Performance analysis: Titanfall on Xbox 360

EG:With the US launch of Titanfall on the Xbox 360, gaming's best-kept secret has finally been revealed. For one of the most heavily promoted games in history, the complete media black-out surrounding the Xbox 360 version of the game has been mystifying, provoking a raft of theories. Some suggest that the game can't be particularly good in order to have been completely omitted from any and all marketing. Others - noting the involvement of respected developer Bluepoint Games - suggest the opposite: that the game may be so good that it might deflect attention away from the Xbox One launch. Now, finally, we have answers.

"In summary, after a day with the Xbox 360 game, the big takeaway here is that this is Titanfall, and it does appear to be feature-complete on the older console."

So Basically the same experience but noooo MS put the 360 version on media Blackout to help sell more Xones shoot i didn't even know the 360 version released today.

Neonridr3685d ago

well in all fairness, wouldn't you do the same thing? I mean if you say publicly, both games are identical, just one has a slightly better resolution, then what is to urge people to want to jump into the Xbox One version?

MS delayed the game to try to get as many people to make the switch before the 360 version came out.

MS will still make money, but the install base won't grow as much as they would have liked.

randomass1713685d ago

Nintendo did almost the exact same thing with Zelda Twilight Princess, actually. That was made on the Gamecube then development shifted over to Wii in the later part of the cycle and the GCN version was delayed for a few months. It was a means to sell the Wii. And it worked!

So your telling me that MS has been marketing their NEXT Gen Console with a Last Gen Game and acted like 360 version didn't exist http://www.dumbdrops.com/ra...

TomShoe3685d ago

46.5 FPS average?

Man, Bluepoint is a team of wizards.

MysticStrummer3685d ago

"well in all fairness, wouldn't you do the same thing?"

Yeah it's just business, and no one should have thought MS would handle it any differently. There's nothing wrong or surprising about it.

Like many here, I had read ahead of time how similar the 360 version would be, so my big takeaways from this video were the same as watching the game on XB1... how funny it is that people insist this isn't sci fi CoD and how bad the AI is.

@Xsilver - "So your telling me that MS has been marketing their NEXT Gen Console with a Last Gen Game and acted like 360 version didn't exist"

Sure. TF was THE game XB1 fans were looking forward to, and it got a lot of hype from the day it was revealed until it released. MS did the smart business thing by accentuating the XB1 version and ignoring the 360's, especially after the way XB1 sales dropped off after Christmas. Those sales picked back up, which was the objective.

Charybdis3685d ago

Good to hear that it runs well think there might be a large number of 360 owners waiting for this one.

Gamer19823685d ago

Lets be fair Wii sports sold the wii not Zelda.. If Zelda, Mario etc helped sell consoles the WiiU wouldn't be struggling right now.

Well when you have covers like the new issue of Edge you have to do something:

Gotta love the corporate apologists in the world. "It's all okay because that's what corporations do, they screw over the consumers for more money".

Neonridr3685d ago

@jmac - they didn't screw me over at all. I don't own an Xbox One, and I don't play my 360 anymore. I moved on to my PS4 and Wii U. I'm not saying it's ok at all. But why wouldn't MS want more people to upgrade? It means the number of XBox One users go up. But had they not released a 360 version, what would the total sales be for this game?

morganfell3685d ago

@Neonridr,

I think the issue some have is the dishonesty about the way MS went about in their attempt to entice people to upgrade. They stated mere days before the 360 version was due to launch that it was being delayed to polish it. Yet by the time this announcement was made the discs would have been at the retail stores.

Further, you do not achieve such necessary polish in two weeks.

There is also the timing. MS, as is their habit, will readily talk about great sales numbers. There is nothing wrong with that tact. But they were silent from the launch onward. There was obviously an issue and lowered expectations. Monitoring of the top 4 retailers in the US revealed MS could not topple the PS4 at respective outlets even on launch day.

March 31 ends the fiscal year and it is obvious MS was attempting to garner as many X1 sales as possible in order to improve the outlook for the X1 when official numbers were released. Again, there is nothing wrong with that but gamers felt as if they were being played and played in a dishonest fashion.

The X360 version is 1040x600 native resolution which is 600p for it to achieve the unlocked avg of 45fps.

Still, Bluepoint did a great job and I am sure the delays help to refine the game. It is pretty remarkable that the X360 can still pump out games like this in its 9th seasons.

Xsilver3685d ago (Edited 3685d ago )

the X360 can handle BF4 what makes you think it couldn't of handled TF which is not even close to demanding as Battlefield :/.

GTgamer3685d ago

"It is pretty remarkable that the X360 can still pump out games like this in its 9th seasons."

Bro the 360 ran GTA5 now stop acting like TF isn't on the same level performance wise as COD so it's not really remarkable when you think about it.

jmac533685d ago

Bluepoint is a remarkable studio but I do think alot of people bought into the "next-gen" marketing that was Titanfall on Xbox One.

AngelicIceDiamond3685d ago

"MS put the 360 version on media Blackout to help sell more Xones"

Yeah? I mean that's the plan.

The 360 doesn't need the push the X1 does.

T23685d ago

Possibly but as software sales go I think this will hurt tf sales overall, what's bad for tf itself was good for xboxone I suppose... I'm still not sure it worked even

medman3685d ago (Edited 3685d ago )

Pretty sorry state of affairs for the xbone all around. Microsoft keeps spinning faster than a pulsar, desperate to hide all the inefficiencies of dat bone. Good luck with that. Most savvy gamers see through the lies and deception. They've managed to snag a few sheep, but this rover ain't buying til they drop the price, and produce gaming content that is compelling and interesting. Titanfall doesn't interest me in the least. Never did. Never thought it looked "next gen" at E3 2013. They buried this game on the 360 because they thought it would boost lagging bone sales. They only screwed themselves in the end, literally and figuratively, yet again. When will they learn.

@ Xsilver,
LOL, just like Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed 4, Tomb Raider, and every cross gen game, the X360 versions is lower resolution, has less textures, but play the same. I don't know why you are so defensive as I even said Titanfall runs great on X360. Since I already have the XB1 version, it doesn't really concern me but I am happy X360 gamers can have a similar experience on their 9 year old consoles. Happy gaming my friend. :)

Xsilver3685d ago

@No_Limit
"LOL, just like Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed 4, Tomb Raider, and every cross gen game"

I'm sorry which company market those games like they weren't available on PS3/360 like how MS marketed TF :/.

"I don't know why you are so defensive as I even said Titanfall runs great on X360."

One i wasn't being defensive. I was just saying that you are acting surprised that the X360 can run TF smoothly even tho they are allot of demanding games running on the X360 that's what i was saying so don't know why it came as shock to you.

mochachino3685d ago (Edited 3685d ago )

Glad I bought PS4 and kept my 360. I can play Xones best game and save $500.

I can't believe that the Xone and 360 tear pretty much equally. That makes no sense.

Clown_Syndr0me3685d ago

Not suprised to be honest. The game got boring after a week or so though, but then again none of my friends have X1 so I've been playing solo...which is always more boring.

NYC_Gamer3685d ago

I expected Titanfall to run solid on 360 since the game uses the Source Engine

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad609d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g608d ago (Edited 608d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Respawn Entertainment is Discontinuing Sales of Original Titanfall

Sales for the original Titanfall are being discontinued.
It will be pulled from subscription services on March 1, 2022.

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad889d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal888d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
