Square Enix already botched the pricing for Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut on Wii U. Now they are making the same mistake for Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on PS4 and Xbox One.

Its up to us the consumers to stand up and let publishers know that we won't support 60 dollar full HD remakes

pompombrum3770d ago

Agreed.. until FF 10 HD remake comes out.. I'd pay 120 dollars for that if I had to /blush

DragonKnight3770d ago

@aiBreeze: Then let me rephrase that...

"Its up to us the consumers to stand up and let publishers know that we won't support 60 dollar full HD remakes of kind of ok games."

FFX is in a league of its own and would be worth it.

Prime1573770d ago

Aibreeze, I would argue timing. Like from release to release.

yoshiroaka3770d ago

I can see the future headlines now.

"Squareenix says their next gen port of Tomb Raider did not meet sales expectations of 20 million copies."

hulk_bash19873770d ago

Agreed you don't like the price then speak with your wallet. Don't buy the game on release so they know that the price isn't right.

ifistbrowni3770d ago

Didn't they have problems selling the 360/ps3 version for $60??? Could have swore it was price cut within a month.

Same applies here. They must be high.

Tdmd3770d ago (Edited 3770d ago )

Nope, it sold really well and was highly praised by most reviewers and gamers. SE just had ridiculous expectations about their game. The same happened with Hitman and Deus Ex...

KonsoruMasuta3770d ago

This should have been around 40 dollars, at the most. That seems about the norm for most HD ports.

Utalkin2me3770d ago

Or do like everyone else. If you own it on last gen console for 10 bucks you get the next gen version also.

DarkHeroZX3769d ago

That's only if you bought it within a months time. After that period you can't upgrade.

Amigaengine3770d ago

Unless Nintendo charges $50.00

Yodagamer3770d ago

Most nintendo games go for a premium for the original version anyways, Nintendo has no reason to release an updated version for less when people are already willing to pay the same price for a used version of the old game. Supply and demand my friend

deafdani3769d ago (Edited 3769d ago )

Wind Waker HD? Yup, I paid those $50 gladly. Remaster or not, it's still one of the best games to play in 2013.

On the other hand, remember Metroid Prime: Trilogy? All three Metroid Prime games in a single package, with the first two reworked for Wii controls, and with widescreen support. All in a superb hard steel case, and for only $30 (when it released).

Pretty hard to top that one.

WPX3769d ago

@deafani

Not only that, but trying to find an USED copy now for less than $60-80 today is nigh impossible. And its value continues to go up in price too.

rainslacker3770d ago

meh, this game will be easy to find in 6 months time unlike some remakes, so just wait for it to drop in price. It's not like it's a 10+ year old remake that most people haven't played in a long time. Heck, the PS3/360 versions actually looked pretty good.

I would bet before next holiday season you'll be able to pick this up for around $19.99 new.

Maybe SE just wants to get the people willing to spend that much at first to quickly drop the price in 6-8 weeks time. It's not uncommon.

weekev153770d ago

I was just about to post the exact same thing. Now I don't have to, thanks

BX813770d ago

$60, lol. I was looking forward to this game since I didn't play it on my 360 but nothing I saw @ vgx warrants such a price point. If it was a new game I could understand.

Seraphim3770d ago

If you've never played this game there's no reason to take up issue w/ the $60 price point. It's a new game to you still. Not to mention it's a great game so to anyone who hasn't played it or already bought it there's really no reason they shouldn't be interested because it's full price. I think everyone up in arms over the pricing are those of us who have bought it &/or played it & see no reason to pay another $60 for it and see no reason Square should be asking fans to fork over another $60 for minimal updates & expense on their behalf. Which is the big problem. Being gamers 90% of Next Gen owners are people who likely played it or bought it once already; not like the game was just released in the last few months.... Why would be inclined to spend another $60 on the same game w/ trivial updates? idk, personally had I not bought and played it I'd happily scoop this up for $60. Especially since there's nothing else out or coming soon.

AceBlazer133770d ago

If you hadn't played it before why are you concerned with the price tag? It's those who already own the game that have the right to complain.

rainslacker3770d ago

@ 2 above

You can get the current gen version for around $20 new. That means the game is worth about $20.

Now this is a "FULL HD" remake, so that warrants a slight bump in the price, but a full $60?

Don't get me wrong. I brought the game at $60 and felt it was worth every penny. It's a stellar game. But that doesn't change the fact that prettier graphics don't warrant a $40 markup. All the added DLC...maybe...but $40 worth? GOTY editions do this now and release about $20-30 cheaper than they originally did.

Seraphim3770d ago

Just because you can get it for around $20 new doesn't mean that's the current MSRP. Perhaps these retailers we love and price drops we love are spoiling us a little too much. Black Friday it was $15 so should we now argue it's worth only $15 because that's what it could have been bought for? Now don't get me wrong, I don't agree with $60 and it seems $40 would be the reasonable things to do to maximize sales but if you haven't bought or played it there's no reason for complaints. If you didn't buy it for $15-20 would you really buy this edition for $40? Highly unlikely. Plus it's not like there's any other games out there or coming too soon for PS4/X1 gamers so anyone who hasn't played it should be grateful SE is doing this because it is a fantastic game worth playing. If you have a PS3/360 and haven't played it by all means save the $ if you want and buy it for said console. That's your choice. But don't go complaining about the price point on PS4/X1 because you haven't played or bought it because if you can't spend $15-20 on it you almost certainly wouldn't be spending $40...

Gremdude3769d ago

I personally think this is genius for Square. There are ZERO games coming out for Xbox One and PS4. This game will sell at least 100,000 copies on each platform so figure 12 million bucks! If they sold it for $30, would it sell twice as much? Perhaps but they would make the same amount of money. Would they sell more than twice? Very unlikely for this game to sell more than 200,000 copies on either platform. Like I said genius. Is it right? Probably not but since when do companies do the right thing unless forced to? Looking at you Microsoft

Are_The_MaDNess3770d ago

its Enix...... they are bad with pricing in general.
have you seen the prices for the ipad games they have released? insane for such old games, good games but still old.

JBSleek3770d ago

Well if the consumer buys it then they do know how to price them.

If people don't except this outrageous price then they shouldn't buy it. Square will definitely get the message. There is no reason this shouldn't be $30-40 at the most.

The Best Tomb Raider Games Ranked

We've gone on many adventures with Lara Croft. With another reboot in the making, Wealth of Geeks felt it was a good time to go down the nostalgia rabbit hole and remember the best of those tomb-raiding thrills.

I do agree that Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness was the worse one 😂 I remember playing some of it and I took it back. That game was just awful in every way. I bought it used at gamestop and glad they had that 7 day return policy for used games 😂

Pyrofire9564d ago

Would it be worth saying why?

ZeekQuattro64d ago

Simple. He's been hating on the Tomb Raider reboots for years. I can't imagine seeing them at the top of a best TR game list let alone being on the list in general sitting well with him because of it.

-Foxtrot64d ago

Zeek

“Hating”

No no, just pointing out how TR mutated into a generic action adventure game losing the appeal of what it once was when it was more about puzzles and platforming over going Rambo, slaughtering waves of enemies

But hey, continue being a dick and speaking about me like I’m not going to see the comment.

MeatyUrologist63d ago

Foxtrot, I'm curious if you have played the most recent games. Sure the 2013 reboot was hugely focused on combat, but each follow up became less and less about combat to the point where outside of a few large scale story missions I don't even remember combat being a part of shadow of the tomb raider. Shadow was so puzzle focused it actually was a bit much for me and I love the TR puzzles.

I still feel like Rise was the best of the series and I was a huge fan of the originals. To me it struck the perfect balance of exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat. Not saying your opinion is wrong I'm just curious what you think they should have done different. Games do need to evolve somewhat to stay relevant. Would you prefer small linear jumping platform levels like the original?

RavenWolfx64d ago

I would agree Rise for 1 and the reboot as 2. Shadow is a bit high, though.

Sonic188164d ago (Edited 64d ago )

I think Shadow wasn't even develop by crystal dynamics. I thought it was the worse in the new trilogy

Pyrofire9564d ago

That's right. Shadow was developed by Eidos Montreal who who went and made Marvels Guardians of the Galaxy next. (Great game)
Meanwhile after Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics made Marvels Avengers. (bad game)

MeatyUrologist64d ago

Agrees. First two are correct but Shadow should be around 5-6.

terstomp64d ago

For me, Legend should be alot higher (along with the other two ). Shadow, I enjoyed it, but has too much has fluff, as modern games tend to do. Playing the remastered series, and apart from the controls, is very good.

jznrpg64d ago

I really enjoyed the first 2 games, Legend and the first of the reboots and the rest I didn’t get into so I never finished.

robtion64d ago

Completely subjective list. I really liked Underworld, I preferred Lara's design. That said I loved the horror/uncharted feel of the reboot. I think all the TR games have strengths and weaknesses. None are objectively better in every way.
