Xbox unveils full 2008 software line-up

MCV writes: "Gears of War 2, Too Human, Fable 2 and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts all arriving before Christmas.

Unfortunate internet leaks may have reduced the wow factor, but Microsoft Game Studios has finally revealed its list of big-hitting 360 software releases from now until the end of the year.

I think gears might get pushed. Fable 2 and Gears 2 both gunning for a Christmas release date tells me one of them will get pushed. Since Fable 2 is content complete and only bug testing remains, i'm guessing they are placing Fable 2 for Xmas just in case Gears gets pushed so they still have a good Christmas exclusive to push

According to this release date list both of them are slated for Christmas. Maybe in the UK holidays is Xmas i don't know. My point is considering how big Gears 2 will be for Msoft releasing those 2 titles in Christmas just doesn't make sense.

@AngryXbot- Holidays in the US starts in Novemeber through the New Year, not just December. Matter of fact, in terms of sales the day after Thanksgiving is the highest retail day of the year. Most devs try to realease their games right before Thanksgiving.

i agree a game like Banjo will sell huge amounts on the wii but you must understand that MS is not JUST looking at family games like Banjo to rake in the money.Banjo is the most important game for the x360 this year. Why?. Because it will be the game most people will look at to see if MS is serious about expanding its x360 audiance. Gears 2 and co will keep the already established fanbase happy but games like Banjo and Viva 2 will try to look at enticing a broader range of gamers which is crucial for the xbox bussiness future.

I am sure by now MS understands that in other to dominate they must be consistent. Its not just a matter of getting out blockbuster titles that sells millions like Halo3,Mass effect etc once in a while. Its about putting out just as good games consistently that may not sell as much but more importantly draws in more gamers from different backgrounds even if its just a small amount of people at a time. Games like Lost oddesy and blue dragon are prime examples. They are good games that although might not have sold as much as the likes of halo but they are non the less just as important in building up the x360 JRPG fanbase. Believe me when i say that when the next xbox is out. Lost Oddesy will be another title people will mention as a game worth buying a new xbox console for. This is how PS dominated two gens in a row. I wonder if MS will be serious enough to do it.

Don't forget about the great third party multi-platform games that are coming like Battlefield: Bad Company, Alone in the Dark, Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath, Soulcalibur IV, Left 4 Dead, Midnight Club: Los Angeles , Silent Hill: Homecoming , Star Wars: The Force Unleashed , Dead Space , Fallout 3, just to name a few, but I agree from the first party games are looking kind of weak this year but I think that is only because the 360 has real competition this year.

If you have a falcon your 360 will be free of the RROD, Gears will almost certainly not be delayed, MS does not play games with the release of huge titles like that. If they have to send coders over to help Epic they will to keep that launch date.

In my honest pesonal opinion the 360 has NEVER had a better lineup than PS3.

Maybe its just me, but I find "Halo3", "Gears", "BioShock" and "Mass Effect" to be very similar games; all sci-fi games with shooter combat.
What if I want something more than Sci-Fi shooters?
What if I want better variety?

I owned a PlayStation because it offered the best variety of games.

Yep Halo Wars next year. Im mad that Borderland isn't hitting this year also. Last holiday all the games hit at the same time and it looks like this year we will actually have some games to play on the 360 and the PS3. We have GTA IV now and this summer PS3 get MGS 4 and the 360 get NG 2. Last summer only game I had was the Darkness and then at the end Bioshock.

With the direction they have taken the SPlinter Cell series, I am not really anxious to play it until I know more about it. As for some of the other third party titles... I guess we will wait and see. I find that no mater what, first party titles on any platform are the ones that showcase the systems and for me, those are the titles I look forward to the most.

Actually no games and no huge system sellers are 2 different things. Also I have more games on my 360 than I do my PS 3, 2 I bought my 360 (and I do use it a lot mind you) a year and change before I bought my PS 3. Yes I review games BFD, but what ever biasness you think I have doesn't not show up in my reviews. I never said that I wasn't getting these games and I do think Gears 2 will be a lot of fun, but for me the first one didn't live up to the hype it had along with it just like a lot of games released by MGS. The only game that I actually gave a 9 to released by them was Mass Effect and I gave Gears of War an 8.9, Halo 3 (never published that one) was an 8. I personally don't know what the heck I have to say to you to drill into your skull that I'm not some fanboy with some predetermined bias because if I was I wouldn't even have the god dang thing, but hell believe what you want, I'm just not blown away by it. This is what I mean when I say don't know why the hell Microsoft even bothered acquiring Rareware from Nintendo. I read every post above mine and virtually everyone focused on either Gears of War 2 or Fable 2. Only 3 people above me even mentioned Banjo Kazooie. I'm not a huge Rare fan by any means although I do enjoy their games like Kameo (probably one of the few 360 owners here that even plays it). Nintendo should have kept Rare as their games were perfectly at home on Nintendo consoles as well as appealing to the perfect audience. I mean, hell, Donkey Kong Country on SNES was perfect on that console. I don't know, it just seems to me that Rare's games get nearly completely neglected in favour of Microsoft's own series.

1) When a person's 360 decides to get the fricken RRoD , then maybe that person loses all faith in that hardware and Micro$oft, that they'ed much rather have a console that actually works fine (THE PS3!). And w/o having to worry if they won't be able to turn on their 360 every time they go to hit the darn power button.

2) Not only is Sony's console is more reliable, but it also has free online, which despite what many 360 fanboys will say, has an outstanding online service! And DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED on HOME!

3) You pay for what you get. And I don't think anyone will argue (or can argue) that the PS3 is a MUCH, MUCH SUPERIOR console in almost everyway! I don't think I have to name everything the PS3 has, that the 360 doesn't have. UNless you want me to.

4) The Variety of games for the PS3. When you really take time to think about it, about ALL of the 3630's main AAA titles are shooters in one form or another . With the PS3 you get much more types of games to choose from, that range from all types of genres! In this year alone, Sony has LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Sold 4, Gran Turismo 5, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2, InFamous, Hot Shots Golf, Tekken 6, 8 Days, Haze, Sing Star, and that's not even mentioning the small casual games you can purchase from the PS store, AND ther's still more HUGE games I forgot say. With the PS3 you get POWER and VARIETY, all in a lttle black box.

Micro$oft's line-up is looking very, very weak compared to the PS3's. And the wii's line-up is the worst out of the 3. PS3 has the games now!

Banjo vs. LittleBigPlanet: Both look great and lbp looks very innovative but i like games with a story ie beginning and end. I also don't think i would really have enough time or want to make the time to design levels. I also loved bk3's predecessors and they were some of my child hood favourites. So for the gameplay/story/nostalgia elements i choose BK3

Gears 2 vs. ReFOM2: Played both own Gears to this day. Gears is a stella aaa game, genre changing game play mechanics and has numerous awards to back up its juggernaught status, Res1 is a good shooter that does not bring anything new to the table apart from some new weapons. Gears 2 easy choice.

Splinter Cell:Con vs. MGS4: These two games although both stealth are very different Mgs mangaesque story line with SC based in gritty reality (enjoy both) .

I love both franchises and both have had aaa games along the way. Played mgs to death did not finish Mgs2(got bored of being on that tanker)and have not played Mgs3 as when it came out as i had a heavy revision load for exams(will get round to it some day im sure). Played sc:da finished it and loved it. The enviroments were so varried and the story was exciting(WHAT AN ENDING!!) With Sc trying new things with conviction and Mgs4 being the first mgs on the PS3 im gonna have to wait and see with these two.

? vs. Motorstorm 2 No choice played the first and it was fun but a bit to arcady for me. Ive got colin mcrae: dirt which is more my type of offroader but each to their own. The next racer ill be getting is grid. Loved the demo.

Left 4 Dead vs. Haze (both 4 player co-op): Both dev are imo stella with Half life and Time splitters both being aaa franchises. But from what ive heard and seen Haze is not meant to be that great from the demo. I have not played it yet but this PS3 owners on this site have given me feedback on it and right now im steering to wards ok. Left for dead not much known about it yet love s**t your pants horror shooters and with Valves track record im expecting big things but will have to wait and see how these two games turn out.

GTA4 DLC (LIVE only) vs. Socom (PSN online only): Never got into Soccom but i know people who played this religously. I personally really like shooters but also like/love other genres. With Halo 3 keeping me warm and gears (had cod4 but sold it as i just like the others more for mp.) with gears 2 on the way and soccom not being a full game i'd have to pass.

Gta4 DLC is a certainty unless shockingly the episodic content is not a worth while expansion. RS are one of the greatest dev in the world imo and so i pretty much would bet my house on the content being great. Mass effect/oblivions expansions were great so i can't see why Gta4's content won't follow in the same footsteps.

NG2 vs. ? Love action games must buy for me in june.

Halo Wars vs. ?: Civilisation and command and conquer only rts games ive played but this looks promising from the vids ive seen. Love the Halo universe so im hoping it brings it strong.

Too Human vs. ?: Silicon Knights are another very talented dev. Eternal darkness on the Gc was amazing and a AAA game with a great story,gameplay elements(time travel always a winner) and with the time spent on this new franchise and what i know of it so far i am looking on with anticipation. I know there was the unreal engine fiasco but they have been allowed enough time to make up for the lost time this problem concurred. Loving the online coop as well.

Fable 2 vs. ? Must buy for me 1st was aaa and from the vid diaries and the pics i think this could be the sleeper big hit that Bioshock was last year. 1st fable sold 3mill so im expecting big things as far as sales/reviews are concerned for the second in this franchise

Viva Pinata vs. ?: Still own/play the first love it. Great change up from some of the more hardcore games. Easy to play but hard to master. Music/graphics makes this one of those games you can play and almost feel like you gone for a little holiday with massages,pina colada's and warm weather a given. Love the micro management reminds me of Biology ecology field trips....I went to a mixed school :)

Huxley vs. The Agency (both are possible 2009 though) So far aint seen anything but pics for Huxley and a few vids for the Agency. From a graphical point of view Huxely is the easy choice but there alot more to a good game then graphics. Love the idea of a mmofps which is what huxley and the agaency are. Gonna have to wait to see how these progress. Heard there will be Hundreds of people on screen in Huxley but from what ive seen The agency is on a smaller scale secret agent style.

I won't say this is the best lineup of any year, but NG and Gears 2 are enough for me. The only titles of any meaning coming to the POS3 are MGS and maybe GT5, which won't do as well as everyone thinks. The 360 doesn't need a ton of exclusive titles to continue pounding the movie machine. Alan Wake may sneak into 2008 and don't forget Left4Dead.

1) left 4 dead is also a PC game, which means the sales will be divided between the 360 and PC.

2) alan wake, is confirmed to release in 2009.

3) Your precious gears of war 1.5, doesn't nearly have as much features and potential when you compare it to Resistance 2. This is because of Blu-Ray.

4) If PS3 is just a "movie machine" then I could say that the xbox 360 is just a gimped out PC, because all of its "big" exclusives, will also debut on the PC.

considering that the 360 is for hardcore gamers just like the PS3 is, the line-up is not very good.Gears is good and NG2 is good too, I loved Banjo on the N64(still have it in my PC)but for what I've seen, they f@kced up what the game used to be. They should've left those stupid cars out.

As for the rest of the games...meehhh.

On the PS3 side I must say it is better, I'm not being a fanboy here but HAZE(which is getting pretty good scores) MGS4, SOCOM, and Resistance2, are more for the hardcore gamers, which is what 360 and PS3 owners are.

Motorstorm2 will be as good or better than the first one but didn't deserve to be in the list above, same with LBP which looks good but not really getting much of my attention.

But hey, we both have that Battlefield:B-Company that loks AWESOME!!

I'd love to have a 360 but, the cheap one will break on me after a few months(I play way too much) and the one that don't break, in my opinion, is very expensive considering the price of the 80gig PS3. So my choice is to go to my friend's house and play with them, I really do like Gears Of War.

And 2009 is already looking AMAZING with KZ2, FF13, GT5, RE5 and whatever the other games are....maaan being a gamer this days is awesome!!!

And I must say that I'm not impressed with the lineup. The only games on that list that might be work getting, besides Gears2, is Fable 2, and MAYBE NG2. The 360 better step their game up for 2009. PS3 is warming up in 2008 just to start releasing a frenzy of ridiculous titles in '09. I own all three consoles and, in all honesty, I am more excited for the PS3 games being released than the 360 games (besides Gears). Home, which isn't even an official game, will probably get more attention than 95% of the titles on that list.

I'm pretty sure insults are coming my way and the great word of "fanboy" will be thrown at me a couple of times, but take it as it is. Regardless of how many games 360 _has_ over the PS3, the PS3 titles are much more exciting. Period. People forgot about RPG's... lol... and that's what I love playing.
