PS4 vs PS3 Dynasty Warriors 8 Video Comparison Doesn’t Really Show the Generational Gap

Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends is one of the first PS4/PS3 cross-generation Japanese games to be released (at least in the Asian market), and a video showcasing the difference between the two platforms has popped up on YouTube.

You mean better on PS4 get some glasses. Look at the detail on the guy's armor from the PS4 version, compared to the PS3 that have a ugly line in the middle of the armor. The Lightning and dirt moving like dust(1:49) is so much better on PS4 too. Not to forget the Anti Alias and no jiggies on the PS4 version.

The Dynasty Warrior were never really visually stunning. In fact, the last gen versions of the games were hardly a step up over the DW games a generation prior.

has anyone youtubed the actual gameplay?? you can see a trillion enemies on screen far down the battle field. It really is a sight to behold and that alone is worth of a next gen jump.

Exactly, this is the dumbest comparison video I have seen. Nothing shown there are game play but simply cut scenes which obviously PS3 does not have much issue making them look as pretty as it can possibly handle. I do not own this game. but I have watch it on live stream quite a bit and definitely quite a step up from PS3 version. Cant say it is totally next gen from the visual stand point but what do you expect from a cross plat game that runs on the same engine with probably some textures being upgraded? In fact quite a bit of assets in the game are obviously the same asset from the last gen version. First of all DW games have never been a visual beast, the gfx upgrade is still decent for this game. secondly the game simply run so much more better during game play. with much more enemies on screen and 0 frame drops even in the most hectic situation. And you dont suddenly see NPC goes disappearing which happen a lot usually in a DW games especially on last gen consoles.

Hardly the game to use as a benchmark. Plus was probably just ported from ps3 to ps4 without any improvements.

It's dynasty warriors . You'll never see a big gap unless built up from zero for your new console . A nicer version is still enough if you like the franchise , in the meantime

It's the small details such as slightly better lighting, textures and anti-aliasing. Looks fine on both the PS3 and PS4 imo.

TK isn't known to push tech & graphics, they make games that are fun to play and that's what matters the most.

there will be a disc version as far as what I know and it is call Complete Edition which will include the original and the new expansion both game on just 1 disc

The PS4 version is definitely much better and has a higher resolution. Also has more intense fog and sharper models with more realistic shadows. The Art Style is consistent but the PS4 version is indeed superior.

I find these comparisons retarded....New Gen consoles have arrived only a month ago...to truly see these consoles we have to wait at least till this year's end when games designed for those consoles arrive...Old games are just ported with high res textures that's it...

No improvements? I see a sort of mist in the start, there's nothing like that on the PS3 version. And the armor seem better. Ok, it's not the huge leap they could show, but i see the improvement anyway (i repeat, it's not a huge one but it's there).

Even though it's port , to my eyes, there's a tremendous difference between the two.

1-Much better polygon count
2-Detailed characters self shadows
3-Armor maping and reflections
4-Better light calculation
5-Highter resolution textures
6-Much better anti aliasing and hair filtering

PS3 version is clearly holding back PS4 version. Game is made for lowest common denominator.

There is no holding back. Main platform is PS3 where it'll sell way more. The day the PS4 sells more and it's not the main platform in development then you could claim what you say. The same applies to PC gaming where most multiplats outsell PC ports by quite a bit.

Making a game for obsolete hardware and porting to newer hardware (i.e PS4) only means that ps4 hardware was not used to max potential.

It's all in the developers hand. Powerful hardware in the hands of a studio that doesn't have the artistic and technical ability (or enough time) won't show what it's capable of. That goes for any platform. Few studios are able to maximize a hardware's power, and it makes it all the more difficult when the game is cross-gen. I am looking forward to games that are not released on past-gen consoles as well as new-gen consoles so we can see what they are truly capable of. Like Infamous SS, The Division, Driveclub, The Order, Halo and so on.

I prefer the ps3 version. Ps4 has some horrible soft focus thing going on. You lose all the detail in the backgrounds on PS4 and lots more background fog. I guess this meant to be nmore realistic but I personally don't like it.
