Xbox 360 Titanfall delayed to drive Xbox One sales

Titanfall beta signups opened this evening, and only the Xbox One and PC versions are available for access. With many people wondering, why? Why would arguably the most popular version of the game not be available for beta, and this also begs the question why has the 360 version been delayed?

Ridiculous. Sorry. If they wanted to drive Xbox One sales they'd have delayed it by months, not just by less than two weeks.

Might want to get in touch with reality before starting to type.

LimeyGeeza3747d ago (Edited 3747d ago )

Its complete speculation of course, but 2 weeks is enough to drive some sales and still not anger those who won't make the jump, not ridiculous at all.

Also leaving the 360 version out of the beta (another marketing ploy) - is possibly a device to make people impulse buy the Xbox One, just for beta access.

Abriael3747d ago (Edited 3747d ago )

It's not called "speculation," it's called a "conspiracy theory" of the worst kind, the completely unrealistic kind.

Need a thicker tinfoil hat seriously.

MorePowerOfGreen3747d ago (Edited 3747d ago )

360 version is made by different devs. If Xb1 marketing was the reason 99% of people would simply wait 2 weeks vs spending $570 on a new console. The 360 version was obviously behind.

EDIT

OK *DEATH* Thanks. Now I feel like Yoda

4Sh0w3747d ago

Lets assume for a moment that its a fact they did this purely to drive Xbox One sales:

So what?

Option A buy a Xbox One

Option B play it on PC

Option C wait 2 weeks for 360

I swear some gamers are so self entitled, yet I don't see a gun to anybody's head. I highly doubt waiting 2 weeks is going to FORCE anyone on a tight budget to spend $560 but if it does convince someone who is on the fence and has $560 tucked under their mattress to pick up a X1 then OK why do you care what they do with their money?

georgeenoob3747d ago (Edited 3747d ago )

You do realize the 360 version is being ported by different developers right? Besides, according to pre-order weekly 360 pre-orders are at around 70k while X1 is almost 300k (PC is 50k).

Utalkin2me3747d ago (Edited 3747d ago )

@4Sh0w

Thats how marketing works. And if you want to face the facts is up to you. What people cant have makes the want it more. So take it as you will kid.

abzdine3747d ago

all this cause they dont wanna suffer comparisons with 360 version which is pretty much the same one.
logically they should release them same day to show the huge technological gap between the two versions.
another scum practice from MS nothing more

kreate3746d ago

Isn't it a speculation and a conspiracy theory?

They're both kinda right.

Well, Microsoft don't own it. EA will want it out the doors asap. Why would EA care about X1 sales? It's very likely MS managed to scrape at EA's feet for this 2 week delay imo

darksky3747d ago

MS paid to keep it exlusive. I'm sure they have a say in when and how its released...

brads43747d ago

Seriously? Why does EA care about X1 sales??? They sell software. They benefit directly from more nextgen console sales. Time to head back to school.

RickHiggity3746d ago

It's the partners program. Respawn gets to keep the rights, but EA still publishes it and outs their name on the box. The exclusivity was most likely Respawns decision.

Deadmonkey763747d ago

That or it would have been xbox one exclusive

FamilyGuy3747d ago

I think they might just be embarrassed by the comparison. If the game comes to both at the same time then comparisons can be made that will either:

Make the 360 version look crappy and rushed
OR
Make the X1 version look unnecessary because of how close they are graphically.

Either way theories will exist and this move is intentional. Why not just delay it the two weeks till all versions are ready? There's no reason other than it being intentionally held back.

We can take guesses at it all day and I'd agree with the article title somewhat. MS has been doing a lot of desperate acts recently so it's not all that far fetched. They've seen all the comments of people claiming "I'll just get it on PC or 360" and they've done this in response.

DevilishSix3746d ago

Exactly what I have been saying since the announcement. The industry standard has usually been launching all versions at the same time. Since its two weeks they could wait and launch all at the sametime. So then the delay is intentional and they either don't want comparisons on launch day and/or they want to drive X1 sales. I figure they would give the finger to 360 owners if they could get away with delaying it any longer but they can't.

Withdreday3747d ago

I actually think it's not that far fetched.

They do need something to push the Xbone.

Back-to-Back3746d ago

Artificially inflating the xbone sales numbers. God MS is the most scumbag company in existance.

“Blueprint is putting the finishing touches on the Xbox 360 version. To give them the time they need to put the finishing touches on the current-gen version of the game, we are moving the Xbox 360 ship date to March 25 in North America and March 28 in Europe.”

LimeyGeeza3747d ago

It says that in the article yes... not sure what your point is though? Do you believe everything PR and marketing tells us?

Death3747d ago

Sometimes a spade is simply a spade. Without evidence to back up the conspiracy, I'm leaning towards the studio porting the 360 version needing more time like the developers said. 2 months and maybe you have a point. 2 weeks is hardly incentive to spend $500 on a new console. Playstation gamers have to wait at least a year and I don't see them rushing out to buy an Xbox One.

RickHiggity3746d ago

I'm with Death here. Dumbing things down enough to run on lesser hardware does take time. Lowering texture resolutions just enough to run well while still looking decent, Adjusting the lighting, etc.

ambientFLIER3746d ago (Edited 3746d ago )

Do you believe everything that MS haters on n4g tell you?

Riderz13373747d ago

Not that I agree with the article, but what do you expect them to say? We are pushing the 360 release date back to drive Xbox One sales? Get real buddy.

Qwagy UK3747d ago

The 360 has a huge user base, this delay is down to Microsoft, another fine mess!

PS4 version incoming.. sarcasm

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad615d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

Venoxn4g615d ago (Edited 615d ago )

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

I played them all, they are all good in their own way
I used to be obsessed with FPS games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad896d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal894d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
