Call of Duty’s Influence Over the FPS Genre is Coming to an End

As Microsoft introduced the Xbox One and Sony revealed the Playstation 4, that trend didn’t seem to falter. Call of Duty: Ghosts was coming alongside both consoles’ release, and to no one’s surprise ended up be the most popular game on both platforms. It seemed that this trend was going to follow gaming even longer, and possibly hinder the progression of game design for even longer. I thought that same thing until I played Titanfall.

Next COD is going to suck and you know it. All cod gaems beyond WAW suck. Its been all downhill since then with their casual pandering crap.

I thought the original Black Ops was the best. THe guns and maps felt the best imo.

I actually thought Black Ops was the 2nd best however the maps in COD4 were excellent. Maybe I just have to many good memories but my two favorite multiplayer games had my fav maps, COD4 and Halo 3.

I gave up on COD a long time ago and never really was a huge fan other than 4. I just played it so I could chat with some friends and of course play a game with them (the only one they played 90% of the time). I would give up probably a month or two after launch and never play them again, nowadays though I dont even but them anymore MW3 was the last one I bought and I have not played them since I quit playing that one.

COD, COD2, MW, and MW2 were all brilliant. It's a shame what happened to Infinity Ward. I fear we may never see another great Call of Duty.

That's ok though. Respawn is doing a great job with Titanfall. I just wish it had a campaign. The campaigns they created while at Infinity Ward were some of the best ever made. :/

A lot of people think COD started at 4, it didnt!

say what you want about COD but they nail the shooting mechanics and understand how to make an addictive online FPS game.

For me COD4, COD2 and COD Black Ops were the best. 2014 brings a new developer so who knows: maybe its gonna be great!

that is in fact true CoD has influenced a lot of games, however i differ that this game will be the next big thing and a video game changer, i also played like 10 hours on this Beta and well it feels more like HALO + BF4 without the destruction factor, juast change titans for Tanks, helis and planes and you have something similar to BF, is very balanced since you as human can take a Titan like in BF you can take a tank.

one of the things i can tell is that the Art of the game is great one of the best i have seen for a FPS in the current generation.

at the end people will tell if they like this futuristic game with stuff that are from games like HALO, BF and CoD but is none of the three itself

Titanfall is still very CoDish. Yes you can jump around and there are mrchs, but the gunplay feels very much like CoD and the same applies to menus and UI. It is still strongly influenced by it.

I played the beta yes and the immediate gunplay feels very much like CoD to me. Obviously the Titans and parcoure add another feel. But if you just play without a Titan at the start and don't jump around it feels the exact same as CoD.

Seriously even though the devs done COD4 the game feels nothing like it.

It feels more like the original Unreal Tournament than it does COD. You move and jump around a lot or you die, when in COD you are punished for doing that due to all the campers.

Games will likely still share some of the good ideas that cod had or at least fps staples that they streamlined even after it's gone.

Would think opinions of the games would effect the number of good idea people perceived they had made, not the presence of any to begin with.

Cod Is not going anywhere ,.. Haven't played much of ghosts online lately,.. but my God how lame and stupid the campaign of Ghosts is ,.. compared to W@W and Black ops,.. at least they tried with those games ,.. but then again BF4 campaign is also pretty crap,.. probably even worse

as much as i want COD to die and go away, you think titanfall is the FPS breaking away from the formula? really? COD's gunplay, visauls, lack of destructibility, aim assist, and twitch gameplay are all over it
