inFAMOUS Second Son: Almost Famous | GE Review

With all the right blocks in the wrong order, inFAMOUS so far has been a pretender to what it truly strives to be; more like, than a love, always promising more than what is given. Shortly after the initial next-gen announcement dust settled, Second Son quickly became the forerunner in the “This is the game that will justify your purchase” conversation for PlayStation 4 early adopters. Following the mixed success of the first two offerings, has developer Sucker Punch’s ”I think I can” exclusive pushed into the realm of must have or is it just more of the middle road that you already know?

Thanks for reading everyone. If you have any comments, concerns, or feedback, be sure to leave your thoughts here and I'll do my best to respond. As opposed to reacting simply to the score, I encourage you to read through the reviews critiques first.

marlinfan103687d ago

I've got a feeling you'll get a lot of dislikes and hate over this article. giving infamous a 6.5 is worse than murder to some of these fanboys. just giving you a heads up

JasonRoseEh3687d ago

That's something I'm perfectly fine with as I don't review games based on expectations. The critiques justify the score and despite being a fan of the previous games, this needed to be much more than a new gorgeous coat of paint.

tuglu_pati3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

@ JasonRoseEh

Good subjective review, but you need to redesign that website it look pretty bad. :)

Its worth more then a 6.5 I say around 8 considering the glory of 1080p even thou the story might lack but its thee one of the games thats flexing ps4 muscles and it aint glitchy

But for titanfall I give it a 7 due to low count playeres laggy in certain parts and a buggy mess with the servers

bosoxs5053687d ago

You're judging a game based of the graphics...

Irishguy953687d ago

Yes, every PC game from the last 10 years is at least an 8 because of 1080p. Even 'the war z'

marlinfan103687d ago

great read. its nice seeing a reviewer base their score purely off gameplay rather than comparing it to other games.

randomass1713687d ago

Thing about judging gameplay is it's totally subjective too. He thought the gameplay was a'ight. But many others thought it was a lot of fun. It goes to show that difference of opinion exists and can be conveyed in a well thought out and sincere way.

randomass1713687d ago

I have not yet played Second Son, but I think I'll like enough to give it more than this number. That all being said, thank you for your honest opinion. Stepping away from what people expect is often intimidating because of how passionate fans are of their favorite games (and us Sony fans are some of the most passionate). I respect your score, sir. Happy gaming. :)

Genuine-User3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

What kind of random events and side quests would you have liked to see in Second Son?

I agree with some of the points you make but I also take into account that SS was made by a 100+ man team.

I would give the game an 8.5 for what it is, not what it could have been if it was developed by Rocksteady or Rockstar.

fluxmulder3687d ago

Now you've done it. You know that N4G has a strong Sony bias, right? :)

dale_denton3687d ago

lol your site is a joke.. not getting clicks from me if you're thanking people to read.. you ain't special son.

Magnes3687d ago (Edited 3687d ago )

Who are you again and why are you reviewing games? Oh your a nobody like me. Here's my review played through twice loved it a bit short but only compared to infamous 2 which I give a 10. Infamous SS 8.5 out of 10. There about as meaningless of a review as yours.

And really you use your last bubble to say
"I mean, what?" Wow

Can I read this and not get the story spoiled? This is on my backlog already.... ;(

Godz Kastro3687d ago

You got a backlog on PS4? Uhhhhhhh...really?

pyramidshead3687d ago

Haven't you? PS4 has more games available on it than any next gen console right now, not surprised people already have backlogs.

Hicken3687d ago

And you don't?

Oh, right. You don't know what games are even ON the PS4, let alone HAVE one.

WafflesID3686d ago

God forbid some of us have real jobs and it takes a little longer to finish games.

MasterCornholio3686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

With plus and FTP titles I have a sizable backlog on my PS4 and if your talking about PS3 and Vita my backlog is huge (thanks plus).

@Waffles

Don't forget those of us who study as well.

Themba763686d ago (Edited 3686d ago )

I got a backlog too still haven't beat ac4 yet and resogun to busy jet fightin in bf4 #1 in my state in attack jets and #3 in stealth hard to keep that record up.

Simco8763684d ago

Yeah having a wife, two kids, and a full time job really cuts into hobbies man. Wish I could keep up, but I usually have to wait until price drops to get the games I want to play.

WeAreLegion3687d ago

It sounded like you really liked the game, but knocked off too many points for little things. I feel like you were expecting The Last of Us or something.

tuglu_pati3687d ago

well we should expect Last of Us quality from every game why should we settle for less.

goldwyncq3687d ago

I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed a lot then.

randomass1713687d ago

But not everyone liked TLOU. Not everyone has the opinion that it was a great game. And that's okay, those people have different opinions and are very much entitled to them.

Bathyj3687d ago

So every game that comes out has to be better than one of the best games ever made?

Is that a realistic expectation?

Even if it could be done, ONCE, arent you just setting yourself up for disappointment every single time a game comes out?

How many times can you raise the bar before you hit the ceiling?

WrAiTh Sp3cTr33687d ago

"So every game that comes out has to be better than one of the best games ever made?"

So iNFMAOUS should be cheaper than TLOU? I think you're onto something.

Hicken3687d ago

@tuglu: not realistically possible.

@wraith: that was an incredibly stupid comment.

Pretty honest review. I finished it being good but couldn't find it in me to play through again evil as it was too much all the same combat wise. Spraying walls & chasing bad guys in side missions were again too repetitive. Looks great by the way. Glad I played it, but I just felt it needed more variety.

bloop3687d ago

I agree, more variety would've been nice. The side missions really started to remind me of the first Assassins Creed after a while!! It's definitely worth going through again with Evil Karma though, just don't bother with the side missions. I did Good Karma first time too and I had much more fun second time around on Evil. Think it deserves more than a 6.5 though. My only negatives about the game are that it was way too easy, the main campaign length is actually pretty short, and the side missions were too repetitive. I'd score it a solid 8 myself.

PS3and4_HAS_GAMES3687d ago

Opinions are opinions but this game is far from a 6.5 at least 8.5 and up. One of the best games this gen so far.

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM124d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck123d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati123d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88155d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183154d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie154d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.
