their time.

TKCMuzzer3680d ago

You talk as if its a good thing Microsoft have released to major updates since launch. The reason behind that is that Xbox one was ready to be released and Microsofts hand was forced.
As gamers all we keep saying is, its about the games, its about the games. Alot of people don't half complain about missing other things.

Fireseed3680d ago

Only way to prove that you're not full of it is to vow you will stay on your PS4s firmware as of this date. You shall NEVER update it even when there is a patch available since apparently Sony released a console SO PERFECT that it need not a single update.

TKCMuzzer3680d ago

Sorry, I missed a word out. Microsoft were not ready to release.
As for your reply, its stupid. I never said it was perfect but that people are complaining needlessly. Whether you want to admit it or not Microsoft had more to fix, hence more major updates.
Maybe you should read the comments before assuming, I've read my comment again and not once does it say the PS4 is perfect. My point was simple, there is reason why Microsoft had released more updates.

imt5583680d ago

WTF, Mikey? For PS3 OFW's were released more often than for X360.

Pon43680d ago (Edited 3680d ago )

And Microsoft will release another shortly external HDD with other features and fixes and they aren't stoping go XboxOne

MeteorPanda3680d ago

well Microsoft have all the software engineers, sony doesn't have so many l'd wager. The updates will come.

NeoTribe3680d ago

Maybe its because your comparing a software giant to a hardware giant? Derp....

Flamingweazel3680d ago

MS had no twitch, storage management, and a laggy OS sony did not, they had more to fix.

izumo_lee3680d ago

So lots of firmware updates are good now? I remember when 360 gamers made fun that the PS3 had so many of them.

Like some have said. The system is selling well even without many features. Sony are taking suggestions on what to add as a priority & what can be saved for a later date.

Hicken3680d ago

Xbox fans have extremely short memories, it would seem. It was only last year that the PS3 was frequently berated for constantly having updated, and yet now it's the greatest thing ever that the XB1 is receiving frequent patches and updates.

I just want the functionality of the XMB back, it was simple yet worked well.

I want organization! and to get rid of those lame music things I dont want

randomass1713680d ago

More customization never hurt anyone. 'Till then I guess we should just bask in the fruit of Sony's success. At the very least we're still getting games, games and more games.

iamnsuperman3680d ago

It is crazy but people hated the XMB for being to unintuitive (an argument that stunned me since the XMB is incredible simple to use).

Even though I liked it, I don't want it back in the same way. The hidden XMB works quite well but the big one needs more work. It needs more customisation. I like how the recently played is there but I would like it in folders because at the moment it isn't well organised

Mankey3680d ago

Please. No reputation system.

finito823680d ago

I really hope you will be able to change user name sin the future, great idea.

finito823680d ago

sony doesnt need to focus on "keeping up" with microsft, as long as they focus on providing the best systems functionality then they have nothing to worry about.

Just Where is Project Awakening?

After years of development, Project Awakening is still nowhere to be seen. What exactly is going on?

I was impressed with the trailer and hoped to find out more and then it fell off the map with no new information. Not sure if it's vaporware or not but I stopped thinking about it and moved on. Maybe it was moved to a new and improved engine, moved to PS5 development and suffers the long Dev times that many games had/have suffered from lately. Who knows. But we'll see.

As for gaming bolt, that video was trash. A long winded video that says nothing for 7 minutes going back and forth on it may or may not still exist and just kept going and going and going trying to produce an informative video with barely any information. Like an article with a word quota that's just paragraphs of nothing. Showing me that they haven't gotten any better at game journalism. If we can even call it that.

XiNatsuDragnel7h ago

I'm interested in project awakening still

lodossrage3h ago

One of the directors for the game already said that game was still being worked on just last month....

Kaozz19798m ago(Edited 6m ago)

Stop buying the fucking game! It is no secret that the game is based around opening packs that need to be bought with real money if you want to be competitive. Yes I know, you have the chance to get the cards without investing real money, but that is a real grind and you still may never get the cards you want. This is not new and it will not change if people keep buying the game/packs.
