Call of Duty: Could Sledgehammer Games Bring Us the Most Original Installment in Years?

Sledgehammer Games is making Call of Duty 2014. Does this spell doom for the franchise? Or is it a great move?

I'm pretty sure they will still end up sticking with the same tried and true formula and not bring that much new to it... but we can still hope.

I hope so seeing that Cod Ghosts is a huge fail, I don't see how it can get much worse unless they remake World at War

There's no such thing as it being "time." It's up to another developer to come out with something that is both original and has mass appeal.

When CoD 4 came out, it was an original spin on first-person shooter multiplayer. It's played out now, but it was relatively original then. Someone else needs to do something on that level before any other IP can take over.

Popularity goes in waves.. Cod existed before 360/ps3 as a PC title.. That nobody cared about.. Lol.. It was always in the shadow of cs or others..

It became the incumbent.. Even as people became sick of it, many still bought it because their friends did or because it was the only 60fps shooter..

I dont think cod will ever come close to its previous success.. Its dying fast in the wake of better games..

Show me one person that says ghosts is a good game..

Its been in decline for years in terms of quality.. And now sales are reflecting it, finally.

Cods only claim was it was 60fps.. Now that 60fps is essentially the norm for fps' now.. Cod has nothing on any game out there.. Everyone I know has already ditched it and we used to need ground war just to play together..

Again.. Its my opinion.. But even bf4 with all its issues is still widely considered a much better game then ghosts.. That says something

Well your friends do not equal the entire population. First of all, BF4 and Ghosts are not that far off in metascore over at metacritic. Yes, BF is in the lead by a few percent take points, but over all, they aren't far off.

As for sales, both BF and CoD saw a dip in sales with their latest iterations, and both publishers and developers attributed this to consumer uncertainty with the launch of the next gen consoles. CoD still put up $1 billion, despite the dip, while BF4 saw a 69 percent decrease in sales.

As far as I'm concerned, both of these franchises are still in the same spot, not matter what your small group of friends think.

With Ghosts the campaign was better than on-line I used to really like COD till the last few games. What COD needs to do is go back to there roots a good WW2 game not been one in years.

Now the game to have is BF4 a lot better than Ghosts but loaded down second assault the runways are way to short the jets just blow up when you run out of runway they need to fix that.
