Fondling – ESPN NFL 2K5

Out of date rosters.

Ken and Justin go back in time to see if 2K’s football game holds up.

Our Fondling video series lets editors play the games for your entertainment purposes. They come in many flavors, but all taste equally sweet.

Still the gold standard for football in my opinion. It was well before it's time. Here's hoping for competition in the market in the future.

PoSTedUP3700d ago

them half time reports. you know a dev is good when they make another dev buy the NFL license exclusively so they dont have to work hard.

PoSTedUP3700d ago (Edited 3700d ago )

and it was awesome bc we would gawk and go crazy over our awesome highlights just like it was a real football game.

and then play 4-player on Top Spin bc it was on the same disc :P.

RVanner_3700d ago

8 years on and the gameplay here still looks more realistic than the new madden. What a game.

Would love to see what NFL 2k14 would be like ...

TheBrit3700d ago

I agree - this was my favorite football game just like Links Golf was my favorite golf game even though I like the Tiger series.

I would love to see 2k make another football and Microsoft Studios make another Links Golf.

Has ESPN Ruined Sports Games

NBA 2K19 has caused quite a bit of trouble and heartache for fans, given its latest ad situation. But how did it get that far? Perhaps ESPN NFL 2K5 is the game that ruined all sports games forever.

ESPN can barely keep the lights on, they haven’t had influence in sports in over a decade let alone the gaming industry. Literally has nothing to do with Take Two and the NBAs ad partners

Crazy how this game is still the best when it comes to simulating real football. It's sad that Madden will never get competition.

thorstein3685d ago

Beat me to it. By far, one of the best games to have the NFL license. I am lucky to still have a Phat PS3 and so I can still (and do) play it.

Rivitur3685d ago

Isn't this still getting updated by the community on PC to this day?

SilverTuna3685d ago

I believe there were roster updates until a point, but I'm not sure if they still happen.

It's amazing to think that 2K5 is still selling new copies to this day.

DaGR8JIBRALTAR3685d ago

The greatest. ..still have my copy!

thisminetile3685d ago

Never got to play this, but I hear it was really good. I just HATE the fact that EA has exclusive rights to the NFL license. It's BS, really.

A game I really liked last gen was Backbreaker. I like the behind the shoulder cam, which made you feel like you were right there in the action. And the tackles looked great because of their collision engine. Sadly, it didn't do too well because they weren't allowed to have the real teams.

iceman063685d ago

As a FULL game, Backbreaker was pretty bad. HOWEVER, there were elements of that game that were SUPERB! The physics that drove that game were AWESOME. The collisions that were created, and physics driven, were unique each and every time. I liked it because it was so different. However, I wonder if a developer with more knowledge of the sport (they were completely NEW to football) would have gotten a hold of it, what could have been? I give props to the devs of Backbreaker, because they were TRYING! Madden seems to have just stopped trying. They keep selling football...one piece at a time. Oh, and cherry picking 2K5 for "new" ideas. LOL

thisminetile3685d ago

Yea, I agree. It could have been a better game if it had devs, or maybe was just a more fleshed out game. Still, I think it would have benefited from the NFL license. And those tackles were awesome, lol.

Def. the best football game ever. Such good memories playing this with my best friend. We use to keep a notebook of our games win loss and whatnot, I think we played over 200 games lol.

“EA’s Madden does not represent my NFL” – says ex-NFL Linebacker Johnny Rutledge

Last week, ex-NFL Arizona Cardinal and Denver Bronco, Johnny Rutledge, posted a tweet saying that, as an NFL football player, Madden does not accurately represent the sport of football. With the help of Ryan Moody (a.k.a. Shutdown Safety), we bring on Johnny to clarify his viewpoint and talk about his relationship with the NFL, Madden football and the awesomeness of video games.

Madden is pure garbage and it doesn't represent how the sport is played in real life

badboy7763827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

Micro$oft Has Partnered up with EA Games. And Microsoft is now Partners with The NFL to support Windows 8 and Xbox One etc.. and of-course EA wants to Keep the NFL License exclusive. S0 I don't see NFL 2K returning anytime soon unless you consumers wake-up and just stop purchasing the Madden Franchise!!!!! Like I stopped doing over a decade ago.

3-4-53827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

Sony is allowed to make their own NFL game..It's just other 3rd parties that can't.

If I were Sony I would make NFL Football 2016 and outsource the developement to 2k sports & Sony just publish it themselves.

There are ways around it.

Same applies to Microsoft & Nintendo as well.

DoublePlusGoodGames3827d ago

I whole heartedly agree with you that Madden hasn't been doing anything to improve because they have zero competition in the space. All Johnny is asking for is an even playing field so that gamers can get an improved football/NFL product.

TrueJerseyDevil3827d ago

Madden 25 is a good step for the franchise, there is need to improve hopefully the next generation will help evolve madden into a better game

gedden73827d ago

About time a Ex NFL player spoke the truth about that damn game.

DoublePlusGoodGames3827d ago

Johnny mentions that EA showers NFL players with games, perks and other items so that they quell any resistance.

stavrami3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

not real enough ??? ha iv'e never played any game that simulates like it's meant to .cod or any fps for example people run around like idiots shooting things and "apparently" i play the game wrong because i camp ?? if i was stuck on a battlefield with a bunch of idiots that played fps games i would shoot myself and get it over and done with. games will never capture the 100% feeling but it does not mean they are not fun i think people expect to much tbh

i mean if you want it to play like you do you should enter the matrix and upload your brain pattern to it

Khajiit863827d ago

This guy played 5 seasons and had barely 40 tackles. Lets wait til someone good says something. Madden is not great but what game is truly realistic and plays like real life? I cant name 1. 2k was a hell of a lot more fun but it was far from the real thing.

310dodo3827d ago

Its a video game. LoL
You want the "NFL experience", go try out for a team!!

hahahah
