It's not always this way. Being a Metroid fan only sucks sometimes. Other times, we're lucky enough to be fans of a series that releases Best Game Ever-caliber material. Unfortunately, other times we hit a dry spot. Like now. How does it suck? Let us count the ways...
One of the biggest TV and movie tropes in the last decade has been the multiverse, the idea of exploring multiple dimensions to uncover alternate versions of existing ideas. From both a business and creative perspective, it makes sense why established franchises are shaking things up in this way.
However, there aren't many video games latching on to this trend, as rendering multiple worlds in real-time is a difficult feat and the medium is relatively young in comparison to its contemporaries, making crossover opportunities more difficult. Still, there are a few great titles that manage enough to overcome these challenges, and here are some of the best examples.
While I love someone mentioning Planescape, not really multiverse. Planes and dimensions, yes. But, they are typically their own locations and are very rarely tied to another 'verse' let alone another plane. The only things that are directly tied are the ethereal and material planes. Otherwise, they are dimensions created of their own design and goals by the creator/owner and not comprised of 'their own version of another dimension'.
Metroid Prime is a detective game at heart, and the Scan Visor is Samus' trusty magnifying glass.
With Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty coming soon, it's time to look back at the developer's greatest triumphs...and one oddball favorite.
This guy doesn't seem like a Metroid fan at all. I wasn't that enthralled with the first MP installation, but the ones after were great in my eyes.
"Rehash" definitely can't be said about the Metroid franchise. There were 2 different games developed on WiiU's predecessor, that is hardly a drought.
What a wonderful article? I enjoyed it really. Generally, I agree that "sucks" to be a Metroid fan as we see very very rarely the games of the series and I agree that last Metroid was at 2006 with echoes.
Other M was just a great game to play, not a great Metroid. Between Metroid and DK Country, I would prefer Metroid games from Retro even if i am a big DKC fan. I think, Retro knows very well to develop Metroid games....
Being a Super Metroid fan sucks, because all the "Metroid fans" care about is Prime-style FPS.
Dry spots.....try being a big Half Life fan
Still thirsty....7 years later.
I think this guy is just being a cry baby
