Alien Isolation gameplay & details – one unscripted alien, no guns: all the scares OPM

OPM: Creative Assembly and Sega have finally announced the oft leaked Alien Isolation – a minimal first person survival horror based on the original 1979 film and staring Amanda Ripley – daughter of Sigourney Weaver’s original heroine – and one lone alien.

I just hope they don't f#@* it up. Alien has so much potential, but it has never really been tapped. The two most abused franchises in gaming are Alien and 007 IMO. I want this to be good, but I will not get my hopes up. GT did a good interview though.

What Gearbox did with the Alien franchise was nearly destroy it. Speaking of which, I saw the collector's edition for Aliens: Colonial Marines selling brand new for less than $10.

I commend this attempt to bring the isolated horror of the original alien film, but I just don't get why they had to put Riplys daugter in this. I DON'T GET THE CONNECTION! They were better off keeping the cast new. And another area they are already screwing up off the bat is how they are making the Alien sound. Watching the 1st film, you never really hear how the alien sound until at end when Ripley set off some steam volves in the escape shuttle at startled it out of it sleep. It was a very high pitched errie shrill, while this alien in the demo sounded like a roaring monster from that crap movie Alien Ressurection. Those are the only 2 gripes that turn me off instantly. But I still have hope for this title, will be watching out for this game development.

Yeah, I was going to say the same. Leave the original canon out of it. The Ripley's daughter thing is incredibly dumb. It should have been a completely new crew. I always thought a good mechanic would've been about you being part of a crew, and you get a better score/ending depending on how many crew members you save and/or make it out alive.

The potential the Alien world has for a great game is huge, pity the studios behind the latest games constantly fook it up. The last great one was AvP2.

Looks fantastic. Better effort than what Gearbox did and I'm glad they are using the first Alien as a reference. Aliens was good but Alien is/was a terrifying film and a better film if you ask me.

All they need to do for a sequel to this game (which looks awesome), is to up the alien count and give you guns with VERY little ammo... like the film!

Colonial Marines really tainted the franchise. People aren't even giving this game a chance.

They're not even watching the gameplay videos or reading the articles. They're hating on it immediately and saying crap like "shooting humans!!!"..."a million aliens!!!"

It's pretty sad.

I'm not really an Alien fan. I thought Aliens was great though, but I've not played an Alien game. I was tempted to get Colonial Marines, but after the terrible feedback I decided not to get it.

This game on the other hand looks amazing and I think this could be the gen where survival horror returns, because it was lacking last gen, bar a few titles. I look forward to buying this.

I really like the slow, stealthy approach. This might turn out to be pretty good. Though I did notice that, while most of the lighting looks really good, the character doesn't cast a shadow (most noticeable at the beginning of the clip when she turns away from the sunlit window). Hopefully this is just cause it's early in the development and can be added easily.

I really like how focus shifts between the motion sensor and the environment.

It looks scary as all hell. I wasn't even playing and the tension I felt from just watching was thicker than a fog Over Loch Ness, Scottland. Terrifying. And that instant death. I'm reminded of the Clickers and the Bloaters in The Last Of Us.

I like the idea of One alien, and obviously a scatter of small guys that will keep you entertained. Its like "The thing" The terrifying thing wasnt that you couldnt fight it, it was that it could kill you at any moment and you had no idea where it was, and the situation of being able to fight it was incredibly rare.

On a side note I have banned all gearbox games going forward for that reaction from gearbox after they heard the feedback. Never support a company who laughs back at you.
