IGN's Thoughts on the Gears of War 2 Trailer

Ryan and Nate speak openly on the recently revealed gameplay footage from Epic's Gears of War 2. Just how AMAZED were they? And what was that shirt Cliffy B was wearing? Is he working out or did his shirt shrink? Although IGN can't promise all these questions will be answered, rest assured, they are working on it!

The rule of thumb to enlightenment is whatever Sony fools say, the truth lies in the diametric opposite. Look at KZ2 and you see the fact that the graphics are lacking even though they spent a lot of effort on animation. Look at Gears 2 and you see the fact that it blows everything on PS3 to shreds. You're in for a big disappointment 'cos I've seen Uncharted 2 and the graphics are worse than its textureless predecessor with AI that rivals GT5 (which just plain sucks).

The 1st one wasnt *that* short, if you played it on the easiest level, you could move through quickly.

But on medium or hard, it takes a lot of time to mow get the Locust down and they're more aggressive.

The campaign was long enough IMO, it was so damn good that I didnt care. I've played through it and its just as fun the 2nd (and third... and..) time.

Well, this comes in the arguement about quality over quantity. I'd rather have 6-7 good solid hours, than 10-12 filler hours. Gears 1 definitely was good all the way through. Even if Gears 2 is only 6-7 hours, it's still going to be a great 6-7 hours. Same goes for COD4 single player.

I played on the second hardest difficulty (I think thats medium) and to get to the final boss took me at least 8-10 Hrs. I finished the final boss on easy because I was about to break my controller. Either way I have no complaints against the first one aside from the lack of story and that the chainsaw was basically a scripted sequence. Both things are fixed so Im happy. Like I said before I dont expect a reinvention...even more of the sames good to me. But I can see why others may want a whole new bag of tricks. But I dont think epic will dissapoint unless you are unrealistic. Like people expecting GTA4 to be the holy grail of video games ( which I dont think it turned out to be, but the DLC or next itteration 360 or PS3 will be much better)

I mean it looks a little better than the first gears, which was great for 2006. For 2008 this game will look a little above average, nothing special. The problem is that it is being made with the Unreal Engine, which is too flexible, and not optimized towards any platforms strengths. True, this is being optimized by epic for the 360, but it is still UE3.5, meaning that it won't max 360, perhaps just 80% of its power.

Anyway, Killzone 2 already looks excellent, significantly better than GoW2 and it's gonna launch after it, so I doubt GoW2 will look better; hell KZ2 even looks almost as good as crysis, better in a few aspects, especially in the art style. Crysis is much more realistic and needs better hardware to be pulled off, but Killzone definitely approximates the CGI feel too, yet the atmosphere is a lot grittier. The only thing that worries me about that one is the gameplay.

GoW2 might have a change against Resistance 2, but again... the first resistance was a launch title, which means it was rushed. R2 takes a lot more advantage of the PS3, and if you've seen the screenshots or HD videos it already looks awesome. It could happen that R2 will look better than GoW2.

Besides, on the gameplay front, I have no doubts that R2 will excel. GoW1 excelled, but it seems that R2 is a massive leap over the first one in terms of content and gameplay; will that happen with GoW2? I doubt GoW2 will use more than a DVD9. R2 will perhaps use BD50. R2 already uses similar scoring rules premiered by COD4, and will have 8 player co-op, and mini-battles inside 60 player battles. The campaign is likely to be even bigger than GoW2's, just like on the first game.

GoW2 will definitely satisfy GoW1 fans and anyone that buys it, but as a gamer and a rational consumer, if I had to choose, I think I would go for Resistance 2 first.

On a gameplay front Resistance will be no different than any ps2 or xbox 1 shooter. Resistance is seriously antiquated and generic shooter. If it were on the xbox 360 it would have not produced a sequel its not even worthy of a sequel.

Honkin 2 gig level, didn't you hear the level is 45 minutes, would't surprise me if the gwhole game itself last two hours. Shortness is a common trend for sony, which is why it can't make any good sequels to anything becuase their games blow. Look at heavely sword, lair, warhawk, and even mgs4 is only 8 hours LAME. This is Gears of War TWO, get out of the thread jealous sony slaves.

Gears of Bore 2's new trailer looked very unoriginal and uninspiring. It looked as if they were trying to capture the "wow" effect that games such as Shenmue, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and Metal Gear Solid has. At no surprise to Dark Sniper, Epic Games failed miserably.

Whatever that video is supposed to do... There are no actual "thoughts" just one regarding the human shield issue in multiplayer... and it was pure assumption and had no real analysis to it... the rest was shallow commenting on what you can see on screen...

To sum up:

There will be battles of a much larger, less hindered scale in the game. As well as a expressed consern for the "meat-sheild" mechanic in multiplayer should it make an apperence.

They only know just as much as we do, but I don't think this interview was worth posting.
