Newegg is the cheapest for a new one at $125 but 1080p60fps is becoming the norm so you might as well spend another $45 for the Elgato HD60 just make sure your video editing software can render it. I use Sony Movie Studio 13, got it for $30 but its usually selling for around $50. Extra $75-$100 is worth it for smoother videos.
Elgato HD60 isnt PC free like the Avermeida live game portable or the HD PVR rocket so you need a desktop very close by or a good laptop. Need at least a 2nd gen i5 with a base speed of 2 GHz for recording, 2nd gen i7 with base speed of 2 GHz for streaming. Laptop like that is at least $750.
Costs add up fast for youtube and streaming. If you are new to this then you better try free programs first. If you enjoy it and have some success then take a look at these options. I started off making 30 second clips of the Simcity beta and windows movie maker. Got 10k views in a month. Moved up to the Avermedia live gamer portable, took me 4 months to finally catch a break with Nascar PC beta gameplay.
Now have over 1500+ subs, 1.3 million views, couple review copies sent my way, and a partnership with people I play with regularly.
Agreed, I picked this up on a whim cause I wanted to see how easy it was to use and for the most part it is a decent device. That said I also picked up an Elgato which I'm going to review and likely use as my goto device. If the PVR Rocket only did 1080p @ 60 fps, then it would be best out there. The ease of use is fantastic and you don't even need a laptop/computer to use.
