What's the future of games at Epic Games?

Epic Games, the creators of Unreal Tournament, Gears of War and the Unreal Engine, has earned something of a reputation over the past few years: It's not a studio making video games with the fervor it once was.

good to here some news on a title using unreal 4.. see what they can do with there own engine

apparently no games. The sold Gears, have no interest in picking there old and best franchise Unreal Tournament back up, and Fortnight fell into Oblivion with no word since its reveal.

Epic haven't really attracted my attention as a publisher. I don't think I ever purchased an actual 'Epic' game. Tons of titles use the Unreal tech, so they make their money as middleware vendors.

Epic's flagship game's have been the Gears series, which I couldn't relate to due to the games being too male-centric. The lack of 'Games4Girls' is the reason I sold my launch 360 console after 1 year.

At least COD Ghost's (finally) has a female character select, but BF4 is the better game IMO, yet no female character select. I hope female characters are better represented in future games, much like TLOU does now.

Both Gears of War 3 and Judgment had female character selection.

candy_mafia3706d ago

It took 3 games spanning 4 or 5 years. You seriously think I sat twidling my thumbs for Gears 3?

...thanks for reply, but my point stands :)

Girls seem to be difficult to put into most types of games. If you put a woman into a war game and shes nervous or makes mistakes people complain on the other hand if you give her a strong presence and ability to over come obstacles people say god another badass military chick.

Utter rubbish! Sorry but what you typed is lame....and I'm outta bubs, so can't reply to whatever dribble you spew out.

Thanks for the reply though....yup ;/

Epic Games Faces $1.2 Million Fine Over "Unfair Practices," Plans to Fight Back

Epic Games is facing a $1.2 million fine by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets over "unfair practices" in the Fortnite shop.

Sciurus_vulgaris5d ago

It might be cheaper to simply pay the fine. Fighting said fine could cost millions due to court and lawyer fees. Fortnite generates well over a 100 million in each month, so Epic has plenty of cash.

franwex5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

But if they did pay it, then they are basically admitting that they did something they weren’t supposed to be doing. If they fight it, they may win and continue to have a sense of urgency for their micro transactions thus making more money long term.

Goodguy015d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Meaning more suits to follow from others if they don't fight as well.

Not a fan of Epic nor fortnite and their micro transactions. But the game is heavily supported and is free to play, all store items are completely cosmetic.

I'd fight back too. These are kinda meaningless reasons to fine someone like really for THAT. It's like they just wanted to make money or something.

There is a law for something, but even if its stupid follow it because if you break it you pay for it; if they knew they cant place a “buy now” in NL then just dont do it!

Why Epic's Win Against Apple And Google Paves The Way For The Future Of Mobile Gaming

Epic Games winning its cases against both Apple and Google is shaping the way forward for the future of mobile gaming.

shinoff218368d ago

I feel alot of mobile gamers are kids which will at some point probably turn to console or pc. Mobile gaming just doesn't cut it for me.

AlterRecs67d ago

tru dat, but i feel like it's gonna be a lot more viable for people who travel a lot or don't want to invest in a full gaming rig. Think of it as a Switch on drugs, with a LOT more room for free illegal downloads.
