The PS4, although a great system, is lacking exclusive titles. This may somewhat be forgiven due to the fact that it has only been out for 4 months, but will Infamous: Second Son start an upward trend in the release of PS4 exclusives?

Every launch has been a sort of "wait till the games drop" sort of situations for gamers, but this one has surprised me. It seems the PlayStation brand has sold the console itself, by itself. I'm not saying there's nothing great to play on it because there is but you can clearly see the exhaustion of last gen consoles in the sales of these consoles. A lot of people, like me, were just tired of their 360's and Ps3's. Both great console in their own right, but it had been too long I think. And with them selling so well out of the gate you'll see games come out much faster because developers feel they can pull the trigger on the big ideas they have. Both sides are equal and more games are coming very soon in 2014. If you followed past generations, this is how it has always been, slow start then in the 2nd or 3rd year you see a huge amount of games come out. Actually, this generation is better than the last. Last gen was filled with many sports games at launch, this year we had a wide variety of games to choose from. And every month since launch, there was a great game to play, it's not as bad as people try to make it look if you compare generations. Just give it some time then you can talk about if the PS4 has a lit candle or not compared to the competition.

I wonder if people were around during the PS3s launch, since I constantly see articles stating that the PS4 is lacking exclusive titles at launch. Well that was the exact same case for the PS3, but now take a look at it. It is the best console with a large variety of amazing exclusives, it still is supported by Sony and is receiving further exclusives. I bought my PS4 last week, I understood that I won't be receiving a ton of exclusives straight away. However, the PS4 will be supported longer than the Xbone and Wii U and will eventually receive a large variety of exclusives in around 2-4 years. The same thing goes with other consoles.

Sony has been on such a dominating roll this new generation going all the way back to last years E3. Successful launch, sold out through the holidays and continued to maintain worldwide sales dominance even 5 months later.

People need something to complain about to keep the console war interesting. Thats fine, the sales numbers speak for themselves. Gamers wouldnt keep selling out a system if it had no games worth playing. Common sense.

And before anyone says "they aren't exclusive" please check out the PSN store and PSN+ offerings. If any other platform was simply passing off old re-releases as new offerings they would be hung in todays internet madness! I could get Don't Starve for £0.99 in the last Steam sale for example.

The issue here boyscout299 is that you have basically disregarded what Sony is trying to do to fill the launch drought gap. These titles that you kind of dismiss, from the PS+ deals, are meant to fill the gap. The F2P games that have been offered are meant to fill the gap. This has been the BEST launch, in terms of content, that I have ever seen. Sure, the "AAA" exclusives were lacking up front. But, this is a known commodity with launches. A console can survive on big titles for only so long. At some point, the coffers run dry. Then what? Well, you fill the gaps until the next big release or you starve your audience to death. When you point out a single console, its an implied comparison. Saying something lacks something is implying that something else already has something. Otherwise, what is the base number of "acceptable number of big budget exclusives"? Something to consider: PS4 launched with 2 big budget exclusives. Knack and Killzone. Most consoles don't average 1 such game per month. Now we are 4 months in, and there are 3 big budget exclusives. It seems awfully sufficient to me. XB1 also seems to have it nailed down as well, (including the strategic delay of titanfall for the 360) XB1 users got dead rising, forza, and that rome game. been kinda dead since until titanfall. tl;dr the author had good intentions, but wasnt thinking it through enough IMO. keep working at it.

I m regretting being an early adopter because I am missing out on Dark Souls 2 and I have been itching to play Gears of war again, so I am getting some money together to buy another 360. Don't want to diss Titanfall - but it really is YAS - yet another shooter; and not X1 exclusive. Mechs are cool and all, but I already have 3 shooters on the PS4 and one is CoD where I wasted $60 on. Titanfall is Xbox's Warhawk and sure not a platform defining game. Heck, it's online only. It should not cost more than $40.

I agree that the big hitter - exclusives - are missing; yet. But I actually don't buy a console for the exclusives. I want the best games on the best platform and there is where it delivers. The 1 or 2 exclusives are nice but not enough for me to go either way. And tbh. inFamous blows everything else what I've seen so far out f the water - and thank god it's not another shooter. Thief just came out, Watchdogs in a month, the best demo ever, MGS5Pre. Only thing I miss is a racing title - NFS isn't a real racer. Both platforms have about the same amount of games; if you add the indie titles the PS4 dwarfs the X1. And I sure don't understand where the X1 has a better line up - none of those are next gen - not even Rise (after you ignore the pretty cut scenes).

Well, in response to your final question...
When I think of a game that defines a console, I'm talking the game that we automatically think of when we think of that console. For most people, Halo: CE is that game for the original Xbox. For The X1, given all the hype surrounding Titanfall and the overall high scores, I would wager to say that (at least for the time being) this is the console defining game, and has been since it was revealed.

As for Infamous: SS... that remains to be seen; after all, it did launch today to less fanfare than Titanfall did.

As I said, if you define a console by ONE experience then you will be left waiting over and over again for that one experience. That's a sad life for a gamer. Playstation, since 1994, has prided itself on diversity of it's catalog. So, there is no "console defining" experience in and of itself. Taken as a whole, you can trust that Sony will support a console with exclusive games from one of it's 20+ 1st party studios for the life of the consoles. Currently there are over 40 games to be played on PS4 including: indies, F2P, exclusive, and 3rd party. THAT is what defines Playstation...not a singular title, but the ability to choose from a wide variety of gaming experiences.

As a owner of both consoles I feel that your comment is no better than the authors article...How did TitanFall not live up to the hype? According to reviewers and metacritic TitanFall is a better(score wise)game than Infamous Second Son.
I bought both and apparently as many people aren't platform agnostic like me here's all the info you need to know...TiatnFall and InFamous are both absolutely incredible games. Well worth buying either system for.

And you should look and customer feedback on that game, wether it be Amazon or any other source, titanfall most definitely fell short of its hype

I get what you are trying to say but i was wondering were you around when the PS3 had the exact same issue. People were saying 'it had no games...blah blah blah'. Look at how that has turned out, there are now too many games to play on it.

Lets be honest here. Sony manage to sell there system by hyping and marketing. And all I hear is negative news on XB1 and WiiU when in fact they have the games available. What games are people buying the PS4 for.. Knack 54? Killzone SF 73? Infamous SS 80? probably but you look at the other library's and its weak. Fanboys follow companies blindly believing there getting the better system when in fact the PS4 has the least amount of quality AAA games available. WiiU has tons of great AAA games and so does XB1 yet people are buying PS4 based on faith they will deliver.

Its sad, but ill be waiting before Ill be purchasing a PS4 until NG or a great AAA game makes it to the market. At this point I see hype for a system that could fall hard on its sword if it doesn't deliver.

Those games are not exclusive to sony. Watch dogs, destiny and pc free to play does not offer much. I did get infamous and its boring as you go over the same area over and over until you get rid of the police prescence. Some of the power ups are good but we have allready played this game and a much better version. Sony needs a killer title and they do not have have and seem complacement to play sales right now and that may be costly in the future. Competition is good and sony needs ps4 to keep there company alive so I expect a big e3.

Don't forget that Mlb: The Show, is exclusive to Playstation (it's on the PS3 as well.) The PS4 version is coming in May. I agree there hasn't been a lot of AAA content released for PS4 since launch but that's typical for a newly launched console. Thankfully, I still have plenty of games to play on my PS3, 360, 3ds and Vita so it's not bothering me too much. Just got Infamous SS and played it a for few hours - it's freaking awesome and is exactly one of the types of games I bought the PS4 for. I like sp third person action adventure and RPG games - the type of games Playstation has a history of publishing. I usually don't go for sports games but MLB: The Show is looking real good so I may purchase it.

Given the PS4s direct competition, and the fact it is only 4 months in to its life cycle, the ps4 doesn't have an Achilles heal.

The games will come, and the real gamers will own both systems :)

I don't get this article. PS4 has no problem at all. Sony owns some of the best developers out there. Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Guerilla Games, Guerilla Cambridge, Media Molecule, Santa Monica, San Diego, Sony Japan Studio's, Evolution etc. And on top of that we know it will get some exclusives by Ready at Dawn, Quantic Dream, etc...

PS4 owners are 100% sure they'll be getting exclusives created by these developers and then some... At least that's why I've bought my PS4. I would buy a Xbox if Microsoft would own as much developers that deliver the same quality games and not just buy (timed) exclusive games and DLC... They should get more franchises like GoW and Halo (or buy the developers)

The brand new system had been out for barely five months we have had two excellent exclusives, Killzone Shadow Fall and recently InFamous Second Son.

High quality triple AAA titles which I would argue any day outperform Titan Fall for me personally. It's a matter of preference.

You are unjustifiable targeting the new system on the market that had fifteen years of experience and back in it up with tons of great exclusive games.

Take a lessons from past three PlayStation consoles and you will understand this console always provided fantastic game to play only of PlayStation.
