First Halo 3 vs COD4, now Resistance 2 (Sony PS3) vs Gears of War 2 on Xbox 360

After playing games like Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, the next game in their class has to equal them and be much more. On the upcoming games, people want features that are both different and unique, the good news is 2008 may be bringing just that. Last year it was COD4 vs Halo 3, but in 2008 we will see the Sony PS3's Resistance 2 up against Gears of War 2 on the Xbox 360.

Pretty much, I've been saying this for the longest time.

Now if you wanna talk strategies of each console manufacture might do during the holidays to sell their most anticipated game sure.

Personally, these 2 games are not even on the same level as far as, "what one did for their perspective consoles, with their launches."

The thing is, I think Sony PS3 and some of it's hardcore fans is still yearning for "That Game" this Gen. The 360 IMO already have had it.

From what I have heard and seen Resistance 2, is not it.

I feel bad because Killzone 2 is gonna rain on it's parade after 2 months of playing time. Seems like there is more excitement circling around that game.(obviously). Forget what Geow 2 is doing that game is gonna sell regardless.(No Stopping it, it's proven)

The guy who wrote it didn't even finish Resistance. He said he only played it for a couple of hours. Its a 10-12 hr game how can you judge it playing 20% through? And how can you say Gears 2 will have way better graphics when no one has seen the single player in Resistance 2?

1.7 - No game should be compared to MGS4 because MGS4 is on a whole different level.

I can't wait to see the battle between these two juggernaut titles. I mean in '06 you saw a lot of people criticizing and comparing Resistance with Gears of War. A lot of people (even myself) felt that it was unfair 'comparisons' because Resistance being a launch title and what not. But this time around its more on a level playing field. Both developers have worked with their exclusive console for quite some time and both did great things for the system they released on.

Both Gears of War and Resistance sit comfortably under my TV but I'm rooting for what Insomniac is doing. Their an awesome developer and for them, they were the underdog back with the PS3 release and now they are just ahead of every other developer who is making games on the PS3 by miles...

Insomniac are taking this game very seriously and they are ready for Round 2 VS. Gears of War.

Resistance 1 and gears 1 were both fantastic! Although I dont have a 360, ive played it on my buddies. Gears 2 may finally be the reason why i may buy a 360 unless ofcourse it comes out for PC again, then no 360 needed. Both resistance 2 and gears 2 will be great im sure.

Insomniac pumps out 9.0+ games everytime and im sure they wont let us down. Same goes for epic.

True comparing gears to killzone would make more sense due to closer similarities than gears vs resistance.

But the fact still remains is it's fps vs third person shooter.

Comparisons should only be made for SAME genre games.

Well, other than GRAW being awesome, too. I thought they were awesome for in different ways and for different reasons.

GRAW lacked the seamless campaign co-op, for instance.

As for your earlier comment, I don't necessarily agree that GeoW is the best 360 game out, but regardless, you said that - "being the best game on the 360 isn't saying much"? You're clearly blinded by bias if you can't admit the 360 has a pretty solid line-up. But guess what? So does the PS3.

I think both games will be amazing and multi-console owners really win out being able to enjoy both experiences.

One note though, Resistance 1 had 40 player Multiplayer matches and did not have a single second of lag. Sony first party MP games use Dedicated Servers which reduce lag to nothing. I’m sure R2 will employ the same Dedicated servers. Gears MP really suffered from lag and I hope Epic takes a page out of Insomniacs playbook and uses dedicated servers as well.

I LOVED GEARS1, well the campaign at least, i hadnt had that much fun with a SP game since halo 1 lol.

but the multiplayer really pissed me off, the conecpt was cool, i didnt mind 4 vs 4 (i wish gears 2 does at least 5vs5 though) but the lag killed gears online, it came down to who had host. and the lobby system for ranked games! WTF! so yeah the host can basically choose whos on his team (taking the best ranked players everytime) yeah thats fair...

gears MP to me was inferior to even halo 2, and when halo 3 came out i havent touched it. hopefully gears two will have top notch multiplayer, if it does that and provides another stellar campaign... its going to be right up their with halo 3 on my favorite games list.

i commend resistance on it not having lag, more games need to follow insomniacs lead on that.

RFOM was a launch game on PS3 while Gears came out a year later on the 360 life span...not fair to compare them.
Curiously KZ2 simply trounces Gears2 visuals.

A fair comparisson would be Halo 3 vs Killzone 2...right.

@6.1 KZ2 is no way comparable to COD4. HAave u played COD4 or watched the intense action and gritty environements on video or trailer? KZ2 looks like a walk in backyard of a pre-school. I think the only real reason Resistance 1 and GoW 1 were compared was because, at the time, they each represented the "best" graphics for their respective system.

Nowdays, the title of "best graphics" is much more subjective so there's little reason to compare the two unless you're a bored fanboy.

Gears 1 was compared with Resistance 1 as indicators of Xbox vs PS3 hardware power, and we'll see the same go for the sequels. Right now we can't compare anything though since Sony showed Resistance 2 Multiplayer and Microsoft showed Gears 2 Campaign. Both are still early in development as well.

Graphics, Physics, and Animation will be the big factors, but Content will probably be the main focus. The fact that Resistance has 2 campaign modes is just insane, and I hope Insomniac can pull it off properly.

how does 60 player MP make resistance the best everz! they compare it to halo, COD4, whatnot, and since it doesnt have better graphics or gameplay... well it has 60 players OMGZORZ its automatically the best FPS EVERZ cause that justifies it lacking in every other department!

im not saying resistance is bad looking game, i just think the graphics and gameplay look bland compared to other shooters already out. and i just cant stand the whole 60 players = better game argument. i personally loath battles that are over 12 players, the more players the harder it is the talk to your teammates. i swear ive played mutiple shooters with 16+ players and it just wounds up everyone saying STFU and they go their seperate ways.

Resistance was a launch game, what do you expect??... Even though it was a launch game it had hugh and great detailed environments. Gameplay was fun and weapons were awesome.

Visuals weren't what I was expecting, but they were decent.

About 60 player in R2, it may not be the reason for it to be the best game of all, but it's a damn good addition and even better the 8 player co-op.

Now this time around Insomniac has familiarized with the PS3 hardware and with their new engine, I know this game will blow us away.

i was talking about R2 graphically as well,

i just dont like the direction they went with it (both games), it just seems bland to me IMO, even the gameplay doesnt excite me that much. if they pull off 60 players no lag great for them, though im not a fan of HUGE player amounts in FPS but i guess its wahtever floats peoples boats.

the only thing that impresses me with resistance games is how the online has no lag which even though halo is usually buttery smooth, it suffers from time to time, so i commend resistance and its devs.

but anyway, im looking foward to gears more since halo 3 will hold me over on FPS (want to play killzone 2!!! those graphics are insane!!!) but halo 3 has it all for me, but i really like the gears of war and hope the second one delivers and makes gears a very cool franchise ill enjoy for years to come. IMO all they need to do is fix the online MP (lag is the only main issue, and add more game modes) and gears 2 will be way better than gears 1

I love top class fps which is why i'm glad i chose 360.Most fps are only average anyway but the ones that truly get it right are either on pc or 360.Resistance was reasonable fun but it's only ever the most loyal of Sony fans that claim it better than anything 360 has to offer.Killzone2 could end up great but looks alone don't make for a special fps.As for Gears2, well that's practically guaranteed

The details of what these games are about hasn't even really been flushed out yet so it's kind of lame to compare them this early.

Plus they are 2 completely different games with different play styles so comparing them is sketchy.

I actually didn't like gears. It's repetitive, character design hit the center point of my hate for human stupidity (It's beyond stupid), every time i hear Marcus and Co i wanna shove that chainsaw thing up their ass (their character is flatter then their armor and shallower then sheet of paper. And even then it's on the level of hormonally frustrated 15 year old gamer)and graphics made me check cables and my TV (since game basically has 1 color. And it's not design choice. Single color screen is chosen for several practical reason. Textures compress better. U can hide ton of unwanted crap. It's faster to render. Never the less it's UGLY as hell)
Resistance was just a bit better by managing some character into game and keeping design on this side of inteligence. It's still guilty of all other accounts.
Gears 2 is fine with it's mental case as it seams but resistance 2 seems to realize there is few more colors out there at least.
As for Killzone 2 all I can say is that it's Guerrila. They got better with Liberation but will KZ2 deliver is anyone's guess.
And Halo 3 has graphic and design done right, maybe a bit to pastel. Characters are still paper cutouts and story is there but it could be retold in 1 paragraph without missing anything (story is not the strong point of modern shooters it seems) and gameplay is strictly medicore.
I'm still to see FPS with single play that can match Black (best on consoles) and Half Life (the first one. By far the best one overall)

2 totally different game but it the spirit of n4g, I shall do my best to compare the games. Well all you really have to do is look at the first 2. Gears of War shook the gaming world and Resistance did not. It's that simple. Both games had great campaigns but Gears had a better overall multiplayer experience. Resistance multiplayer was a mess. I expect both sequals to be much better than the originals.

You wouldn't compare ff13 vs gears 2 then why compare killzone or resistance against gears 'coz it's not even same type of gameplay. Don't even dare to compare with MGS 'coz mgs is unique. EDIT: I really can't wait until they crank out some 720p video of Resistance 2. The video posted on their site was very low quality.
