'Outlast' on Xbox One: Dev says 'our goal is to reach the maximum of players'

Today is a great day if you own a PS4 because Outlast is now available and if you are a PS Plus member, it's free. However, for those who are adopters of the Xbox One, you may be wondering when and if you'll have the chance to play Outlast on your system.

Recently, Philippe Morin, who is the co-founder of Red Barrels, spoke about the possibility of bringing Outlast to the Xbox One as well as the type of things the team debated about internally when creating the game.

I'm downloading it now. I can't wait to play it tonight.

wtopez3735d ago

Get your cornholio ready then. Frequent underwear changes might be in your immediate future.

ZombieKiller3735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

I picked it up on PS+ for free last night on my PS4 and holy shit.....

This game is scary as hell.

I freaking love it.

MasterCornholio3735d ago

I'm also looking forward to Alien Isolation and that other freaky sci fi game (the one by the makers of Amnesia)

ramiuk13735d ago

is it really scary?
would u recomend stereo hgeadphones or my 5.1 surround system?
lights off on my 47" tv gonna be a bit to much for me i think.
32 years old and im scared to play a game i know isnt real haha

ZombieKiller3735d ago

I'm 31. Got a surround sound, a 42' TV and Turtle Beach headphones.

ramiuk I screamed like a 6 year old school girl last night....I am not a fan of horror but for some reason this was so freaky and crazy I had to continue. This game scared the shit out of me and I loved every second.

Jughead34163735d ago

I'm playing it with my headphones right now, and I can say without a doubt,, that this is the scariest game maybe of all time. And I don't scare easily. After an hour, I almost didn't want to play anymore. This game is so scary, it almost sucks.

TM3333735d ago

No doubt! I jumped off my couch twice within the first 30 minutes. Scariest game I've played in.... hell maybe ever LOL.

Same. Looking forward to it. Downloading Metro: Last Light there at the moment as well. Both should be fun, but Outlast, I am looking forward to the most. I also shall wait until...dark.

I'll be sure to have extra sets of undies as well.

starchild3735d ago

It looks like a staggered release.

First PC ---> then PS4 ---> then XB1

The game is great!!! And for free.

joeorc3735d ago

@Deios

"The game is great!!! And for free."

and if you really like it, you will be able to purchase the game @ a discount also to boot!

Utalkin2me3735d ago

Sorry you lost me in your troll mode.

Eonjay3735d ago

We already purchased it by getting PS+ When we pay for the subscription, we are prepaying for discounted games.

joeorc3735d ago

you still have to come up with the diff. but you can buy the game with a reduced over all price, sorry for not being as clear, if you want the game owned!

thehitman3735d ago

I dont think you understand joe WE get the game free, while Sony pays for it through the subscription service. The discount is full price.

koolaid2513735d ago

It's free as long as you maintain your PlayStation Plus subscription.

Moncole3735d ago

You pay 5$ for the PS+ subscription. How is the game free?

BattleTorn3735d ago

Well, we got bioshock infinite, metro:LL, outlast, and even more...

Soo.. $5month / $39.99, $49.99, and $14.99.....

So yah, about $0.71 of that months subscription goes toward Outlast....

Or you don't download anything else and pay $5 for a $14.99 game, and still save $10.

That's how it's free ;)

Moncole3735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

But you are still paying. For something to be free you dont pay a single cent.

Utalkin2me3735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

Where are you coming up with 5$? I just bought a years subscription off amazon for 30 bucks. Divide that by 12 and that's 2.50 a month. I pay to play online with the PS4, like how xbox live is. So yeah all my games are totally free with PS+.

Again you might have to pay for the service but technically it is free cause of all the money i save and don't have to spend. They just gave away games with value well over 30 bucks, just in a single day. And they do that every week. So basically i pay for 1 game and the rest are free, does that make you satisfied now?

BitbyDeath3735d ago

You pay $50 a year for about $1000 worth of games. $1000 - $50 is $950 of free games each year. Hence the free.

Moncole3735d ago

One month of PS+ is 5$. You are paying for a price so the games cant be free. Thats like saying the shows and movies on Netflix are free.

BitbyDeath3735d ago

You can break anything down like that, take TV for example. They call the non-cable channels free-to-air but it isn't free, you still need to pay for electricity to watch them.

KingDadXVI3735d ago

I think what people are getting confused over is that you get to play the game for free by being a PS+ subscriber at a cost of $50 per year.

However technically you don't own the game. You can only play it as long as you are a PS+ member. Stop paying and you lose it until you pay again.

It should be called a pay to play service.

redwin3735d ago

I'm downloading it now, but the game is really a rental because if you let the service expire you don't keep the game.. But that's ok with me, I pay yearly .

Utalkin2me3735d ago

@Moncole

Please link me to where PS+ is 5 bucks a month. Funny how people are so jealous that it makes them act this way.

Knuckle Duster3735d ago

If your asking yourself how scary can be.........well it pretty fug'n scary!

SpitFireAce853735d ago

Yeah its F ing scary i played it last night for
about 2 hrs scary as hell..

LAWSON723735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

At the end of the day that should be every 2nd or3rd party developers or indies ideal, maybe 1sr party but usually they try to make a unique experience for a specific platform by taking advantage of what it offers. That is as long as the experience they are trying to deliver is not held back or tarnished by any of the platforms they want to bring to, and no I am not talking about resolution and fps.

Eonjay3735d ago

Cool. Xbox gamers need to get in on this game. It is scary as hell. No joke. Resident evil has nothing on this.

MasterCornholio3735d ago

I hope the parity clause doesn't prevent them for releasing it on Xbox One because its a great game to experience.

hankmoody3735d ago

Why can't more PS4 fans on here be like you? You deserve your bubbles. I'll vote you up.

WeAreLegion3735d ago

They're few and far between, but it's great, isn't it? I always try to bubble people like that.

LAWSON723735d ago

The game is nothing like RE. They are two very different games that have nothing in common except they both are horror games (well at least the old ones).

Rainstorm813735d ago

Uh that's why he compared them, since they are both horror games....SMH....the internet

LAWSON723735d ago

With that logic we should just compare FF to Skyrim because since they are both RPGs.or how about Deus Ex and Borderlands 2 since they are both shooter/rpgs.

Rainstorm813735d ago

By that logic no two games could ever be compared since most games play different....I don't see why not compare same genre games especially since people also don't want to compare different genres either.....comparisons and competition makes the gaming industry strive

ramiuk13735d ago

really, what about to have someone with you playing, would iot be just as scary for them as the controlling person?
gonna get girlfriend to hold my hand i think

isa_scout3735d ago

My 32 year old cousin and my 24 year old friend came over to watch me play for about an hour today. They both screamed and jumped so bad that my cousin actually left because it was freaking him out just watching me play...lol
This is the most fun I've had being scared in a long time.
I'm a skinny guy, but I was sweating like I just played a full court game of basketball. Great to know Xbox owners will get to experience such a great game.

JodyCones3735d ago (Edited 3735d ago )

They're going to poop their pants. I have it from PS+. It's been so ridiculous. I need my brother in the room with me at some points when I play. Hahaha XD

MadLad3735d ago

It really should be available to as many people as possible. It's essentially a modern Amnesia, without all of the obtuse puzzles.
It's fantastic.

A lot of my favourites are on this list so I whole heartedly approve.
Everything except The Observer. It started out really interesting but quickly unraveled into a train wreck. Including frustratingly dull dives into mind sequences, They neutered the monster with boring on rail stealth sequences and a laughably obvious and cringeworthy ending. Mix in bugs and some wonky controls to boot.
I had really strong impressions with it to start but ended up absolutely hating it.

isarai538d ago

I got 2-3hrs in and couldn't take it anymore, the constant need to switch between the 3 visions just became so annoying and honestly just unnecessary.

monkey602538d ago

I actually agree. At first I thought it was a great idea because the game wasn't holding your hand with the Detective work but it was so unintuitive too. It became a sequence of staring at everything for long enough in 3 different vision modes just to see what stuck.

Yui_Suzumiya538d ago

Soma would be more existential horror than anything but I'll be damned if it didn't have one of the best stories in game that I've experienced. Blew my mind.

I remember the suffering and it was descent game. I always wanted to play Crimson but never got to it.

But honestly, I’ve never played a game that really scared me, like some movies from the past have.

Silly gameAr560d ago

I remember The Suffering 1 and 2. I haven't thought about those games in years. I still remember some parts of the level in the prison where a guy was sucked through a vent screaming. I don't know why that's stuck with me all of these years.

Babadook7560d ago

I'm saving RE VIII for when the PS VR2 comes out.
