-Foxtrot3767d ago

Really don't see the point of this, I'd understand something like Last of Us, GTAV, South Park Stick of Truth but not something as old as Skyrim.

Why can't developers not just focus on their new games they'll be showing off soon instead of wasting their time on old games and cross gen platforms.

Last gen is over, lets move on and look towards the future. It's up to Sony/Microsoft to support their old consoles, not third party devs

Wingsfan243767d ago

Sales. And, it probably wouldn't take much to port it over and give it the graphical quality the PC version has with some extra oomph in there. Basically same thing Tomb Raider's doing. But yea, this game is a bit old to be doing this. Guess we'll find out soon.

guitarded773767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

It happens because it sells. The final version of Oblivion (don't remember what it was called) came out after the years after the original release... at least a year or two after the GOTY edition. Bethesda properties retain their play value, so I could definitely see this happening. Also GTA and some others. It's almost like free money with there already being a PC version and all.

EDIT: Did some quick research, it was the Oblivion 5th anniversary edition, so 5 years later they were still re-marketing and selling.

M1ST4K33767d ago

The PC version of skyrim (unmoded!!) sucks graphically, comparing to other games (heck, even Far Cry 3 looks better)... So, they would have to remake it a bit to make it look next gen. It's a waste of time!

OR they just put all the expansion packs + HD texture pack and boom Definitive Version! And they keep milking the cow.

PS: I love this game, really... have more than 300 hours on it... but... let it stay where it is... PC and old gen. We need NEW games :)

zeee3767d ago

Damn it Bathesda! Give us Fallout 4 already. Imagine the amount of sales with the after-launch games drought on both XONE and PS4.

beatled3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

lol...it'll NEVER look as good as the pc version.....get real man

have you seen skyrim with a few mods?????

the ps4 will NEVER have a game that looks anywhere close to skyrim on pc with mods
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

now picture that 10x more clear in perfect 1600p without crappy youtube compression

you will NEVER see anything even close to that on ps4...and that's a pc game from 2011

Wingsfan243767d ago

@Beatled,

If it's optimized it'll look good. Hell, they might even be, and probably are, porting it to their own in-house next-gen engine.

ShinMaster3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

@ beatled

1) I knew you people were gonna bring up "mods".

2) Have you seen Tomb Raider DE vs PC version comparison.
It is quite possible.

3) Skyrim was LIMITED TO ONLY 2GB of RAM on PC.

4) You people need to stop talking as if your PC experience is universal. PCs are not consoles. They're not all built the same. There are PCs out there weaker than both PS4 and X1 and play games just fine. High-end PCs are in the minority.

Tsar4ever013767d ago

I be DAMNED, A Re-packaging, graphical touch up of 7th gen Greatest RPG. SKYRIM, this has to be some mistake, a typo or something, or about Elder Scrolls Online? the 12th will settle this.

tubers3767d ago

Even with their official texture pack, it's something to scoff at.

GarrusVakarian3767d ago

I put over 600 hours into Skyrim on the 360 but i would buy this for my PS4 in heartbeat. Just thinking about it in 1080p @ 60fps makes me excited. Plus, it would give me a chance to get back into that world and lose myself in it all over again.

ChrisW3767d ago

Well, at least a Playstation version is necessary...

SharnOfTheDEAD3767d ago

Tbh I have not played ANY Skyrim DLC so I'd certainly pick this up if it arrives ob PS4

Pogmathoin3767d ago

There would simply have to be new quests or something to get me back into this. I have spent at least a year on this and DLC. Amazing game though.... time for Fallout 4 really though....

WrAiTh Sp3cTr33767d ago

I wouldn't say there's a drought post launch, especially with the XB1 with games such as Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare in Feb then Titanfall in March--along with Metal Gear, Thief, and Tombraider for multiplats.

On topic: It's too bad no word on mods being worked out on these new consoles between the devs and console makers.

Sevir3767d ago

The thing is would you really want to port this and play this on the XBO and PS4? It's 2 years old and Elder Scrolls Online is coming out this year! It's silly...

I didn't even turn the black of my eye to Skyrim when it released in 2011 and I certainly won't bother if they rereleased it on XBO and PS4. I can see If it were a game from last year. But 2 years old and more is just pointless

ABizzel13767d ago

Expect no less than 1080p @ 60fps ultra settings PS4, high XBO. Skyrim isn't a demanding game at all so while they're at it through in some of the graphics mods.

xerokai3767d ago

@ShinMaster

You are incorrect. Skyrim was patched in 2011 to allow for up to 4 gigs.

http://store.steampowered.c...

minimur123767d ago

I remember in the TR q7A the dev's held, the guy said it took them 6 months to do it, so to be honest, 6 months of hard work for quite a bit of money? I would,, wouldn't you?

frostypants3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

@beatled, of COURSE it looks better on PC. PCs have more watts, right? And watts = GRAPHICS POWER!!! /s

Yes folks, that is what this guy actually said once...

ShinMaster3766d ago

@ xerokai

It's still less than what PS4 and X1 have.

Bobby Kotex3766d ago

Well Skyrim on PS4 and Xbox One is definitely not interesting or newsworthy.

MicDude3766d ago

I want to know why modding isn't a valid argument. Do you all think it is unfair to argue that mods are one reason why PC gaming is better than console gaming and because you cannot mod console games? I think that PC gaming is better than console gaming just for being able to make your games better.

If you want a drastically better, or in this case, prettier version of a game on consoles IE Tomb Raider, you have to hope that the devs and pubs are willing to put forth the effort and when they do, they charge full price for a game you already own because it's prettier. Doesn't that sound messed up?

Dark Souls is another example. If you played Dark Souls on consoles and you were fortunate enough to make it to Blighttown you were stricken with God awful framerates throughout the area and even some other areas but Blighttown was the worse. The PC had this problem too and From Soft never fixed it. IDK why. But someone was nice enough to mod the game and fix alot of the problems in addition to the framerate issues and these mods were put into a package called DSFix.

My point, mods add so much value to games whether they are being bug fixes or something that is utterly ridiculous like having Spiderman ride in the Batmobile across Skyrim and yes that is a thing lol.

It's a shame that console games cannot have mods. They would be so much better.

Anarki3767d ago

At this point in the next generation, anything will sell just to test see what the next gen is capable of. Not only that, its not like we are flooded with games now.

Wingsfan243767d ago

Well, I suppose I wouldn't mind having Skyrim on next-gen tech. Considering Fallout 4 is possibly on the way, it'd be nice to have Skyrim to play as well. Just my opinion of course.

static52453767d ago

Yeah I would totally double-dip for this game just because I still play it on current gen. If they said next that they will Upgrading Fallout 3/New Vegas/Dishonored... I would buy all three, just because I still play all of them. Why not get the upgrade for awesome games.

konnerbllb3767d ago

If load times are near instant AND it included all dlc's I would buy this.

Not worth it if it's takes up to a minute to load a new area.

Reibooi3767d ago

The thing that makes me kinda nervous about this is that if they are willing to do this for a game as old as Skyrim that they will be doing a cross gen version of a new game aka Fallout 4 which would easily ruin it.

konnerbllb3767d ago

God I hope Fallout 4 isn't cross gen.

JunoDivided3767d ago

Fallout wont be cross gen. After all in several developer interviews bethesda said they almost pushed skyrim to whatever next gen was going to be before they saw the potential of the ps3 and x360.

zeee3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

^ I have long stopped trusting the words of Bathesda, Capcom, Square Enix, Activision, EA, Dice... you see where I am going with this?

Muffins12233767d ago

Might be remastered who knows!

Sarcasm3767d ago

Because it's easy to port over a PC version to x86 hardware. It's practically free money for them.

^PockyKing beat me to it.

MASTER_RAIDEN3767d ago (Edited 3767d ago )

Not sure why youre seeing so many disagrees. i completely agree though. i just dont understand why (in the name of gamer interests, anyway) bethesda would bring skyrim out for next gen. the game itself is fairly inexpensive by now and has seen a couple years on store shelves. i think the majority of people who've wanted to play skyrim have by now.

Kryptonite42O3767d ago

I'd buy it... again.
I think its a solid idea. Especially if they fine tuned the graphics to make it look a bit better.
The replay value is pretty solid on a game as vast as skyrim

SneakyDoo3767d ago

Yeah, except there are currently no games for next gen at all. It's perfectly fine porting it to ps4/X1- skyrim was a great game and fans will love the upgrade.

Ju3767d ago

And believe it or not, there are people who haven't played the last gen version. What's with the game nazis in here? Let them do it. Nobody forces you to buy those games. These are still great games and would sure look nice on next gen - without costing the devs an arm and a leg to make those.

360ICE3767d ago

I really don't see the point with The Last of Us. It actually ran very well on last-gen, whereas Skyrim didn't. I might even consider this if it runs perfectly and looks better.

sweendog3767d ago

I would buy this game again. I had it on PS3 and I couldnt finish it as it was broken. That game made me realise that last gen was holding things back. Would love to play it how it was meant to be

3767d ago
esemce3767d ago

Err it's called easy effing money, that's the point add all the DLC and maybe some exclusive sh1t. 60fps@1080p better textures and maybe improved lighting etc you know it will sell and so do bethesda.

We may see alot of this as it is easy to port the PC versions to PS4/XBone and just add some extras to sweeten the deal and maybe a reduced price, probably will be full priced though as they can use the 'next gen excuse'.

denero13767d ago

I agree, but apparently a lot of people want to play an older game on a new console :|

showtimefolks3766d ago (Edited 3766d ago )

1080P
60FPS
better textures
include all the dlc

i will happily pay $60 on ps4

also where is the next fallout game?

JohnnyTower3767d ago

Screw Elder Scrolls Online, I would kill to play an enhanced version of Skyrim. That is the one true game I would say is the pinnacle of the last generation of consoles.

punisher993767d ago

The Elder Scrolls online seems pretty messed up to me. I'd love to see Skyrim come to the PS4 and xbox1 considering the fact that i have not played it yet.

JohnnyTower3767d ago

Ive put quite a few hours in and I would love to start a new character/race. Im not a fan of Elder Scrolls fees either.
Ps-I like the Punisher handle. If you've ever read some really old War Zone, you'll know who Johnny Tower is.

voodoochildnyc3767d ago

screw the hatred bro, you're right on the money.

CrossingEden3767d ago

I wouldn't say that skyrim is the pinnacle of last generation consoles when other rpgs like the witcher 2 and dark souls blow it out of the water, I really liked skyrim but a perfect way to describe it is to say that it's a as wide as an ocean but as deep as a shallow pond.

Pennywise1383767d ago

I would only get it if its one of those 10 dollar upgrade games and if they can somehow transfer my 325 hours worth the save data over to next gen.

GamersHeaven3767d ago

Oblivion HD remake would have had me sold Skyrim was crap in comparison.

Eyeco3767d ago

What would be the point of a HD remake of an already HD game released on consoles that are still alive ?

I agree with other posters, it's completely pointless to release an old current gen game unless they released a collection including Morrowind, seeing as it was never released on consoles, shame as well it's my favourite TES title.

Newer games, it's completely understandable, I wouldn't mind seeing an enhanced/ Directors cut port of games like TLOU, GTA V with a higher NPC count at 1080p 60FPS, it could and should be done.

I have allot of friends that gamed on the 360, that wanna move to the PS4 but are bummed out that it's not BC, because they really wanna play TLOU

BluP3767d ago

"...unless they released a collection including Morrowind, seeing as it was never released on consoles..."

Morrowind was on original Xbox.

Eyeco3767d ago

True, I somehow forgot that the Original Xbox was basically a trojan horse for PC gaming, still a much wider release wouldn't do any harm seeing as how Skyrim has created a huge fanbase for TES.

Irishguy953767d ago

Go back and play Oblivion, it was even worse than Skyrim gameplay wise. Level scaling was WAY worse. Only the stories were better.

Morrowind remake is deserved.

Moncole3767d ago

If you own Morrowind and skyrim on Steam you cam download a mod that recreates morrowind with the Skyrim engine.

rarity3767d ago

i bet it's gonna be $60 like tomb raider definitive edition

Agent_hitman3767d ago

I guess you're right about that

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast27d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22927d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko27d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave27d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan27d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
