Did anyone notice the detail in Marcus's ears in the close up? Most games have a really hard time with ears. That is beautiful if a hairy ear can be beautiful.

Oh wow, don't even pull that card. Maybe in your opinion, but people wouldn't still be playing Gears to today if it didn't have great gameplay. Hell I forgive the campaign because co-op gameplay was so damn fun.

The gameplay was very refreshing, and obviously you didn't read about the new MP details yet because the game's gameplay just got a helluva lot better, and that's saying a lot because I loved the gameplay in Gears 1. The multiplayer actually has a focus on it now and it looks like it'll have the best MP this year. Gears it was just kind of thrown in, yet people on my friend's list still play it on XBL. I can't imagine how long they are going to play this then. I agree with you though. Gameplay is by far the most important thing. Graphics are just the icing on the cake. We've all played great games with crappy graphics, and crappy games with great graphics. Amazing graphics do add to the experience though. GoW2 will be a GOTY candidate.

these new screen look good BUT UT3 engine still looks best on UT3 for PC. You need a great PC to make this claim obvious though. But running at 1900x1200 with AA and everything maxed completely kills GOW1 or 2 on a console. Plus the lighting on the PC is still cleaner and sharper. But this console job of the UT3 engine is looking good. So, hurray for everyone i guess.

The fact that the upgraded unreal engine 3 looks better than the black/white/grey KZ2 engine just goes to show how bad sony has failed this gen. I gotta admit the character models are looking great, but the environment textures aren't up to the same standards as of yet though. They've got a little way to go to match Uncharted in terms of the textures. Lighting looks alot better now.

I'm saying uncharted as my exampe because it was the step above Gears of War, not because it's on the playstation 3.

i'll use gears one to show you why. While Uncharted was a great game and graphically the best on the PS3, (in my opinion) i don't think it surpassed the original Gears. Here's some hi-res pics of Gears 1.

the first pic is just to show the different textures on the character and the stone rail in the background.

the second pic is to show the really good stone textures, look at the wall texture vs the floor. And the mesh textures mixed with the metal on the characters. Gears was an impressive game to begin with.

The last is the pic you gave me of uncharted. While the stone textures are impressive, his jeans textures look wrong for some reason (don't know why, but that doesn't look like fabric to me) and the Pipe look a little detached. As if they did not belong to that screenshot.

Uncharted is a beautiful game, and even better in motion. But i do not think it surpassed gears 1, and definitely i don't think gears 2 has anything to worry about when being compared.

well, kudos to uncharted, they did use normal mapping also. Both Gears and Uncharted are graphical feats. They both use normal mapping, but Gears still gets the nod in my opinion as you can tell by my previous post; the texture detail and quality is just a little bit better. But that goes to show how awesome the Uncharted Devs are. I wish they would do a 360 game, but i know it's impossible. Sony knows what they have and would never let them do a game for 360. But at least the Devs for HS are gonna do a game. HS had some impressive graphics, i can't wait to see what they could do with the 360.

it depends. You would want to use grayscale bump mapping for really small bumps, normal mapping for larger ones, and so on. So please, stop trying to act smarter than people by correcting them, its annoying. On a different note, uncharted wins in graphics without a doubt. ...had better environmental graphics. The images provided above don't really do either game full justice as both games need to be seen in motion to really appreciate them.

Why do I think Uncharted had better environment graphics - easy, the environments felt alive with real time wind and shadow effects. There were times I just sat there and looked at the screen as it looked so real. Oh, and as for the jeans looking funny in uncharted in the image above, the character had just been swimming in some water and they were still wet. Over the period of about 30-40 seconds the clothes gradually dry off again.

I have played both Uncharted and Gears of War and let me say that if you put the merged the gears of war characters into the Uncharted environments then you would have the best looking console game to date.

iLL hold u to it on this bet. We still havent seen Resistance 2 in single player mode in action. June 13th we will see more. Also remember RFOM was a launch title and still it was manage to sell over 2.8 million copies. For a game like gears that came a year after the 360's release and wowed so many, 5 million copies is nuttin special. I am willing to be that Resistance 2 sells just as much and will be rated around the same as gears 2.

trailer starts off with mass chaos, I mean locust just f*cking everything up. people running, buildings exploding, movie voice kinda giving same story you heard at beginning of Geow 1, but just as we see all of that destruction, you have a locust boss walking towards a woman or child on the ground backing away from the locust boss scared to death, and just as the locust boss raises its gun to kill the woman/child, Marcus Felix chainsaw starts at the crotch and totally splits the locust boss in half, kicks the body, sending the two pieces going in opposite directions, and then as the camera focuses on Felix, he says..."Damn locust will never learn" and the screen goes black, and then you don't see the title, "gears of war"....oh no, all you see is the Gears of War skull..................and then a release date so far away it leads Geow faithfuls to tearing up the theater and eventually burning it down!!!!!

The scans look great, but thats not the gameplay. Epic got their order of operations screwed up. First pre-rendered images for a few months.. then gameplay. Not Gameplay First, then pre-rendered images.

Screens look good, maybe thats a build of the game that they didn't show off in the Gameplay trailer, knowing the UNreal engine and epics history though, That same pinkish bluish bloom lit high res model trick is what they do over and over again.

I think if the gameplay looked like the scans, no one in their right mind would be calling Gears 2, Gears 1.5.

I'm sure that first scan with the closeup is a bullshot. The rest looks on par with the gameplay footage.

Look at the gameplay trailer of Gears 2.....much more locust on screen and bigger battle settings.The game will be 5 times bigger then the original.
Graphics are sometimes a personal opinion but when you compare Gears 2 with Haze is not very smart.
The first Gears got alot of rewards with review scores up to 95%.

its sad really....I mean Gears brings everything to the table, it looks fcking cool, its exciting, and most importantly its a blast to play. I really loved the original Halo...it was just one of those games that came a long and just made me love gaming more, thats kinda how Gears did this gen, so far other than Halo3/COD4 imo not many shooters have been able to deliver that fun factor I enjoy in shooters, I think devs do their best with what they have but still its hard to standout in the crowded shooter market but I have to give credit to Epic because it seems like with Gears they have found that elusive formula that makes a game just a whole lot of fun to play, its a total package, and keeps you coming back. aaahh well but the haters of course will always hate, blinded by their brand loyalty, its sorta entertaining to watch their desperate attempts to downplay the game....so sad and so funny.

I played Gears of War it's cool.
Game play is fun something new.
Graphics is good not as good as Uncharted but still good.
I really liked the game play video that was released where you shoot all those locusts and your able to blow off pieces of their parts off.
ex.) Giant boss Locust (blow parts of his face off.)
Love the chain saw gun and all the blood.
Even though I'm a Sony fan this game is still well put together and I plan to purchase this game for the PC soon.

Yes i couldn't believe it but it's true xbox games support more 1080p games than ps3, and i have an elite and it supports 1080p and you can buy a hdmi cable now for the premium xbox and it too supports 1080p.

I also have a ps3 i was going to sell it because of the games situation on ps3, but looking at kz2 i will hang on a bit.

You can smell fanboys a mile away. I keep hearing things like Gears 1.5. Reminds me of the Xbox 1.5 comments from the fanboys when theh specs of the machines were announced a few years ago. This game looks awesome. If you can't see it, you are full of you know what.

I also can't stand people claiming that this game is being rushed. Pardon me, but Resistance 2 is coming out two years after the first one - just like GoW2. Why is Resistance going to be a great game, but Gow2 is being rushed?

As for 60 player multiplayer against 5x5, why is this an issue? I used to play Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 and these games supported tons of players online at the same time. These games were great, but they weren't more fun than Halo 3 or Gears of War. They were different, but I can't say that the fact that more people were playing at the same time made the game better.

I think that Resistance 2 looks great. Killzone 2 does too. These look like great shooters - games that I would probably get if they were coming out for the 360 too. That said, GoW2, is going to rock. GoW sold like 6 million copies and Epic wants to cash in after disappointing UT3 sales.

Funny how a lot of people are getting a copy of Gears back all of a sudden.The sequel does look and sound utterly awesome though.Enjoyed the first one but must admit to not fully connecting with it like i hoped.I urge anyone with a 360 however to give Gears a second shot because when it clicks, it does it in such a way that you are in awe of it.Recently got my Gears back and i'm very glad to say that although quite different to Halo's magnificence, it's just about in the same league regarding how much fun can be had.Must learn not to be quite so dismissive sometimes.

360 fans have nothing to worry about concerning the sequel which is somthing less certain for those waiting on Killzone and Resistance
