Epic Games Shares a Demo of Unreal Engine 4 on a Nexus 5…It’s Unreal.

Above is a video of environments rendered on a Google Nexus 5 smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. The graphics are stunning and it’s hard to believe that we will find these sorts of experiences on a mobile or tablet device.

As the graphics on smartphones/tablets continue to evolve, expect to see a number of AAA developers jump on board and deliver high-end gaming experiences for iOS and Android.

Looks great, but I dont want to see any more developers leaving console development for Cell phone games. In my heart of hearts I want mobile gaming to drop in popularity so console gaming stays strong.

Just how many well known developers left console development for mobile gaming? I've seen plenty of developers expand to mobile while still making console games but not leave entirely and jump ship to mobile.

You do realize if mobile gaming drop in popularity it would possibly mean console gaming becoming too casual. Also given mobile game development is fraction of the cost console game development with less restrictions(one of the biggest reason why there are so many mobile game developers), its not going anywhere any time soon. Well known studios are making their engines available to mobile with hopes that more people will pay for engine license. So overall I would not worry about any well known developers jumping ship to mobile completely any time soon.

Well for a while everyone was pushing Nintendo to go mobile or go home. And more and more developer are going to notice that cell games cost very little to develop, in hopes of becoming the next "flappy bird". Why would a company invest millions on what may be a flop, if you can throw $100 at a college student and he can churn out the next Candy Crush?

I sure hope to god that never happens. Cell games just wont be the same without controllers. I hate the touchpad for replacing buttons. And your thumb covers most the screen. People are ready to shed blood if a console game is under 1080p/60fps, so for them to jump on board to a cell phone game would be quite daunting.

I believe things like VR is the true direct competitor to console.

When it comes to mobile, it has yet to plateau as devices, gadgets, and graphical power is going to improve. It will compete with eyes than consoles, mainly because of the accessibility.

Mobile gaming just opens the door to more gamers and also another medium.

Those that PC games, I'm sure they play on consoles as well. Those on console, play on mobile.

And there are a lot of people that never play games, are now playing casually on mobile.
