GamesBeat: The Elder Scrolls Online is not an Elder Scrolls game (preview)

GamesBeat's Dennis Scimeca: One, glaringly absent element disqualifies The Elder Scrolls Online from being considered a proper entry in the Elder Scrolls franchise. “Live another life, in another world,” is the guiding mantra for the Elder Scrolls series, and I felt none of that in The Elder Scrolls Online, the upcoming massively multiplayer role-playing game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

I kinda figured this would be the case. Too bad. Another Skyrim would've been awesome, even in MMO form.

No. I dont get it. This is an mmo. I imagine that no one has even finished the initial leveling. Can you even reach end game content in the beta? Everyone is comparing ESO's leveling to Skyrim. Again, its an mmo. And mmo's live and die w/ endgame content.

This game will get a ton of mmo players looking for something new...even if it shares traditional tropes. And just like other mmo's, its success will depend upon what we can do once we level cap. If it manages to offer a ton of endgame content in an Elder Scrolls world, I am down.

Dont get me wrong, Skyrim is a great game. And yeah, playing it with other would be fun. But honestly, while exploring was cool, it was quite repetitive too. And how long until everyone was using waypoints. Im am not a fan of the world scaling with you b/c its never challenging. You can max every skill and complete every quest with the same character. It isn't too long before you have every piece of good armor, every great weapon etc.

ESO looks to have a deep crafting game and I cant wait to explore Tamriel w/ other players, leveling so I can take on enemies much stronger in new areas not yet explored. I cant wait to spend countless hours chasing the best gear. Maybe this is why I prefer mmo's to many open world rpgs. To me they end up feeling to easy and hollow. Most quests, while having decent story lines still boil down to...go hear, get this, kill this guy.

I just think that ESO will obviously appeal to mmo fans more than those that love to waste countless hrs roaming around doing nothing. But its fine. They will also make a new single player Elder Scrolls. This game is going to b a constant revenue stream for Zenimax. And I for one cant wait.

That's okay, I still have Skyrim to keep me busy (only bought it a month ago).

I should go play more Skyrim.

Hmmm, sounds a bit of a let down.

Of course it's not. TES VI will be the next true TES game.
