Kojima Wants to Reboot Silent Hill, but not Until He's Ready for Daily Nightmares

Rely on Horror: In an interview with Geoff Keighley, Hideo Kojima stated something that a lot of Silent Hill fans would no doubt freak out over if it came to fruition: a reboot of Silent Hill under his direction. When asked via a fan question what Konami series Kojima would like to reboot or direct himself, he quickly responded with "Silent Hill".

The only ones that can truly reboot silent hill are team silent themselves. Unfortunately most of team silent don't even work for Konami anymore. RIP Silent Hill

as long as it like SH 1-4 then I be happy the where the best Silent Hills.

MrSwankSinatra3704d ago

Akira Yamaoka was the soul silent hill, without him there is no silent hilli don't care who you have developing silent hill, whether it be Kojima or anyone else.

"Akira Yamaoka was the soul silent hill"

You have no idea how true that statement is. The music made those games. It was what really set Silent Hill apart from other survival horror games.

As far as Kojima "rebooting" Silent Hill, I have mixed feelings. Silent Hill, specifically 1-4, have some nostalgia that a reboot could kill or have a very hard time living up to. I feel that a Kojima Silent Hill while the gameplay may shine, the story and overall theme and atmosphere may suffer. I believe the last three things mentioned are the hardest challenges for anyone besides the original teams to match and overcome.

You gave point and counterpoint in the same comment. Reminds me of Zipper Interactive making SOCOM4, when most of those guys had nothing to do with the good SOCOMs.

Kojima is one of very few devs that would make me truly interested in a Silent Hill reboot, beyond just saying "I have low expectations but I'll keep an eye on this".

Kojima= best character build up
Do realize nobody makes more memorable characters than KojiPro. I think they would do a spectacular job on this.

SaturdayNightBeaver3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

Real fans know that. But i wouldn't mind if Kojima tries to do something with it. I believe he would know what to do. After all Downpour wasn't made by original silent hill team but i loved it and i think it was mostly OK.

Kojima pls. I have wanted this since ages.

on_line_forever3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

i have faith on Kojima to do this right

1 - take the horror from silent hill 4
2 - take the story from silent hill 1
3 - Akira Yamaoka must be involved in this (NO Akira Yamaoka then NO silent hill )
4 - fox Kojima engine
5 - if you do it Kojima you must play silent hill from part 1 to 4 you must feel what we want from silent hill the atmosphere Kojima the atmosphere dont forget it .

SaturdayNightBeaver3704d ago

Yea , the music and the atmosphere was like the half of silent hill games.Too many games went with that awfully generic orchestral hype building sound or the nonsense you can hear in latest Thief game , it crushes the spirit of the game in half...

Cut scenes by the dozens coming your way soon.

I Take it You Dont Like Great Story Telling? Maybe Stick to mindless shooting is more your style.

Linsolv3704d ago

Linear-narrative-driven video games are an oxy-moron. The medium is built from the ground up for nonlinear interaction-driven narrative. If you think that MGS is "great" storytelling and if you don't like it then you're only suited for "mindless shooting" then you've obviously never played an RPG worth playing.

Way to ignore most of video game history.

Activemessiah3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

@Lowsnamebrand No idea where you got that I like shooters, I mostly play platformers and fighting games.... would you kindly tell me where you that idea from?

CrossingEden3704d ago (Edited 3704d ago )

You would get laughed out of any college level writing class if you were to present Metal Gear Solid as an example of great storytelling. Don't even get me started on what someone like Yahtzee would say to you if you were to say that to him. Games like Metal Gear being considered great stories with great storytelling by gamers who have no idea how proper storytelling works are the reason why video games are still so far behind the film industry when it comes down to simple storytelling principles. In fact, Hideo Kojima seems to realize this himself, hence the reason why Ground Zeroes and according to him, Phantom Pain won't waste your time with overly long monologues and exposition that contains information that could be conveyed in a much smaller amount of time. The only metal gear game that I would consider passable in terms of storytelling would be MGS3, and that's only after if you consider everything in that game to be a satire of spy films with moments that are cringeworthy and supposed to be cool to be intentionally cheesy, like the bee man doing a flip when Snake reaches toward the sky when looking at Big Boss. Not to mention you also have to remove all of the overly long monologues.

Yes maybe. But it would be a worthy trade of: that would come in exchange of a level of quality and polish that has yet to be seen in this franchise, as kojima is an obsessive perfectionist. He is also a great storyteller, so there is that as well... ;)

MysticStrummer3704d ago

Awesome cut scenes by the dozens.

cla23704d ago

Silent hill always had a meta story behind everything that needed good insight to understand, Kojima's really the best to carry on that kind of message and to do that job. :)

Why Silent Hill Will Never Be the Same

Estelle Mejia says: Silent Hill, for those who don’t know, is a psychological horror survival series that has declined somewhat. Fans point to the fact that the original team who helmed Silent Hill 1-4, named Team Silent, has been split, either working on different games for Konami or leaving the company altogether. This has left the series without a consistent team to helm the series for about 20 years, give or take.
