Hideo Kojima on 'The Division': It's so good, 'it makes me want to quit my job'

Tom Clancy's The Division is a next generation game that is being developed by Massive Entertainment and released by Ubisoft. Examiner is featuring a segment this week with Massive Entertainment's Managing Director David Polfeldt. This segment focuses on people's initial reactions to the announcement of The Division at E3 2013. Polfeldt states below that competitors like DICE, the developers for Destiny, and even Hideo Kojima considered the game a "must see". Here is what Polfeldt had to say about those people's reactions.

Meanwhile, KONAMI shits in its pants.

rodiabloalmeida3677d ago

Meanwhile, Kojima gets itself ready for MGS VI saying it's gonna be his last Metal Gear tittle...again.

Years ago he said he won't quit making games until the day he dies.

Kojima is the Brett Favre of video games

sonarus3677d ago

lol @ brett favre. As for the division, i won't lie this game looked straight up fantastic when first revealed. But i will remain skeptical till i see it running on actual hardware considering all the visual downgrades that have been occuring with a lot of these games that are shown running on high end pc

alexkoepp3677d ago

Kojima has gone all emo, always crying over his skills as of late

starchild3677d ago

@sonarus

What are all these downgrades you speak of?

The recent Watch Dogs PC trailer looks better than anything in the early trailers.

Infamous SS wasn't downgraded either, it was just a time of day difference.

Which games specifically are proven to have been downgraded?

Gazondaily3676d ago

"We had DICE over, we had Destiny over, everybody else came over and said guys, ‘this is excellent, what have you been doing? Please show it to us.’"

I wish I worked for a gaming company p_p Think kind of story makes me regret that I didn't focus on getting into the gaming industry earlier.

XisThatKid3676d ago

just like what Alex said he's been doing this alot lately for about a couple years now. I get the whole "praise peers" thing but I'm starting to feel like it's just lack of confidence and afraid it may start to show in future projects. I love Kojima work on so many levels and I love his attitude. I hope he doesn't get too discouraged.

Sevir3676d ago

Seeing this is just more fire for my conviction that getting into the game industry as a developer is my calling in life, I honestly can't wait to work on a game at a studio like ND or Massive or even Bungie and sucker punch only to have greats like Kojima come over and tell you that your labor of love looks fantastic.

When Kojima came to ND to see the Last of Us it was definitely a sign the game was fantastic. I'm looking forward more so than ever to play "The Division" Bring on the Next Gen Experiences

sonarus3676d ago

Watchdogs doesn't really look improved to me but I dnt really care about that game. Battlefield looked better to me on first reveal. I dnt feel like going thru internet looking for proof. But based on the fact that all we have seen is high end PC footage for a game looking that good I just have to remain skeptical

I know the feeling.

I'd quit my job for the division but then I wouldn't have enough money to actually buy it :(

randomass1713671d ago

I feel ya man. Gotta eat to live, gotta work to eat. And buy games. :(

Magicite3677d ago

Kojima just keeps praising other developers games :D, but that also proves he is a real gamer.

MonstaTruk3676d ago

That's fine. The game's graphics/physics are amazing, I can imagine. I'm just not going to pay full price for an online-only game anymore where you'll *eventually* (I use that word VERY loosely, when it comes to a game's online servers, nowadays) cut the servers off, and I'll have NO EVIDENCE, NO NOSTALGIA PLAYTHROUGH ever again (MAG comes to mind). That's just ridiculous. I'm not paying full/new game price for that...

Gr1mmyshadows3676d ago

So you're not going to play The Division or Destiny?

BEASELY3676d ago

People pay full price all the time for single player only games that they never return to. The amount of time you put into a MP only game far exceeds SP playtimes.

There's a time to speak out against big corporations trying to take advantage of gamers, but sometimes, we need to step back and take a look at the bigger picture. You're getting more than your money's worth in my opinion.

Besides, there's no real nostalgia in MP gaming anyways (in times like these, not speaking for Halo 2, Socom 2, Counterstrike, etc.) The next bigger, better sequel always comes out to replace them.

Panthers3676d ago

Its not always about playtime. I played the hell out of COD4 MP but I dont have any fond memories of it. But I have very fond memories of RE2 which can be beaten in 2 hrs.

frostypants3676d ago

That website sucks. There's a right way to do ads and a wrong way. This is a textbook case of the wrong way.

colonel1793676d ago (Edited 3676d ago )

examiner has always been the WORST designed website ever. Every redesign the make, they somehow manage to make it worse!. I stopped visiting that site long time ago, and stories like this, never click them. I only read the comments.

Them's strong words Kojima. I'll be keeping an eye out for this game now.

droc11233677d ago

You mean to tell me this wasn't on your radar before? The division has looked amazing from day one.

randomass1713677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

Honestly, I didn't even really notice it until this post, of which I feel ashamed.
:(

Gozer3677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

The title of this story is Hideo Kojima on 'The Division': It's so good, 'it makes me want to quit my job' Notice how the only words in quotations are "it makes me want to quit my job"? Pretty sneaky headline there Examiner. If you read the story you will see that Kojima was actually talking about the Massive team, not The Division. Not taking anything from The Division, its one of my most anticipated games, but that headline is misleading. It looks like quiet a few people havent read the actul story.

mrpsychoticstalker3677d ago

Its N4G Bro, everything is possible.

crusf3677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

Didnt he say something along those lines prior to GTAV's Release? Love Kojima but he gives me major Deja Vu.

Kenshin_BATT0USAI3676d ago

oh my god, he praises other people and their works, how terrible right?

BattleTorn3676d ago

sure, but the quote is nearly verbatim to what said about GTAV.

Say something enough and all meaning is lost.

Dark113677d ago (Edited 3677d ago )

interesting , kojima has always been fan of western games.
you can't really blame him especially seeing how japanese developers struggled last gen.

urwifeminder3677d ago

They could have used a more credible person , who the hell trusts Kojima ? maybe he played the demo version.

Jack_Of_All_Blades3677d ago

Well there goes your bubbles for saying something completely stupid

Reverent3677d ago

If only there was a debubble option for that reasoning...

randomass1713676d ago

Low blow pal. And completely unrelated to good game design. :/

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

shinoff2183392d ago

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

-Foxtrot392d ago

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno391d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic391d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman391d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon391d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
