Review: Infamous: Second Son | Battle Screen

Battle Screen's Gregory Edwards reviews Infamous: Second son, stating "For all of its missteps and its surprisingly empty open world, Second Son is a fun game, and an excellent showcase for what the PS4 is capable of. The foundations for something special are more apparent than they’ve ever been in the series, Sucker Punch just needs to learn how to really take advantage of everything they have at their disposal, and if they ever make a sequel starring Delsin, I’ll be more than happy to play that."

Good review. Before everybody gets pissed off with the 7.5 of 10 maybe read the end of the article"

Sucker Punch has nailed character interaction, now if only they could get everything else down quite as well."

WOW, I am surprised that Infamous has a lower review score than Titanfall....very surprised. I thought this game would be 90+ before the release

gooney1213704d ago

Yeah, it's definitely a very fun game, just not all it could be. Really hope they make a sequel though that could reach its potential!

Irishguy953704d ago

Well, while I liked the first 2 alot I thought they didn't deserve the scores they got either. Games are scored too easy these days.

bleedsoe9mm3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

titanfall is a better game and i absolutely loved the 1st infamous

thorstein3704d ago

Wait, so you guys actually go around commenting on threads of one game about a different game that isn't even similar, (one is SP the other MP) but also is not even on the same platform?!?!

Wow. Hey, let's look up the "New Yoshi's Island" reviews and compare it to Civilization 5! That will make ton of sense.

bleedsoe9mm3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

@thorstein commenting on someone being shocked that titanfall has a higher metacritic score than SS . i'm not shocked by this but i'm also not a crazy fanboy , infamous was my favorite of last gen and i enjoyed titanfall more than SS

PONTIAC08G8GT3704d ago

Titanfall and inFamous are completely different games. Who cares what Titanfall got? Majority of inFamous scores are in the 8's. Titanfall was high 8's so it's not a big difference.

bleedsoe9mm3704d ago

ss probably got a score bump because reviewers were afraid of fanboy backlash

StraightPath3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

Titanfall - 86% Metacritic

Infamous Second Son - 80% Metacritic

Pretty good review Infamous is a good game still waiting for PS4 games to arrive. Titanfall killer app for Xbox one though :)

chiswiz3704d ago

the game score a 80 on the critics side, but it got a 86 on the user score(the final user and the one that buy the game and play it for a long time, and the one that crush modern warfare 3 for example), and titanfall get a 61 on the user score, and the users said that the game becomes too repetitive afther the 5 or 6 first hours, and that the game is designed for casuals and average people that does not want to feel like noobs in the battlefield (that one is a true war game that reward perseverance killing real people)

thorstein3704d ago

It is a 90+. I wouldn't give it a 10 because there were some clipping issues early in the introduction. After that small snafu, the game becomes so engrossing!

I am not a 100% complete player. I play the story and move on, USUALLY. The beauty of this title (yes, I used that word purposely) isn't just the graphics, it is the engaging world in which Delsin lives. But, there is a reason I don't just go through the story, it is because the DUP actually are so antagonistic that I feel a compulsion to eradicate them from every nook and cranny of Seattle.

I haven't had such a fun experience since I played Last of Us. This game is superb. And, yes, SP can build on it!

Please stop right now...This game is not below an 8.5. Beautiful graphics, and super fun. Sorry, never heard of "battlescreen.net".

combolock3704d ago

then why is the average at an 80 on metacritic? That means the majority don't agree with you.

Palitera3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

Agree(0) | Disagree(4)

I am one of these 4. I love the series, but the last entry is not as great as the other two. (despite being still good)

RyanShutup3704d ago

Wholeheartedly disagree man, I've platy'd the other two infamousness and this one is leagues above them. The variety of powers alone and fun ways to traverse the city give this one the edge, add in enemy ai, boss battles, gameplay and story and it's no contest.

This game is the best in the series hands down in my opinion.

Eldyraen3704d ago

I probably wouldn't give it a 7.5 myself but can see why some might. I don't see how it could honestly be given its lowest scores as there is a difference between what I consider reviews (technical/story/gameplay merits) and opinions (if they like it which lower scores are more prone to be unless the game is literally broke).

Silly gameAr3704d ago

@combolock

That has always been my beef with metacritic. Reviewers can easily overscore or underscore games to affect the rating. The only opinion that you can truly trust is your own.

Also, what does he mean by empty world? I just dont get it. Everywhere i turn im running into civilians and traffic in the streets. Its almost impossible to not hurt an innocent bystander getting caught in the crossfire. if it were more populated than it is, it would not be fun to play.

gooney1213704d ago

Oh, when I say empty, I mean there's not much to do in it. There's not much side stuff and it's mostly pretty repetitive, sadly.

combolock3704d ago

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the limited variety of minigames and other things to do in the world.

DawnOfDon3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

He means there is nothing to do in the world. It is not a lifelike living world (like watch dogs), when you use your powers the people just stand there and don't react what so ever. The game is good but more of a graphical master piece, the other Infamous games were better

Edit: Also what combolock said

SoulSercher6203704d ago

I disagree about the lifelike part. Here are the reasons why it IS lifelike:

When you use your powers with a crowd of people around they WILL run away.

If you save someone or have Hero status they will praise you.

If you're Infamous they will attack you.

If you subdue someone or kill them they will surround the person and look at him or take pictures.

The people will use the scanning stations you haven't destroyed yet.

These were several things I noticed when I played the game and I'm not sure if this is all of it but the world is definitely living.

GravelerMagnitude93704d ago

i threw 3 ps4 on the shelf at the target i work at this morning. im shocked nobody called about them. the days we dont have them is when people call

inFAMOUS Second Son was one of PS4's best exclusives, but does it hold up a decade later?

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM124d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck124d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati123d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos124d ago (Edited 124d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88155d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183154d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie154d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.
