IGN: Wii Fit Review

IGN don't think Wii Fit is a perfect game or workout tool by any means. The BMI issue is unfortunate and IGN think it might've been fixed with a little Nintendo ingenuity. The game doesn't provide a proper workout routine for those serious about getting fit. And some of the challenges are better than others. A couple of them don't even use the Balance Board, for example -- you'll pop the Wii remote in your pocket and run in place for some of the aerobics exercises, an inclusion that seems incredibly forced.

But even with these issues, Wii Fit is a really innovative non-game that not only features a robust list of exercise programs and games, but creates an environment in which working out is less daunting and as a result enjoyable -- fun, even. And I guarantee you, if you really want to lose weight with Wii Fit, you can do it, just as you can build and tone muscle. That a videogame has finally crossed that barrier is impressive. That it makes working out an entertainment is more commendable still.

Exactly. The wii has a very wide mass appeal that from what i have seen most people that are buying it are not really gamers. Heck. My older sisters that haven't touched a game controller since SNES days have bought wii's just for wii sports and because they heard from their friends that it is must thing to have for parties.

Hmm... he makes a good point about not being able to see the TV during particular exercises. Trying to keep your head up while doing push-ups can definitely put some strain on the body, so hopefully the audio helps in that regard.

Does it work well? I haven't heard of anyone "famous" in the fitness world endorse Wii Fit. This might be on account they still want you to purchase Hip Hop Abs (hillarious infomercial), Yoga, Pilates DVDs, etc or because Nintendo doesn't want the cat out of the bag. I remember an article on n4g a little while back that had a real trainer test the game out, which had a few positive things to say about it. I want to know: "Can I lose weight with Wii Fit."???

And mario is still selling the world over and occasionaly peaks into the top10 or top 20. Nintendo's games have greater longevity on the charts i think. Brawl's already 4 million in usa alone. MArio is around 4 mil too i think.

I’ve been buying Wii games for me and the misses but then it get left in the corner, my wife play them for a few days then go back to playing Rock Band, so I won’t pay that amount of money for a just a few days.

when the price drops i may have to pick one up. i cant see getting one now with the lack of games for it. looks pretty good though.
