Time to get scared: Outlast next week, says PlayStation Blogcast

Joystiq:

Outlast left us wanting to stop playing it over and over when it hit PC last year, with Joystiq's normally unflinching Jess Conditt saying, "Those moments when the stress of running and hiding and worrying about every single little sound become too much, and the paranoia eats away at your sanity until you feel trapped. You want to quit – to escape – but you can't, because you have to get out of the asylum, to see it through to the end."

I think im too much of a wuss to play this, even if it was free :P
But good news for people that love these types of games, wish I was as brave as you guys:(

I dnt understand this. Not trying to insult you or anyone else but wouldnt you automatically know is just a video game and it cant harm you(except nimghtmares) . Is it that you guys get so into the game that it almost feels real?? Or is it the jumpscares??once again, not trying to insult just very curious

That's what I think to myself before playing games, but when I actually play a few games make me jump. Even a game like Uncharted 2 made me jump when there was a monster thing hidden in a shadow and it growled all of a sudden. So I feel like when I play this the parts that will scare me are when something just pops up out of nowhere when I don't expect it.

If you can honestly play this game, alone in your house and at night... Yet feel nothing... then I applaud you!

I remember some parts from Res 4 that were just straight up creepy. So, yes.. certain games can have an affect to your mood.

I understand having trouble with horror games. I have only played a few because I get so into games that even non horror games get me shaking from stress, MGS I sit in hiding and watch the routine of each soldier for like 10 minutes before I dare take a step in the open. Horror games are harder than other mediums because it draws you into the game far more than a movie or book does. With that said, a good scare is welcomed from time to time, and being free is a big plus

Luckily for me I have nuts the size of basketballs.....maybe I should get that seen to, to be honest.

I'll be looking forward to playing this on Wednesday.

I have played it on PC and its without doubt the best horror game I have ever played and it looks incredible.

_FantasmA_3759d ago

Mmmm I eat horror movies for breakfast and as a bedtime snack. The only reason you people get scared is because you let your mind scare you. I doubt this game will be scary but I just hope its good. I'm hoping Amnesia comes to PS4 sometime as well.

Too bad I get my report card next week. I got a F in Geometry so my Playstation is getting taking away. FML. I was really looking forward to Outlast.

A lot of my favourites are on this list so I whole heartedly approve.
Everything except The Observer. It started out really interesting but quickly unraveled into a train wreck. Including frustratingly dull dives into mind sequences, They neutered the monster with boring on rail stealth sequences and a laughably obvious and cringeworthy ending. Mix in bugs and some wonky controls to boot.
I had really strong impressions with it to start but ended up absolutely hating it.

I got 2-3hrs in and couldn't take it anymore, the constant need to switch between the 3 visions just became so annoying and honestly just unnecessary.

monkey602558d ago

I actually agree. At first I thought it was a great idea because the game wasn't holding your hand with the Detective work but it was so unintuitive too. It became a sequence of staring at everything for long enough in 3 different vision modes just to see what stuck.

Soma would be more existential horror than anything but I'll be damned if it didn't have one of the best stories in game that I've experienced. Blew my mind.

I remember the suffering and it was descent game. I always wanted to play Crimson but never got to it.

But honestly, I’ve never played a game that really scared me, like some movies from the past have.

Silly gameAr579d ago

I remember The Suffering 1 and 2. I haven't thought about those games in years. I still remember some parts of the level in the prison where a guy was sucked through a vent screaming. I don't know why that's stuck with me all of these years.

I'm saving RE VIII for when the PS VR2 comes out.
