hdmi socket has only recently been implemented so theres many 360 owners not enjoying HD,remeber microsoft sayin hdmi wasnt neccessary and when they do implement the feature its hdmi 1.2 they use the lowest you can get.

the ps3 which had hdmi as standard and went with the hdmi 1.3

its micosoft being so cheap again and its that cheapness also caused the now infamous RROD, if corners wernt cut im sure there sales would be higher because the system has some great games

Component cables can carry 1080p and higher. Some hardware won't accept 1080p over component though.

i have had an Xbox 360 since October 2006 which means i have one without an HDMI port, i also have a PS3 connected to my HDTV via HDMI but look the same with me using component HD vs HDMI.

Well, considering that the USA is the largest and arguably most important market, this is indeed a big deal.

Developers are going to continue to want to bring great games to the Xbox 360. And that is what I (and other gamers) are interested in.

The Xbox 360 is the leader in the true-HD console market right now, without a doubt. And there is no reason that is going to change at all.

The numbers imply the PS3 will overcome the 360 in worldwide sales. This is virtually guaranteed, as markets outside of NA and the UK simply don't seem to care much for the 360.

However, it would take a drastic shift for the PS3 to overcome the 360 in North America any time soon.

The PS3 is barely outselling, and is still at times outsold by, the 360 in NA. With the huge head the 360 has, the PS3 will have to drastically outsell the 360 for months and months at a time to close that gap.

You write the system off because it doesn't have an HD movie format when it's a freakin game console. Which btw I can still access over a 100 HD-DVD movies, play HD video off the video marketplace and stream HD from my own network. Sounds like it supports HD movies just fine.

I can't argue with the non-HDD thing because you are right I think it was a mistake for MS not to include one on every system from a dev perspective. Not to mention the price they charge for the add-on.. However, MS had pricing in mind when making the Core and it really has put them in the position to match the Wii price point and even beat it with this model faster than Sony and the Pro and Elite SKU's.

Same could be said for the amazing Ps2 numbers, how many people bought more then one?

Granted, the 360 had and sometime still has RROD problems, but at least MS came up to the plate and said they ***ked up, can`t say the same for sony and all the issues their consoles have had in the past. The 60gbPS3 is still atm their best consoles ever, all the other playstation launch consoles where absolute crap. Quantity won over quality back then, even for sony.

I really don`t think the people that bought a second one changed the sales numbers that much, and being in retail myself selling videogames, I`ve had far far less RROD customer issues in the last year then I did during the consoles first year on the market.

I may not post here often I do find the articles submitted have less to do about what really matters and that’s gaming. I own all three current gen consoles and I am very pleased with them all. I do not care who is first, second or third because in the end I will get to enjoy the games that all the console makers produce. Will it make one bit of difference if Sony were to overtake Microsoft. In my opinion no. This is a multi platform generation and although we me see some exclusives here and there, all the consoles will get just about the same games.

Again people the only people that win a console race are the gamers. We get to play games on three different platforms. Would there really be any fun with one console calling all the shots? In my opinion no.

As of now the only system I own is a 360, but I will be getting a PS3 sometime this year. I love my 360, and Im excited for this years games. 360 has thus far only been known as the shooter console but this year seems to be changing that. I honestly dont understand why people flame against the 360. They are missing out and showing how close minded they are.

Ill likely be getting my shooter fix from the PS3, but as soon as I get it Ill be playing Uncharted and whatever else is out worth getting.

Most likely Ill be holding out on a Wii until the next Zelda game comes out :)

Microsoft sold about 7.5 million units before the Wii and PS3 were launched, and another 2 million by the end of 2006. As of right now, 18 million Xbox 360s have been sold worldwide.

Honestly, I don't know what the exact numbers are, because as you already pointed out quite well, these "numbers" don't seem consistant.

To me, the "total console sales" falls into the same category as the "more games" debate; they're both directly related to the 1 year gap.

It doesn't really matter if the current gap is 7 million, or 5 million, the point is that both the Wii and PS3 have outsold the 360 since they arrived in 2007, and whatever the 360's gap is at, its shrinking.

To sell 10 million of anything is a huge deal, especially a $400 game console. To dismiss this accomplishment by saying that it is only because they were first on the market is nonsense. Being first to market is NO guarantee of success - just ask Sega. You have to have a quality product with quality software to sell that many.

Sony just announced yesterday that ~13 million PS3s have been sold to customers, but Microsoft said they're only 5 million units ahead of Sony. Microsoft used Shipped numbers in 2006 and 2007, so I don't see them doing any differently this year. But back on topic, did anyone notice they referred to GTA IV more than any of their exclusive titles?

Microsoft is trying so hard to convince developers and publishers to stay away from the PS3, and it's pathetic really. Almost no one in the business sector pays more attention to Life-to-Date sales than quarterly/monthly growth. Microsoft can talking about attach rates all they want, but it won't make Sony's software sales advantage (total per month) go away. They can talk about life-to-date sales, but the PS3 just surpassed Xbox 360 in the largest game territory in less than half the time it took Microsoft. Outselling the 360 by a quarter million units a month is hard to ignore as well.

Microsoft states: "History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle."

Xbox is doing just fine in the American market. Wii is still selling consoles left and right, but for most they just turn into paperweights. PS3 is picking up in the US but has really taken hold in the European market.

Xbox: lacks brand recognition, had the RROD issue, but has a killer library and the best online setup. This is just my guess but I think a big problem is that the Asian and European market just dont like/trust American products.

PS3: PS3 has the biggest install base for all three consoles, but suffered from a weak library. It makes sense to me that those who owned a PS2 are gunna want PS3. If they managed to drop the price again I bet it would sell like hot cakes.

I love my xbox 360 and in my opinion the best console out now.It looks great,great online,the best game lineup and Blu Ray is on the way and since microsoft said that they will support the 360 to atleast 2013 I know theres still tons of great games to come.

PS3 is the only true next-gen system the Wii and 360 shouldn't even be considered next-gen consoles. First off the Wii and 360 still use an old format called DVD which only holds 4.7 gbs of data or 9gb on dual layer disc, the PS3 uses Blu-ray which holds 25gb of data or 50gb on dual layer disc. The Wii has no hdmi port which is necessary for the future while the 360 has an hdmi port 1.2 and the PS3 has an hdmi port that supports 1.3a. The differences first off 1.2 supports 16.7 million colors while 1.3a supports over 1 billion colors. 1.2 cant use Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio and it cant support 7.1 surround sound, while on the other hand hdmi 1.3a supports all that plus more. hdmi 1.2 can only support 1920x1080p60fps maxed out while 1.3a supports 2560x1600p60fps maxed out. An added bonus about 1.3a also supports x.y.Color and Deep Color which 1.2 dosent. 1.3a also has a way higher transfer rate and bit rate compared to 1.2. Also the 360 has 3 core processors which is old news considering Intel makes Quad Core Processors while the PS3 has the revoluntionary Cell processor which has 8 and the Wii has a weak processor we dont even nedd to talk about.You cant even upgrade the 360 HD unless u pay for an overpriced 120 piece of crap HD on th PS3 u can upgrade your HD limitleesly. The 360 or the Wii doesnt even have an HD movie playback drive the PS3 does. The PS3 is built stronger than both the Wii and 360 it can handle more heat and cold and still not break down. Also the PS3 firmware constantly upgrades the system and by far has the most multimedia compatibilities compared to the Wii and 360. The RSX GPU can handle DirectX 10 level details and graphics the 360 GPU can't. The PS3 is truly the only system worthy of being called next gen and is the most future proof console that ever existed. First off lets get one thing clear 360 dosent have exclusives microsoft has exclusives on the 360. Every game that comes out on the 360 comes out on pc also. gears of war is on both platforms bioshock is on both mass effect is coming to pc and pretty soon halo 3 will be on pc. Playstation owners can play all your so called 360 exclusives on computer but u cant play playstation exclusives unless u buy a playstation that means no mgs4, kz2, rfom2,ff13, or gow3 on pc. So ill go enjoy mass effect and and gears of war 2 on my pc without buying and xbox hahahahahahaha

What is the 360 going to do when people are tired of it holding back the console gaming industry.

We already see this happening with GTAIV and DLC... you can fit all that DLC and more on a single BD, but MS claims that you're the win if you get the 360 version because of DLC, while actually you lose because the reason they need the DLC is because they can't fit it on the disc.

I'm not a fanboy, but I don't like people who are uneducated and believe misinformation... Get your facts straight, educate yourselves on what's going on. Still I don't know why the sony folks are so pissed, its a press release and in case you didn't know, PR folks get paid alot of money to write up cool little statements that will be released to the media/comsumers, and the whole goal is to provide the consumer with INFO THAT PROMOTES THE IDEA THAT YOUR PRODUCT IS BETTER THAN THE COMPETITION, while conveniently AVOIDING YOUR OWN DISADVANTAGES. A lot of ppl aren't taking into account that the Wii could sell a lot more consoles stateside if the choosed to, however demand is so high world wide they would rather choose to ship them elsewhere.

This is in part due to the declining value of the dollar. Nintendo could make more money selling their console in Europe considering the Euro is posting all time highs against the dollar.

One thing is positive though, demand for Wii's are greater than that of 360's or PS3's. Wii's have been in short supply since launch. The same can't be said of any other console.

Now Nintendo might not make as much a profit on Wii, I don't know their manufacturing costs, and their attach rate also isn't as impressive, but no one can deny they have sold significantly more consoles worldwide then their competitors.

It's funny, because Nintendo's strongest selling product used to be the DS, which is now being overtaken by the PSP by leaps and bounds. They sold like 250% more PSP's than DS's in Japan last month alone!
