Thantalas3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

It's a clever move. The Xbone is currently £80 more expensive than a PS4 which has had a substantial impact on UK sales in comparison to the competition. But with this bundle and the included Titanfall download, it effectively becomes the same price as the PlayStation 4 and one game.

There seems to be a lot of interest in Titanfall, but it will also be released on 360 and PC, so I don't think the bundle will have as big an impact like it would if Titanfall was released on only Xbox One. But it will help.

Gazondaily3733d ago

Holy shiz! £400 plus Titanfall for free. They must be feeling the pain from strong Sony sales to do this so early.

Still, a good (and much needed) move by MS.

GutZ313733d ago

Not good move in the eyes of all the people that already bought the console full price in recent weeks.

jackanderson19853733d ago

@gutz price cuts happen in all forms of life on almost every product... it'd be like being upset cuz the tv you bought last week had fallen in price since... if you want a lower price wait till the price drops it always does no point complaining over something that everyone knew was coming but you (not saying you but the royal you) was too impatient to wait for

also good move by MS effectively makes the X1 the same price as a PS4 with titanfall bundled in (titanfall is 47 pounds on gamestop at the moment so £353 compared to 350 for the PS4)

xHeavYx3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

That's definitely going to move some units, I wonder if Sony will counter the offer somehow
@Above
Price cuts happen and it's a good move, but consoles don't drop their price so fast unless they are not selling well, I don't think there's been any other console that dropped the price drastically so soon after launching

stloony3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

A price cut this early is never a good sign for those wanting that system to prosper.

Maybe they can get some more sales from this, but people will still have to choose which system they want, and this price cut isn't enough to cut through the stigma that the Xbox currently has.

abzdine3733d ago

expect the same move in NA soon. if they trail so much behind in such a short time in their key territories post release it's over for them.

i still don't think it's cheap for what you get compared to the competition.

Eonjay3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

Okay I didn't realize the Xbox was 714.50 USD
So now its 666.2 USD.

PS4 is 581.26 USD.

hulk_bash19873733d ago

Even the WiiU didn't drop it's price until recently. But that is great news for people in the UK that have been waiting to take the plunge but have been holding back because of the price. And Titanfall looks like a fun game. Can't wait to get my PC copy next month. I wanted to grab it along with an Xbox One but I don't have the funds for one yet.

styferion3733d ago

@eonjay that's still good man, in my country PS4 is 650USD and XB1 850USD

@Gutz31 People have only themselves to blame.

christocolus3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

Feeling the pain or not. I think this move is a great idea cos kinect is still included in the box and you get titanfall for free too. MS needs to do something similar in the US. This is definitly great news especially for my friends in the Uk who have been waiting for a price drop since day one.

gaffyh3733d ago

This actually makes me look at the Xbone as a viable buy now. Still not going to pay for XBL so TitanFall would be useless on me, will check it out on PC first.

Patrick_pk443733d ago

@jackanderson1985 Price cuts occur for every profuct, however we are talking about the new generation of consoles. Price cuts this quickly never happen, it shows that Microsoft is struggling to sell units and get them off the shelves. Terrible news on Microsofts parts, but I am just waiting till the glorious day of its death.

QuickdrawMcgraw3733d ago

Quickest price cut in the history of gaming consoles...I am sure we will hear a number of reasons here on N4Xbox.Were everything MS is looked at through rose coloured VR glasses...I wonder what the really reason is though?

kopicha3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

just another evidence on how they try to screw those people who actually bought their system at launch. That's the reward for being a MS Fan supporting their product

@jackanderson1985
your comparison makes no sense at all. while it is true that everything will price drop. but for something that just release like 3months is not something acceptable. it is just a screw you for those who got it at launch

4Sh0w3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

How come the X1 was is more than $100 US more expensive in the UK?

Desperate or not I think it's a great move and I remember saying micro has the deep pockets to cut the price keep include kinect, Im still glad they maintained their commitment to kinect, to me it's what makes X1 so different from ps4.

btw, its not a slap in the face to existing owners, price cuts happen all the time early adopters buy to be the first to enjoy that product and thus pay a more, those eraly adopters in the UK have enjoyed X1 launch games since Nov.

Kidmyst3733d ago

This reminds me when Nintendo slashed the 3DS price like 4 Months after launch due to lack of sales. But now look at the 3DS

ProjectVulcan3733d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

Microsoft must have realised they were in serious serious trouble and had to cut the price and add value as fast as they could.

It'll help shift units for Titanfall for sure, but they should sell the machine for £400 with a selection of games all this year if they want to improve sales against PS4.

It's a pretty desperate measure this early on but fantastic news for consumers!

darthv723733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

"Not good move in the eyes of all the people that already bought the console full price in recent weeks."

hmmm...seems like the same sentiment was uttered back when the PS3 cut its price shortly after launch.

Early adopters will pay through the nose to be first in line. Everyone else who is patient...yeah good things come to those that wait.

Companies will do whatever they deem necessary to spur the interest in their product. All game consoles have done it at some point. Some quicker than others but the point is, a price drop is meant to entice consumers who were either waiting or on the fence in the first place.

Those who have no interest will still pretty much have no interest. Its one of those circle of life things.

reaperofsouls3733d ago

still not value for money as you can buy a ps4( a more powerful system)+ game for £400. It needs to be at most £350 for console + titanfall

loulou3732d ago

429 was too much. They could have been in a great position in the first place, if they had not bothered with kinect and made some decent hardware.. And released with a sensible price.

Obviously the ps4 has been dry humping the bone in sales in the UK as well.

Expect a price drop worldwide in the coming weeks

FITgamer3732d ago

It is a smart move, if this doesn't move a significant number of consoles, Microsoft is in some serious trouble.

Anon19743732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

@ darthv72. It's not really a fair comparison between this and PS3 price cuts. The Xbox One has only been on the market for 3 months. When the PS3 received a price cut, it was 8-9 months in and the price cut was to move old units ahead of a hardware revision. The new hardware which came out almost exactly a year later was cheaper to make and subsequently also had a new price.

That's clearly not what's happening here. This is more like when Nintendo dropped the price of the 3DS after 6 months and for that Nintendo apologized like crazy to early adopters. I don't know how early adopters aren't going to feel screwed by this, especially considering I'm sure a large number bought the Xbox One specifically in advance of Titanfall. Had they waited just 3 months they could have received that game for free.

It's a great move for MS and a bonus for those who waited, but if I had bought the console just a couple of weeks ago or a couple of months ago, I know how I would feel.

darthv723732d ago

@dark, this is simply a price drop with a bundled game. Using your analogy it would be like those who paid full price for the PS3 knowing MGS4 was coming out only to see sony end up making a bundle of MGS4 and a reduced price PS3.

How sony reduced the price was purely based on refinement of the internal structure. They cut a few corners here and there and removed some component they felt were underused (such as the media reader and hardware BC but the end result was a cheaper PS3 that you could buy with MGS4 in a nice convenient package or you could buy MGS4 if you already paid full price for the PS3 initially.

So far this is merely a price drop and game incentive to help promote sales. There hasnt been any information on if there was any sort of removal of features or refined hardware / redesign to coincide with the price drop.

DEEBO3732d ago

Titan fall mar11

dedicatedtogamers3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

For comparison: Xbox One used to cost £429 in the UK.
The PlayStation 4 currently costs £349 in the UK. PS4 is still cheaper for those who have no interest in Titanfall.

Sure, it's a decent deal for those who waited to get an X1 until Titanfall. Not such a good deal for those who bought an X1 early for Titanfall. While it might increase sales for Titanfall specifically, what about people who want it for Halo 5 or Gears?

This sends a crystal-clear message:

"Don't buy our console now. Just wait for us to panic and bundle it with the console for free."

People can make all the excuses they want. This is desperation. Maybe it'll work. Maybe it won't. But they certainly aren't dropping price and bundling their biggest game of early 2014 because the systems are flying off the shelves (because they aren't)

Gazondaily3732d ago

@dedicated

Call it desperation or call it adapting to the demands of the market; its a good move nonetheless. And besides, you're still getting the Kinect with it remember?

FamilyGuy3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

They're doing it again, ignoring America because they think they've got them in their pocket already. I'm not fully talking about the price drop because it was actually well over priced in that region but the free game bundle.

MS gave away free copies of games in Europe at launch but showed no love whatsoever to their biggest fan base in America and they're doing it again.

I hope they permanently drop the price some in ALL REGIONS officially, even if it's only $20-$30. That would definitely help sales.

JokesOnYou3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

It's a good move, UK is an important market which pretty much helped 360 along with US of course to finish virtually tied with ps3 at 80mil sold before next gen consoles were released.

ps3 had a price cut/adjustment in Japan before it even launched, because of alot of criticism saying it was too expensive after the price reveal:
http://m.ign.com/articles/2...
http://www.engadget.com/200...

and ps3 had a significant $100 price drop after 6months
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TEC...

-This is why competition is good, X1 is a great console but the price is not affordable for some folks, this will help sell some more consoles.

diehardmetallicafan3732d ago

Haha it's the digital copy of titanfall. Cheap-ass fuckers. its literally a regular xbox one in a fancy cardboard box with a download code.

darthv723732d ago

@diehard... and that changes things how exactly??? Seeing as many are increasing their interest in moving to digital I dont see the relevance of your point.

Or did you even have a point?

rainslacker3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

I know people get upset if a price cut comes too early, but they really shouldn't. If you were willing to buy it at the launch price, that's really on you/them.

MS is doing what they feel necessary to move units based on what they want to achieve in market adoption, not trying to screw over their first adopters. If people feel screwed now, why didn't you feel screwed in the first place? Because they were already willing to spend that much in the first place.

I seriously doubt people at MS were sitting in their board rooms rubbing their hands together maniacally thinking this was the plan all along. I'm sure they wanted to see their system for as much as possible, for as long as possible. They just also wanted to sell a certain number of units. It's also likely they have failed to meet projections, which means this may not even be a a reaction to how well the PS4 is selling, just they are personally coming up short.

If anything, it will be good for early adopters in the long run, just because it will help sell units, which means better long term support, which in the end will lead to a more stable future for the X1.

Nes_Daze3732d ago

@JokesOnyou...

Tied? I thought the PS3 outsold the Xbox360 worldwide in lifetime sales, I imagine being tied would still be impressive for a system that released a year later tha its competition..Anyway, this is a good move from MS, a much needed one.

CoLD FiRE3732d ago

@diehardmetallicafan saying "Haha it's the digital copy of Titanfall"

You talk like that is a bad thing! Well, maybe for you it is. I prefer digital and people also seem to ignore the fact that when you buy content digitally on Xbox you're essentially getting two copies for the price of one. You get a copy(license) tied to your account and another tied to your Home Xbox.

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF3732d ago

Look at all the cry baby Sony fanboys. The same fanboys yelling and screaming that MS should cut the price for the more expensive less powerful console. Screaming from the top of their keyboards that either a price cut, or no kinect should be done if they want to compete.

Well now they cut the price and the cry babies are still crying. Oh for shame MS.. but what about the early adopter and other crap.

LMAO... you SAD people.. you know SAD.. Sony Attack Dogs.. you guys want to make your cake, eat it, lay in your beads and then have fun to a Kaz pic... want it all! Now it's a bad thing that MS is cutting the price.

Hilarity. The new school gamer. Resolution and cry over game endings and demand changes. The new school gamer. Cry babies.

ravinash3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

The main thing Xbox needed to do was bring the price down, and they have done that. adding a game that was one of the main exclusives amoung the consoles can only help this further.
It really is the kick it needs and if it really helps the sales in the UK, it will only be a matter of time before the other countries follow.
I wouldn't be surprise if they are using the UK as a test bed to see how this effects the sales.

PudgeySan3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

Clearly a desperate move to get there unit count up as PS4 just launched in Japan and at 100 dollars a hit I think it's worth it for them.. I couldn't see it lasting to long. I think Sony should drop the PS4 to 299 for fun, Just for a month.

likeaboss3023733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

I bought the Xbox One at launch. I'm not crying about the price drop. It's the life of an early adopter.

I bought the PS4 at launch and I'm sure it will drop in price sometime as well. It's the nature course of electronics.

jasonc12133733d ago

It kind of does sting. I saw on Amazon this bundle is for the US, too. But I guess the way to look at it is that you take risks being an early adopter sometimes. I have enjoyed my X1 (addicted to Killer Instinct) and I plan to buy Titanfall regardless. All in all, it's a good move. PS4 practically sells itself with its power and price. MS needs something like this.

Jessika_S3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

I think because the system with Titanfall is going to cost $499.99 here in the US that they will only drop by $50 USD and so it will bring the price down to $449.99 which still sounds good. PS4 with Camera $459.99. I'm also early adopter on both System and the price cut doesn't bother me but it is a little early for that. The last GameStop I went to here in NYC had the system at 20% off and a free game of your choosing.

Edsword3733d ago

Wow, I guess they can afford to be more aggressive with EU pricing than with US pricing seeing how the EU is already paying more. Too bad for MS that this strategy would likely work better in the US than in the EU.

likeaboss3023733d ago

Microsoft is offering a Titanfall bundled console for $499 in the US. So that helps a little as well.

ic3fir33733d ago

By leaving the 360 and pc means that the bundle will not do much?
then explains to me, because in the United States in the Titanfall pre-orders on Xbox One, has 280,000 units, and the pc version only 70,000,and x360 only 60,000?
pc and xbox360 has a huge user base up 80 million, Xbox One has only 4 million user base, and still has 3x more pre-orders than the other versions.

haters gone hate, xbox one is undoubtedly the best version, because it will have a user base of players in titanfall higher than the pc and xbox360

SoapShoes3733d ago

It's because it's the only worth while game for X1 it happens to all good launch window games. They need something to play.

Insomnia_843732d ago

They delayed the 360 version to boost some XBone sells and they only advertise tbe game on XBone and PC but strongly for Xbone. Now, I'm very curious to see how it is on 360.

sinspirit3732d ago

There are far more games on PC and 360.

The "best" version isn't determined by sales. That way of thinking is immature.

When there are already dozens of thousands of people playing then there is no difference then playing a game with a million players online. It's 6v6. There isn't some special difference from having a couple thousand more when a couple thousand is all it needs. In fact, if it gets too crowded servers will be less stable.

I said this days ago and all the xbone fanyboys hit disagree . Xbone is in serious trouble in Europe. The PS4 is out selling the xbone 3 to1 in Europe . Xbone is do fine in the USA but in Europe it's the new wiiU . If Microsoft does not change the trend in Europe then the x1 will sell less then the 360 . The 360 is the highest selling console of all time in U.K but now PS4 is out selling xbone 3 to 1. I said this two days ago. I see a lot of x fans talking about other countries. Microsoft has 900000 consoles sitting on selves in the USA and U.K. If Microsoft want to launch in more countries They could at any time. Companies use market research to judge demand Microsoft known were there is demand for x1 and were there is not. The best thing Microsoft could do is bundle Titanfail for free with xBones. That way the can increase sales without dropping the price before E3 . But Microsoft won't they think titanfail is a system seller but it's not. Michael Pachter said that Titanfall is not a system seller because it on 360 and PC also it look like a last gen and will be the same on 360 version.

come_bom3733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

Competition is a wonderful thing for consumers.

deadfrag3732d ago

medman3733d ago

bumnut3732d ago

CoLD FiRE3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

I'm sure you're one of the people who complained about the Xbox One being more expensive before. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

As a consumer, you should look at this as being a good thing not a bad one.

stuna13733d ago (Edited 3733d ago )

How anyone could think this is a good move in any sense of the world is beyond words! This isn't clever it's desperation! Here's why to give away a new ip that you're putting your faith in to sell the Xbox1 when it's also releasing on 2 other platforms, sure it more than likely will spur sales, but at what cost? Someone's likely to get the short end of the stick! And my bet is riding on Respawn. So that will be cutting into their profit margin from the onset.

Whatever Microsoft paid for exclusive rights to the ip, don't you believe the full amout went to Respawn! You have to also factor in Publisher fees, and believe me they vary! More than likely Respawn is more dependent on how well TitanFall sells as far as making a profit.

Then you have Microsoft possibly destabilizing their profit margin, by lower the price so soon regardless of how long this sale goes on, because the Xbox1 may just fly off the shelves from this deal, but it will also compound their loses in the process. The fact that no one look at different regions of the world and wonder why certain things cost more than in others is baffling to say the least. This is where sales projections come into play, and no one on this site can confidently say that Microsoft says or, are meeting those projected sales goals! This is proof of that, because if it wasn't it wouldn't be permanent.

Also there's the early adopters to take into consideration, because this is a slap in the face! No matter how you put it, because they are the one's who put the Xbox1 where it is at this point. How this works against the Xbox1 and Microsoft, is the fact bad news travels fast, so when this sale is all said and done, there will still be mumblings in the air as to how Microsoft lowered the price of the Xbox1 and also gave away a free game, this in itself will encourage would be buyers to hold off purchasing in the hopes that another sale would perhaps happen, it also compounds the ability for Microsoft to sell the Xbox1 at a consistent pace, they will see boosts, then sharp decline in sales due to those waiting on these specific deals.

Lots of people waiting on infamous to come out before they buy and of course the people that are waiting on titanfall to get their xbox.I think of people have decided what they are getting but this price cut will make the decision a little harder for those who cant decide.ps4 still offers more for the money. Both consoles are going to get spike in sales but what will happen afterwards and what console will still have great games up their selves to get people excited and drive even more sales

Gamer19823732d ago

PS4 rumored price cut in the UK though has forced there hand. There is a rumored price cut to £329.99 thanks to the pound being a lot stronger on the dollar lately. This was supposed to come out in time for infamous but obvious Sony has got a little greedy with the sales going so well and not done the drop yet.. Wouldn't be surprised now if we do here of it or infamous thrown in free.

Also side note.. Including titanfall with consoles is a genius idea from MS and one I hate as it does mean it will "vitually" boost xbox one sales of titanfall. What I mean by this is.. Whats the biggest selling game of all time? Wii Sports.. How many people actually BOUGHT Wii Sports.. Pretty much nobody yet it still goes down as 81.5m sold worldwide..

So when we do see titanfall vs infamous numbers posted we know there un-comparable as although infamous comes as a bundle as of today at least its not with every console.

rainslacker3732d ago

I think it's more likely that they just aren't selling what they hoped to sell in the given time frame. If they were meeting, or exceeding projections, the price would stay firmly planted where it is, although a bundle package may not be out of the question, added value and all that.

While I'm sure MS wants to outsell Sony, so long as they are performing as expected, or hoped, there is no reason for them to compete directly with Sony in this regard.

If you look at it logically, if they were desperate because of Sony, we would see price cuts in all regions, as MS is being outsold in all regions they're both available in. That may still be a possibility, but MS isn't doing as poorly in the US as they are in other territories. They may also just have some more wiggle room on the price in the UK, but don't care to look up numbers.

DanielGearSolid3732d ago

If they aren't selling as much X1s as they expected, some of the lost sales to Ps4 have something to do with that.. Wouldn't you agree?

I never said they were desperate. But to better compete in a region where the gap continues to grow they had to adapt

rainslacker3732d ago

Oh, no doubt. To what degree it's hard to say though. We can only speculate on what happened when, and with who to try and determine where MS lost the chance to meet their projections.

I do feel though that if they were meeting their projections or expectations, then the price would have remained firmly in place. Otherwise, they get the community saying how desperate they are. Desperation may be the wrong word, but it seems to me that most people are applying it in the wrong place(pressure from Sony), as opposed to where it belongs, meeting sales expectations.

Companies do things like this with a long term outlook, so it is very possible that they see Sony running away with the generation, which could lead to a price cut, but I think they just want to sell a certain number of consoles that they determined is necessary to stay relevant within the marketplace for the long term. After a certain install base, the difference in sales between consoles does become moot. With enough of an install base, they will have the support, which will help keep the X1 healthy in the marketplace longer, thus returning more on their investment.

after Mia Valentine handed him "her" million dollar card that Bandit Keith stole from joey. Tea' asked :why you crying joey??

nutcrackr3732d ago

It's just been raining on my face.

Paulie_gualtieri3733d ago

Poor sales or not this just Won them the U.K!

tigertron3733d ago

No it hasn't and I doubt it will. The Xbox One is still £50 more expensive than the PS4 which has a much greater reputation in the UK.

Unless the Xbox One drops to £350 I doubt it'll claw much of the market that was lost to the PS4.

bumnut3732d ago (Edited 3732d ago )

I know more people with an Xbox than PS4.

EDIT- in the UK

beebap3732d ago

Well im in uk too and I know more people with ps4 than xbox one and lots of them were xbox last gen.So not sure about numbers but maybe it more even in uk this time. I would be interested to see total sales for ps4 and xbox one in uk after titanfall and infamous are out.

tigertron3732d ago

@ bumnut

and I know more people with PS4s than Xbox Ones.

Microsoft's Absurd Antics Have Me Scared For Dishonored And Arkane Lyon's Future

With Arkane Austin no more and Lyon living for who knows how long, the superb Dishonored is in serious danger; Microsoft cannot be trusted.

Relientk771d 11h ago

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE1d 8h ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware7301d 8h ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Skuletor1d 5h ago

Just merge them all into a single studio, have it churn out a single Call of Duty every year and call it a day, lol.

Barlos1d 5h ago

Don't be scared, you'll be fine.

Skuletor1d 5h ago

It's exputer, fine is one word I would not associate with them.

Profchaos1d 4h ago

I think it's becoming clear based on matt bootys comments there's no future for any IP that can't sell above 10 million within the launch window. But is also a small game that gives them prestige

/S it's beyond a joke right now

There won't be no more acquiring game publishers from Microsoft in the future . Xbox has to pay Microsoft back. It might take two decades to do that.

sagapo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I don’t understand what you’re saying. Xbox IS microsoft so there’s no “paying back “.
And MS gross profit in 2023 was over 140 billion dollars so forget your 2 decades.

Unless you mean the money MS invested in Xbox (acquisitions included) and the time it will take for xbox as a brand to gain that money back on it’s own, then yeah, that could take a while.

romulus233d ago

The better term to use might be return on investment, xbox is simply a division of Microsoft one that MS can easily do away with if profit margins are not met. So in that regard he's right, if xbox isn't showing the expected return on investment the higher ups are expecting than it's unlikely Microsoft will acquire any other studios any time soon, especially if they are spending billions buying developers just to shut them down in the end.

MrBaskerville2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Xbox is a division that they discussed shutting down but doubled down on after Gamepass was pitched.

It needs to make money at some point. Big money.

rokos2d ago

According to Statista the net income of Microsoft is about $72.4 billion dollars which is a bit lower than last year profit. That is almost as much as Activision's acquisition but I assume that would be a one off since it costs so much plus I see how their focus has been shifted to AI, thus any major future investments will probably be in that area.

Markusb332d ago

i think you are really missing the point

VariantAEC2d ago

@romulus23
That is not why MS buys studios. They might continue to buy because it's about taking that sweet sweet IP out of the corporate husks of their acquisitions.

Xbox isn’t a separate company from Microsoft. It’s all Microsoft.

Abear212d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Let’s be real, this is the media spinning all the acquisitions and liquidations of said developers and spinning it to make M$ the villain.

This was bound to happen, a bigger slice of pie and cut costs, when the games come they stand to make more and that’s their agenda—it was the writing on the wall when the sales went through and legally all those who approved the sale and mergers knew this would happen.

Snowflakes need to realize business is ugly and you can cry all you want but this is how capitalism works. And it works.

That said, M$ needs to steer the narrative and grab hold of all this, make their plans known, hype the hell out of all those dead IP’s they plan to revive, and be honest about the timeline. This is likely to involve mobile and IP on other consoles, and most people realize that.

The problem is this company is incapable of being transparent and seems to often want to dissuade and confuse is customer base. The lack of E3 has hurt Microsoft and I don’t think they know how to properly or effectively market their brand anymore.

There really needs to be a class action lawsuit here. You buy these companies just to put people out of jobs. And it’s not like something happened to derail their plans this WAS the plan. Microsoft has no business in this space at all.

franwex3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Microsoft has been doing this for years. They simply want the IPs. Look at Nokia. Look at Skype. This time it simply expanded to games. Gaming is not as important to Microsoft’s executives as it was to the founders too. Bill Gates was willing to sell the og Xbox at a loss. Steve Balmer approved the red ring of death fiasco. This CEO isn’t really a gamer.

-Foxtrot3d ago

Maybe it's time though to put a stop to it and use a big giant like Microsoft as a huge example to the rest of these big companies.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere.

People like the FTC and the like went against Microsoft yet their Actvision deal was still allowed to go through yet look what's happened...it's not even Acitivisions studios aswell, it's Bethesdas.

VariantAEC2d ago

Years?

Try several decades, and in the gaming space 2.3 decades.

Jon615862d ago

You do realize this happens in ALL industries? Or are you just saying this because it is Microsoft? In any case I feel for those that are being let go but the trch industry is suffering right now.

jwillj2k42d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This absolutely does NOT happen all the time. Let me know the last time 1 company with a terrible product track record spent 100 billion onto acquire MULTIPLE successful companies in under a year only to shut them down and stop making their products regardless of how successful they were. Not merge them, completely shut them down.

And you can’t use Microsoft in your example.

Notellin2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Class action lawsuit? The law is on their side and protects them at all costs. There are no rules to protect the people at the bottom.

jwillj2k42d ago

Not true when it comes to mass layoff do your research.

RNTody3d ago

Ninja Theory, Perfect Dark, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Wolfenstein 3, Dishonored, Prey, Doom, Quake... something tells me that bad things are going to happen to these entities under Microsoft.

MrDead3d ago

ID software, the makers of Doom and Wolfenstein that have been with us since 1991 could be gone and MS will keep the IPs.

I hope some of these studios can buy their freedom from MS otherwise this is going to be even more devastating for the industry and gamers.

Yui_Suzumiya2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I've been a fan of id since Wolfenstein 3D and I'm honestly afraid.

lodossrage2d ago

Toys for Bob saw the writing on the wall and bought themselves out.

Wouldn't be the first time a company did that under MS either. Bungie and Twisted Pixel did the same. Considering what just happened, I can see some other devs trying to buy themselves out too.

anast3d ago

Good thing the bosses of all those small studios made their money.

glenn19793d ago

they cant do it right now they will get burned

XiNatsuDragnel3d ago

Phil and his team need to be gone

lodossrage2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Won't make a difference.

The whole structure needs to be overhauled. Anyone that replaces Phil will be no different than him, Mattrick, or anyone else.

Until the company changes how they go about business, nothing will change

glenn19792d ago

I just don't have any idea what they would do , they have done sooo much damage on their xbox brand, they have a show at July or June I think, but will it even matter even they show amazing games, idkn

lodossrage2d ago

True,

But they may as well get it over with. Whether it happens now or later, the burning is going to hit the same.

Reality is the ONE move that can alleviate a lot of this is the one move they can't make. Remove day 1 from gamepass.

Microsoft Opening Xbox Mobile Game Store in July

The Xbox brand is expanding, as an Xbox mobile game store is opening this coming July where Microsoft will brings its "first-party portfolio."

Jin_Sakai5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

“Bond adds that they will start on the web”

This will go nowhere.

Nice knowing you Xbox. This is what happens when the house never gets cleaned.

MrDead5d ago

The only this MS is expanding is the amount of feculence it sprays on everyone who just want to enjoy gaming and make games.

The best thing MS can do for the gaming industry is leave and never return.

XiNatsuDragnel5d ago

Good luck with this even it might not succeed.
