Sony to go ahead with OLED investment

Sony will go ahead with plans to invest approximately 22 billion yen (US$210 million) to strengthen its lead in the production of medium- to large-size OLED panels in the second half of 2008, according to Yoshito Shiraishi, general manager, e-products and business development department of TV business group, Sony.

As far as I am concerned, Sony has a reputable name in the Entertainment industry and their products are generally of sound quality. If they feel its the right way to go, by all means I am all for it. Just drop the prices of the current stuff :D!

I say this as a general consumer, with no knowledge of the tech whizz that audio visual savvy people may have.

Good call. OLED demand will probably shoot up since everything CRT is being completely phased out. Perhaps with the investment and development the OLED lifespan can be increased to match the LED lifespan (roughly 11 years).

Space and energy saver. OLEDs are doing the same thing that florescent lights did for the incandescent light bulb.

Just tell me when they're coming. Question is do I go for a 5080 build or blow the cash on something I'll probably never fully utilise like a 5090? Heart wants 5090 but brains telling me 5080 will be fine.
