PlayStation 4 goes on sale in Japan, and there's no competition

The PlayStation 4 is now available in Sony’s home country of Japan, over three months after it first became available in the US. The release comes after Sony has racked up impressive figures elsewhere; the company announced earlier this week that it has sold over 5.3 million consoles worldwide as of February 8th, and managed to nearly double Microsoft's Xbox One sales in the US for the month of January. It remains difficult to find on store shelves.

i'd love to know how well the PS4 sold in 24 hours in Japan

Eonjay3735d ago

Same. The number will be out Monday. My guess is 375k for Saturday and Sunday with most sold on Saturday.

Hicken3735d ago

I would think Sunday would be a bigger day for sales, since even Saturday has a half day, while there's no school at all on Sundays.

knifefight3735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

Hicken:
Sunday is usually a bigger day than Saturday for sales of lots of things, but when Saturday is Day 1, Saturday runs away with it. Day #1 trumps all.

Software, meanwhile, is usually released on Thursdays. That first day will be the single biggest. (Exceptions exist, such as Dragon Quest or Animal Crossing.)
Hope that explains! ^_^

Thinking of which, I'm going to travel off base and see if there are any for sale.

"no competition"?

LOL somehow the author forgot that the Wii U exist!

Knushwood Butt3734d ago

It may exist, but it's not even competition for the PS3 in Japan.

ShadowKingx3735d ago

Greatness could't be stopped in The US and EU, and neither it will be stopped in its native country. Mwahahaahahaha

Haven't managed to snag one yet. I was on a waiting list but gave up and became a bit more pro-active. I was working with nowinstock.net open in a tab for a couple of days and managed to snag one during a brief window when The Source (of all places) had them in stock online last week. Shipped Friday and hopefully it'll arrive Monday. After over 3 months I might finally get my own. :)

Akuma2K3735d ago

congrats, you have arrived to next gen gaming.

gedapeleda3734d ago

congrats you bought an overrated POC

Jack_Of_All_Blades3734d ago

@kriauciunix why be such an ass? Either you're a butthurt Xbox Fan boy, or a PC Elitist who doesn't understand that the PS4 is good value

gedapeleda3734d ago

>2014 calling laptop parts good value
>it barely does the norm
>I think consoles will once again be a braking power with their limited hardware
Btw. I run PS3 PC combo

Anon19743734d ago (Edited 3734d ago )

@kriauciuniux. That's your opinion. Many others viewed the PS3 in the same light, and the 360 for that matter. I owned both consoles last gen and have to say the hours of sheer enjoyment and gaming, that appealed to me and was that was only available on the PS3, was well worth the money I spent on the console. For me, it was a fantastic investment.

Now with my son 4 years old and just starting to game with me, I'm investing in a console that will, most likely, be his primary game console for most of his childhood. Given the enjoyment I received from my PS3 over the years, I have no problem at all putting down $400 for a PS4, the best of the consoles currently available in my opinion. Let's face it, the Wii-U isn't a console for long term. It'll be replaced most likely in a couple of years, and the Xbox One right out of the gate is showing limitations compared to the PS4 hardware.

So the smart console money currently is on the PS4. If there's another game console on the market that looks to have a brighter long term future for my family, by all means..make a suggestion, or if I'm not considering something..speak up. Personally, I'm excited at the thought of the gaming I'm going to be sharing with my family for the next 7 years with my new PS4 for the very reasonable amount of $400.

XDefiant Preload Date & Time, Road to Launch Revealed; Matchmaking Explained

The XDefiant preload launch times have been revealed along with the road to launch! Matchnaking factors explained in detail.

jjb19814h ago

That's awesome because I really want to know what matchnaking is.

shadowknight20344m ago(Edited 44m ago)

It's a word originated in the year 2024 on a gamer news comment section, not often derived by a misspelling to the word matchmaking, matchnaking much more often refers to a carnivore like behavior which is usually referenced to describe how a person eats there food.
