"Don't Blame DotA 2 for Philippines Boy's Murder"

Jack Thompson will.

Dannycr3738d ago

Don't say his name. He's like Beetlejuice. It took a long time to get rid of him from the media.

KingPin3738d ago

is that idiot still relevant in todays times?

Filipino boy, not Philippines boy. That's like calling a German Germany boy, or an American America boy. But that's not the problem here.

I remember in Middle School, a lot of my friends used to sell and buy each other's Ruinscape accounts. We didn't go nuts over it though. Just a friendly punch if someone tried to hack your account.

I don't know how popular DOTA is in the Philippines, but there is a song made just for it. Search up "DOTA po ako" or something like that.

I just saw the video and it's the hacking of the DotA account is the root of the stabbing. It is not the fault of the game. There must be something wrong with the 16 year old if he did killed the 11 year old just for that. The website is saying that the video is blaming the game which is not the case. Obviously, the writer said that they don't understand what the newscaster in the video is saying.

I could probably translate as I understand a little bit of Tagalog, but I don't want want to watch it anymore. Video's too disturbing (and by that, I don't feel right watching the place where the boy died). But yes, the older guy definitely has problems. Does the game have micro transactions? If you put in hundreds of dollars into a game, and someone decides to hack it, of course you're going to get mad.

I'm just thankful that this didn't happen to me and my friends back when we were crazy on Runescape. Killing someone for a game is just too severe.

Narutone663737d ago

Cases like that are not uncommon in the Philippines. I've read news where a man killed another man over a basketball games. Another because of a 5 centavo change.

goldwyncq3737d ago

DOTA is to Philippines what Starcraft is to South Korea. It's not just a game - it's a way of life.

Bhuahahaha3737d ago

@narutone66

no not just in the philippines its happening all around the globe trhe world is all fucked up

why media always connect video games to these crimes

movies, tv, anime expose more violence to children
heck even drugs took for granted

Eonjay3738d ago

I submit that the person who stabbed this boy is the person responsible for his murder.

AnEwGuY3738d ago

OK....but I'm still blaming it's success for no L4D3 or HL3.

Those idiots who blame video games for violence should also blame money. Most crimes happen because of money so we should stop using it.

Valve: 'Smurfing Is Not Welcome In Dota', Bans 90,000 Accounts

Valve has spoken out forcefully against smurfing in Dota 2 after banning more than 90,000 accounts - and targeting their owners.

Fist4achin269d ago

Pardon my ignorance for never having played this, but why even have the ability to create multiple guest accounts? It seems if there is only one account per player then it would eliminate this smurfing issue.

sadraiden269d ago

Probably to get new players hooked on the addictive gameplay loop, more people playing = statistically more people buying battle passes.

Fist4achin269d ago

Makes sense and cents for Valve. Thanks

franwex269d ago (Edited 269d ago )

Why would seasoned players want to play with lower skill players anyway? Just to owned them? They’re n00bs, what’s the fun in that?

It’s like on COD where they do bad on purpose for a few rounds, to then be place with with bad players to then dominate.

SegaSaturn669268d ago

This is human nature. I know people who do this in Dota2, CoD and other multiplayer games. They enjoy the dopamine rush that winning generates.
