IGN - The latest build of Oculus' VR 3D headset adds motion capture technology and more.

bunt-custardly3787d ago

Absolutely stunning. Let the gaming revolution begin.

starchild3787d ago

I have known I would be getting a Rift from the moment I had hands on time with the dev unit. Knowing that it is just getting better and better is so exciting. I truly can't wait until the consumer model launches.

Jughead34163787d ago

Ooh, he had an XBOX ONE controller didn't he?

Mr Tretton3787d ago (Edited 3787d ago )

No. That was a later gen 360 controller, all black. I have one on my desk next to me.

christocolus3787d ago

Definitely a day one purchase when the retail release hits.

GentlemenRUs3787d ago

When is such a strong word...

We won't see the light of it till 2015-16...

The Great Melon3786d ago (Edited 3786d ago )

It's coming sometime this year. Remember that Palmer Luckey said that should be months not years away. Come next E3 some developers will have had devkits for over year at that point. Oculus just a had to wait for content to be created and let the tech mature through a year's worth of Q&A with developers.

My guess is that we will hear a release date sometime in the summer/fall placing the release in the winter timeframe of 2014. If it does extend into 2015 I wouldn't think it would be any later than summer 2015.

Killzoner993787d ago

Sony's been working on VR tech for a long time now. I think I'll wait until they release theirs for the PS4.

General Shrooms3787d ago

ill care about sony's vr as soon as the show something.

jollygoodchap83787d ago (Edited 3787d ago )

...Good for you?

If you kept track on this you'd know they're only focusing on PC.

Pandamobile3787d ago

You guys keep saying that but we don't know anything about Sony's HMD other than a few patents (which indicates its still pretty early in development compared to the Rift)

webeblazing3787d ago

If it ain't Sony its not worth buying right n4psfb

starchild3787d ago

It's really just a rumour at this point. Oculus is a company completely dedicated to VR. If Sony does come out with a VR headset it is going to have to be cheaper since it is a peripheral for a console. I guarantee that the Rift will always be better.

MadLad3787d ago (Edited 3787d ago )

Well, we know the tech behind the Rift is fantastic and that they have some great minds on board and an early version of it that works well enough that they let the public try it out.

What we have from Sony is "We also are working with VR and it will be really, really good. Trust us". Personally, I would rather just back the tech that actually has something to show and then let the others prove themselves down the road.
Then again, knowing you, knowing that Sony is working with VR as well, I wouldn't put it past you to go with that, even if it ended up being worse than the Rift.

kingduqc3787d ago

There is many reasons why the sony VR headset won't work and I'll tell you why.

First, the hardware inside ps4 isn't capable of pushing high resolution at a fast pace. Even in 1080p you can count the pixel inside a VR headmount display. They are aiming 1600k/4k resolution to truly bring a good experience to the gamer. The ps4 can barely do 1080p at 30 fps.yet alone 1600p at 60 fps.

Second, Game support. With the pc, people can just mod the games to make it work. Right now there is still about a year from release and there is almost more game that support Oculus then there is games on ps4. So really the fictional sony VR would have a number of game you can play on that you could count on a single hand, maybe the two if you are lucky.

third, there is no way they can keep pushing VR with a locked down platform software wise and hardware wise compare to an open platform.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7375d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt375d ago (Edited 375d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow375d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal375d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt375d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
