Rumor - Wii Fit sells 650,000 copies in NA on first day

In most instances, Nintendo sales figures are generally accepted only when Nintendo reports the numbers themselves. VGChartz reports, however, that Wii Fit has sold 650,000 copies in its first day in the market, providing Nintendo with $60 million. Although it allegedly did not perform as well as Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit had a stellar first day performance nonetheless. Given the popularity of Wii Fit, the 650,000 mark is not out of the question, though it's best to take this bit of news with a grain of salt until Nintendo confirms this news.

Why? I'm wondering, it isn't like it got great reviews, was very useful, or anything. Why are people buying this over metroid prime 3, or any other game..

The people buying it don't read reviews. They watch shows like the view and once its recommended there its a sure buy. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold that much the first day seriously.

"Why are people buying this over Metroid Prime 3...." thats a very good question. I think the answer is honestly that gamers are not buying the Wii. Women are buying it, parents are buying it for young children, and men are buying it for their girlfriends/wives or just because its a fad. I'm still tempted to buy a Wii for a few games like metroid, super mario galaxy, and zelda, but I think that over time titles like those will disappear on the Wii and will be replaced with nothing but games like wii fit, wii sports and carnival games. I grew up playing nintendo, so when I see something like wii fit, I also have to sigh.

You called the Wii a fad, despite of the fact that it has outsold both PS3 and X360 every month worldwide since it's release one and a half years ago, IIRC. May I ask you what is a short time in console related discussion, or is it simply defined as the time which Wii is popular? Will the Wii ever be called a success instead of fad by PS3 and X360 gamers?

And just what do you mean by saying Wii Fit buyers are not gamers? Do you have a new definition for the word game? The Free Dictionary defines video game as "an electronic or computerized game played by manipulating images on a video display or television screen." Fits to Wii Fit well.

Wii Fit is not only about doing exercises, but also about getting advice, tutoring, encouragement and stats, which help people keep on doing more exercises. Also, the game includes minigames such as ski jumping and high wiring, which are not exercises everyone can just go and do outside.

They won't stop making senseless violent games with lack of new concepts (GTA IV anyone) and yet that crap sold like one billion games combined from 360 n ps3. stop being whiny choir girls and go freaking play a real game and leave the casual gamers alone. Greatest game of all time (arguably) is Ocarina and yet people are getting sick and tired of that game being on top, but there it is because it was great. was it hardcore??? hell no. not compared to CoD4 or or any crap on the PS3, but you cannot argue the greatness of Nintendo's rehash franchises. Nor can you make people stop trying to "excercise." those same idiots whining about the wii fit were also the same lame wads who think they are rock stars because they couldn't handle strings so instead opted to push six buttons.
