Well, I rented Ryse for the very same reason I am going to Gamefly my copy of inFamous, both are just standard AA action games. Was hoping inFamous is going to be something special in term of an action open world game but it looks like the same old inFamous/Prototype game with prettier graphics.

I bet this new inFamous is going to be loads of fun, that doesn't mean everyone HAS to enjoy it. I think he is one of the best reviewers out there, at least in his presentation, but sometimes his scores just don't make sense. Like Titanfall he mentions some flaws, says the campaign portions leaves something to be desired, then gives it a perfect score.

The thing is Lilchilltroll, second son is an amazing game as well as THE best console graphics to date, this is the first time I have been wowed this gen.

In June of last year he was very adamant about wanting 1080p 60fps to be standard, or atleast one or the other. Then the Xbox One comes along and he says it's all about gameplay and how graphics, resolution, and performance isn't everything.

Yeah, he did say 1080p/60 should be required on next-gen consoles. Unfortunately neither Sony or Microsoft were able to release a product that had the processing power to do so. And I don't care if the PS4 is more powerful because the fact of the matter is 1080p has been a standard for a LONG time, and BOTH Sony and M$ half-a$$ed their consoles to cut costs and increase profits at the expense of the gaming community and the coming generation of games that will never look better than PC games on Ultra these past two years. Titanfall-5/5 overlooks all problems with the game(refer to angryjoe review to see the problems labled ) gives the game a perfect score even tho a perfect means a game is almost flawless but we All TF is far from flawless.

I get the impression that Sessler often makes his scores his games based on personal issue with developer decisions.

In this case it would be Sucker Punch disallowing reviewer to even show the boss battles, and the 2 power acquired later.

I have a tendency to agree with him, if this was what affected his scoring.

A reviewer shouldn't have to withhold footage of half the games super powers in order for the player to have a valued experience. (of course within reason) I know previous inFamous titles, and Prototype as well, probably didn't showcase every power in the reviews, but I don't believe they were explicitly disallowed. And I also believe inFamous 2 reviews DID show a few the boss battles.

If the developer wants the game to be a surprise to the player then that's their choice. You should be able to review the core of the game without having to give out spoilers-if the developer says it's a spoiler they probably know best. Also if this is the case you don't review something lower just because you argued with the creator. That's wrong and VERY unprofessional. Also I'm playing second son atm and have been for some hours. I understand what he means by the slight lack of vareity in a way however also disagree, it doesn't feel repative in the same way that boarding ships in AC4 never really got too repetative and certainly was never boring. Plus the 2 different powers I have alone are mixing the gameplay up enough to make it feel fresh...

See that's my point, before Second Sons the powers and boss battles, in infamous 1&2, weren't considered 'spoilers' - and to have them be now kinda infers there is less in the game in terms of what would previously be spoilers.

I see how one could argue that disallowing reviewers to 'spoil' such basic aspects of the game - in attempt to keep the remain a surprise - is unprofessional. (cause it undermines the reviewer, and his purpose)

Honestly, Sessler 'getting personal' with his work - as unprofessional as it may be - is what I like in good journalist!

why shouldn't the developer prevent reviewers from giving away the story?? its better for consumers not to know the whole story before they play a game which they can make their opinion about based on reviews. The reviewer would be doing everyone a disservice in telling them what will happen and giving away all surprises to get more clicks. Your comment doesn't compute with me. Besides, I believe the developer has a right to protect his property from a reviewer who may not be all too fair, especially if he is the type of person who might take things personal as you are suggesting Sassler had done.

What I dont understand is why are Sony fans mad about certain scores! If you have a good score "oh its great, this that" if you see low score "oh theyre bias, they gave Titanfall a better score so we knew they were gonna give it a low score"...

Although I agree with what your saying, I have to ask where have you been since the beginning of this gen? It's apparently obvious that Adam Sessler has a slanted view against Sony in general! All last gen his reviews were skewed against Sony in general, this gen he created a big stink about not receiving a free PlayStation, he was a major player behind the recording options available on the PS4 before launch, he also spoke on the issues of resolution and frame rates. The majority of his arguments have been heavily slanted against the PS4, this is nothing new!

When he hosted the show X-Play with Morgan Webb, he always talked down the PlayStation platform, while Morgan Webb was alway there trying to soften the blow that Adam consistently dished out. You know what changed since then as far as Sony/PlayStation!? Nothing.

Yet we have those here saying that he doesn't deserve criticism, give me a break!

And I haven't played infamous SS but I have titanfall and it is not a 9/10 game it is a 8.5 and I would round down before round up if your on a whole point system. The game is really fun but lacking tons of content, basic thinga like character customization, more funs, mech colors or customization. Come on if 7 is good and 8 is above average whyare we giving a game without basic things its competitors have and it doesn't even have a singleplayer or bots. Rediculous/settling for less, for $40 I wouldn't be complaining but for 60 come on being fun does not justify a great game that is a 7-8, the content is and how its implemented pushes it to the great amazing catagory

The game media created hype. They created the console wars. They created a system where no one can really trust reviews when they complain about one thing one moment and forget all about it the next.

Titanfall and Infamous: SS are two COMPLETELY different games. Why would you get upset that he rated one higher than the other? In the end, it's his opinion. Because one game is an open world with tons of time and a big team put into it with a good story and complex but simple to use gaming mechanics and fantastic visuals. The other has a very basic and poor story added last minute to battle the online only rants, terrible visuals, no variety, rehashed gameplay from the past decade of shooters, and is very comparable to F2P shooters on PC, except it's a full priced multiplayer only game that wouldn't be so hyped up if not for being announced as an XBox exclusive.

Yes, I didn't just try it. I played it and it's as shallow as Call of Duty, no it's more shallow. Less content. If I want a full fledged online game I can play something that is more solid and requires more technique like Tribes: Ascend, which is free.

Sure, if you consider Call of Duty-type games fun. But, quality wise it isn't worth a 5/5. For someone like him that has so much experience to keep rewarding a saturated market as the FPS-run-around-aimlessly-and-s hoot-scene, but this time with idiot bots to rack up points and mechs that are stale and boring despite being the reason this game is hyped up. For him to label it a 5/5, a perfect score for a game lacking so much content, that is repeat after repeat of the same thing that is a very average experience, and InFamous a 3/5. TitanFall is an average experience, though it may be a lot of fun to some people, the experience will always be average. There needs to be a focus on a games quality, not the fun. People themselves have to determine how fun a game is themselves. When people say review scores don't matter it's the same argument. Obviously, Adam likes mindless online only shooters over a freeroam story driven singleplayer game. So he's going to be biased in that aspect. If he were to review the actual quality over what genre he likes more then it would be a lot different.

Yet, his definition of what is fun as opposed to what you'd want him to say is completely unacceptable to you. At the end of the day, the guy is just like any other gamer, with the difference being that he's being paid to put his likeness and opinions out there. This is the same logic that made the whole Polygon review of "Last of Us" debacle so ridiculous in the first place. I think TLoU was a great game but there was no denying that Polygon review made a lot of good points.

You say that Titanfall is an average experience and to me, the game is a breath of fresh air for the FPS genre and far above average with an exceptional level of polish on its control and gameplay. And these days, with games shipping in such incomplete states, I totally appreciate what Respawn delivered with Titanfall.

That right there, I'm sorry to say is a crap stance to take on games. It should ALWAYS be about the fun first above all. Too much fuss has been made over so called "quality" which is what exactly? You miss the point, every time. Ignore everything I just said. He didn't rate it based on any of the work put in to it and for what the game itself is. He rated it for not being as fun as another game. Maybe if it were a Naughty Dog game he would have changed his mind. One of the few Playstation games he rates good.

Look at Starhawk for PS3. Some of the most intuitive and solid games with a lot of creativity. It trumps Titanfall in everything and also has mechs. Oh, but it's not Titanfall, so it gets poor reviews for not being at the right place at the right time, or maybe for not being a generic online shooter for XBox, which is the only reason Live lives. No that's not ignorance, statistics prove that.

Yeah, it is. Although, thinking about it, they probably had the patch before they saw any reviews, because it takes time to do all that and reviews just came out. So, I assume they realized those issues were there and didn't have time to completely fix everything before the launch. So, they got it in the day 1 patch. It'll be cool if they give us some more stuff down the line, like maybe an advanced version of the UGC mission creator in the last game.

I think its more the point that the score is so dramatically different to every other score of 8s & 9s. Its also the fact the negatives he pointed out the have effected his score which is contrary to his review of Titanfall which he pointed out similar negatives but gave it a perfect score. I am currently playing both infamous and titanfall both games are equally fun in different ways neither deserves a 3 or 5 both shold be around 4.5.

As both a fan of Sony and Adam i would have to disagree. Adam is probably the man I respect most in the game news industry, I trust that this is how he really saw the game and he gave it a fair score based on his feelings.(I'm coming from the perspective of someone who dislikes Xbox quite a deal and has always had a love of the Nintendo and Sony platforms and games btw)

Having said that I'm gonna pick this game up and I'm still pumped. It is still early in the gen so I'll mark it up to that if the game is not up to SP standards(though if they do it again...).

First off, everyone is comparing Titanfall and inFamous (two completely different games).

Think about this, folks: even the Microsoft shills over at Polygon acknowledged it with an 8.5. Meanwhile, balanced, trustworthy sites like Game Informer also gave it an 8.5. Then, you've got sites that haven't even been counted in the Metacritic so far, like the 9.5 that DualShockers rated it.

Sometimes people have differing opinions. You crazies that think everyone who gives a score that YOU don't like is OBVIOUSLY taking money from someones pockets or carrying some weird grudge or bias need to seriously get you're heads out of your asses.

Adam Sessler gave Infamous a mediocre score, essentially saying the game is decent and probably worth playing if you like those games, but it could be better. One of his main gripes were the side missions being a little weak, i would agree that was the case on previous games despite enjoying them, and the combat gets repetitive, and the game doesn't do much different from the other Infamous games for him. These are fair points Not everyone loves the same things as everyone else and some people will get tired of certain aspects of a series. It's ok for someone to have a different opinion than you.

Just last night I had a conversation with some friends about how much they dislike the elder scrolls series despite the fact that I absolutely love those games. They actual cited Infamous as an open world game they preferred over something like Skyrim or Oblivion. Are they ignorant fan boys of some sort? No, they are gamers with different tastes an opinions.

I don't want to sound like I'm hating on him but I have 2 big issues with this review...

1) I've never heard so many contradictions in a single review. Every single point he makes without exception says 'this' is brilliant, but then follows it up straight away with a comment of how bad it is as well - It was the most confusing review I've ever heard including some truly bizarre & completely irrelevant ideologies... & what's with the plain oatmeal comment??

I like language & like Russell Brand as a perfect example this guy seems to be really trying to achieve that same intellectual coherency but at the same time by what he says shows to his audience that I don't think he actually understands what he's saying as it's just mindless contradictory ramblings to pad out time.

I can see this being a rough average score. It was a little worrisome when IGN and PSNation...places that normally hand out 10s for PS exclusives like it's mandatory both gave the game a 9. Still a very respectable score, I'm sure that it will live up to the reviews in that the gameplay will be very fun, but that the story isn't engaging and easily forgettable. That being said, anyone thinking that this game won't sell like crazy is delusional. Pretty much EVERY review of the game has said it is the best one in the series, & for me, both previous games have been 9/10 AAA games, so if SS is the best of the batch, then it will be a 9.5/10 scoring game for me, regardless of any other idiots opinion. This series has always been WAAAAY underscored by most reviewers, as is evidenced if you take a look at some of the criminally low scores the previous 2 PS3 titles received.

As a fan of this IP, I can't imagine I'm going to be disappointed by this game, as once you start playing these games & get into them, they become highly addictive & fun.....

Looks at the facts: He considers Titanfall, a game that definitely has crappy AI 5 stars yet here he complains about the AI even though it is much better than thatXbone exclusive. He complains that the Seattle is not interesting and yet we all know how much work Sucker Punch put into the city context. Should it matter so much where the game takes place anyway as long as the gameplay is fun and exciting?

Last gen Sessler made sure that he pointed out any differences between the 360 and PS3 version of multi-platform titles no matter how miniscule they were or even if they could be disputed, always in the favour of the 360. In the run up to this gen, he was adamant that resolution was important and that 1080p, 60fps was the benchmark that had to be met yet when his favorite console failed to meet these same benchmarks, Sessler started telling us that none of this mattered.

He thinks his score is 'in line' with the scores that game has been getting but the fact is that nearly over 50 scores so far are over 80 and nearly 15 of these are over 90. Sessler's was the lowest score or one of the two lowest. I suspect by tomorrow most scores will be over 80, many well above. Hardly 'in line' is it?

If it wasn't for the fact that he has some influence over some gamers one would not give a damn about what Sessler writes or talks about as he clearly favours Xbone and is obviously biased. But what he is doing is a disservice to developers who have tried to give us a decent game to enjoy by potentially affecting purchasing decisions of gamers by instilling doubt unnecessarily.

IMO, having owned this and Titanfall, and Dark Souls 2(hint dark souls 2 was the best game this week EASILY) Titanfall and Infamous failed to impress me.

Story of Second Son is subpar, but if you like infamous games, definitely go out and buy it because it plays brilliantly.

As for Titanfall, god...it's fun, really fun. But the weapons are really shit, maps are underwhelming and for fuck's sake, the game modes are a god damn joke.

What a shock. Funny how this news is top of n4g this morning. How come there is no infamous gets 9 out of 10 reveiws up. Which it is also getting. I will tell you why. Because that would not get you all worked up like this one does. Everyone goes on about click bait. Which is exactly what this site is doing. I don't think Sessler is some kind of paid troll but I do completely disagree with him so far with this game. Admittedly I've probably played less than two hours so far but so far I couldn't be more impressed. I really feel like this is the first properly 'next gen' game I've played. I must have already smoke dashed into a couple of hundred vents and it's still fun every time. The entire thing really feels so pleasurable to control in a way the previous games never did to me.

The few missions I've done so far have been so much more varied and fun than anything in the previous two games, which I felt could get a little tedious and bland with the missions now and then. The writing is far better than I thought it would be, they seem to have pulled off a similar thing to GTAV, somehow increasing the depth and impact of the writing while also refocusing it on fun above all else.

So far the best thing about it to me is that it feels like a superhero game in a way the previous games never did. Despite the comic book aspects of the first two infamous games I never got that feeling like I was a real superhero. I always just felt like one weird powered guy in a city of freaks and monsters and I never got that cool superhero moment of duking it out with another superhuman across the streets of a real feeling human city. I'm still very early in this game, the last thing I did was chase (very very mild spoilers, I guess) the neon conduit Fetch across the city. It was just a short sequence but it really felt like a cool superhero setpiece. It felt very X-men. Just something about the feel of this game overall feels much more Marvel comics than the previous two, which is a good thing in my opinion.

Maybe the game gets really boring and drags after a while but considering I wasn't even really dying to play this one all that much I'm loving it so far.

I don't understand why everyone puts so much weight on reviews and then turns around and blasts them for being useless.

Fantastic graphics. Average, good old last gen Infamous gameplay. One thing the review did get right is that Seattle is boring, they really should've used the fictionalized cities like the previous games.

Overall 3/5 is a very fair score.

In case you don't know, EDGE is the industry magazine written by developers, for developers. It's considered, internationally, to be the most intelligently written and least biased of all publications.

It's not the most widely read but it's the most admired.

Again, it is their opinion and people don't have to agree but EDGE's provenance speaks for itself. They aren't in anyone's pocket and they tend not to pick sides.

It's a great game and this score is an injustice, how he scored Titanfall above this is strange, have people give up on story driven games these days? FPS games are becoming to cancer of gaming, I can't help but wonder if reviewers just go with the flow for the sake of popularity.

Can I be honest without getting 1000 disagrees? I actually owned the last Infamous on the Ps3. Infamous has always been a c-level game. There is nothing wrong with that. You Sony fanboys get on here and hype things up. Its an average game same as the Killzone series. That is not a bad thing at all.

If you like the game why does it matter what Adam Sessler says. He is just one man with one opinion. If you read several reviews and they all hit on one negative thing (bad controls, glitches) then you might have a problem. WHo gives a fuck what critics think about a game if you like it?

Giving any game a rating 'out of five' is rubbish. That's like saying a game out of 100% can only get 20%,40%,60%,80% or 100%. Marks 'out of five' are a cop out. I've played this game today, and i think it's good. 3/5 from the little i've played wouldn't do it justice. Too much has went into it, to give it such a lazy mark. I think rating something out of 100 is probably the best indicator, or by scoring out of 10, with decimal points included.

May I ask you all to go back and see Adam's review of the first Infamous? He not only gave it a 5/5, but he raved about how perfect the game was. Infamous 2 comes out, he talks about tons of good things and a handful of bad things, gives it a 4/5. For someone who seems to have enjoyed this series so much I am surprised to hear anyone claim he is biased against it.

Something else everyone needs to keep in mind when comparing his other reviews to this one, *ahem Titanfall* is that he is not comparing games to one another. Reviews are meant to be conducted 50% in a vacuum, 50% relativity. Sometimes critics just stand back and say to themselves for what this game is as shallow or a grandiose it may be, what it does it does very well. Forget what other games are doing or have done, at the end of the day could you not stop playing it? Was it a chore to complete? Did subtle glitches and bugs take me out of the game so much that I couldnt possibly enjoy it?

At the end of the its just one mans review, you can take it or leave it. Your opinions are just as warranted as his, if you are going to let a review sour your mood that much you have much larger priorities to get in order before you should even consider getting online and writing a comment.

And before I get accused of being either an "Xbot" or Sony fanboy, I will leave you with this. My two favorite games of the previous generation are, Gears of War and Uncharted 2 *gasp* I know, crazy right? I like games for the amount of fun I have playing them, not the name printed in the top corner of the box it came in. Grow the F up people, its a game review.

Indeed bud, but his review at this point is highly suspect. I am surprised, even if he is a Micro shill, that he wouldn't just go the 4/5 route an downplay the game in a review but he clearly wants attention no doubt about it. This game is in no way a 3/5.

Technically, I am sorry but there is nothing to match this game at this point in time on consoles and nothing comes close but KZ or Ryse. The gameplay for me is fantastic and again better than any other AAA game out here atm. Only the side missions leave something to be desired. That certainly don't make this game a 3/5 lol.

It's just become a little weird. He is giving games like Forza 5 and Titanfall perfect scores. It doesn't add up. Both of those games are heavily flawed and someone like Sessler never even said one word about Forza's cashgrab online system? Yeah.... SHILL.

Anyone who has played ISS knows the game is frickin' amazing and will only get better with DLC. A 3/5 is a laughable but this guy thinks he is a rockstar. Infamous blows its prequels out of the water in every damn category. God man, the 1st one looks like complete garbage next to this despite it still being a good game.
