Horny Melon: PS3 GTA IV Review

GTA IV is the first installment of the GTA franchise on the current gen platforms. It was released simultaneously on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game couldn't have been more hyped, living in LA we have seen everything from banners on buildings, to billboards, to posters in the crappiest sections of town. GTA articles were taking over blogs and websites for the whole week leading up to, and most likely following, the release.

I'm sorry but this review is laughable. I really hope you don't call yourself a journalist. Let me just say this off the bat i RESPECT your opinion. But when you doct the score of the game because it didn't have "turf wars" or battling for ground from the previous games it just doesn't make sense in the contextual use. Seriously it doesn't. How would it have worked going in with the more mature story vibe of GTA4? This isn't just about rising to the top of the chain or whatever but actually have some substance to the plot, as well as the driving not being that bad (though could use refinement).

Let me not even get started, 9/10 for graphics? Are you kidding me? All the characters have a strange yellow mist sprayed on their skin that makes it seem like they are glowing, the npc's isn't as detailed as the npc's in assassins creed. Now i'm not saying the graphics are horrible but a 9 out of 10? It's THAT close to perfection in your eyes? And who the hell makes a category for extra content?

Oh yeah looking around your site i see this is YOUR FIRST VIDEO GAME REVIEW EVER ON YOUR SITE. Like i said i respect your opinion and even agree with you on some aspects (still bad aiming etc). But when you grade the content of the game a 6 out of 10 then go on to say "There is just an outrageous amount of stuff to do in this game. I put maybe 8+ hours into this game for 5 days and have still not beat it. I haven’t even touched any of the side quests yet." it just reeks of bullshit. you have to understand that no game is capable of 100. 100 is flawless no game reaches that. Only fan boys think they can. Even the best games will likely get a 10 in only one or two categories. For instance. Spore, Second life, and Unreal 3 for PS3 would get 10s in content. Why? Because they allow user generated content...meaning the sky is potentially limitless. For graphics a ten would be running at max resolution capable for platform at 60 fps...GT5, Cyris..are examples. A good review is realistic.

On the PC the fixed 90% of the bugs with patches the rest were covered by unofficial patches. Prey....I didn't say that. Like I said before you call me a hater but I give rockstar tons of credit all through the review except for a few key areas.

Have you played all the GTAs or is this your first one? If it's your first I can see why you would want it to have a higher score. There is a bunch to do in the game no doubt but 70% of it was in the first 5.

Swedish Gamereactor mentioned in their 10/10 review that they were pretty surprised regarding the difference between the PS3 and 360-versions. The PS3-version features better colours, contrast, load times and what looks to be better resolution textures. The game also looks sharper and has a more stable fps.

As a true gamer and a non-fanboy, I welcome any opinion about a game. Especially the ones that are over-hyped. There is a definite learning curve for the controls. However, once I learned it after a few hours of playing, the game became more fun. I am still having trouble with the helicopter controls but I am sure that with more practice, I will be flying everywhere in the city. I personally would give a score of 9.5/10.

Any game that can get me sitting there for 9 hours straight playing single player and multiplayer deserves nothing less the a 98/100. I have has the most fun doing drive-bys in Team deathmatch then anything Ive played this Gen.

The game might get a little repetitive, but we all knew that coming in... how many variations of a mission can we do before it feels the same. But!!! Its the multiplayer that has me sucked in... The only thing I would knock it for is AUTOAIM. It should be off by default. It should be banned from MP.... but that with the few other MINOR problems can be patched. Horny Melon, Review cooking momma... Im sure the little girls will love it.

Yea I kind of agree that the early missions are like go fetch kill this person, but later in game around lets say after 20% things start to get real fun like robbing banks going into places killing like 15 guys then running from cops with like 4 stars. Based on your review seems like you played it for like 5hrs and then did your review. You also said that they got away from the italion mobsters thing... Im pretty sure that the first mob you work for are Italian... so that makes me think you really havent gotten far enough to make a review.

About gameplay yea its a tad annoying but its not a 4/10 annoying like a 8/10 annoying. I rarely switch off to civilians while shooting my biggest problem is cylcing between enemies. After they hide and som1 comes out of hiding its a little hard to cycle to the other person to blow his brains out.

Also you rated the AI bad there not that bad they are pretty smart or smart enough for me. They do advance but they dont retreat I remember in the musuem mission that one snuck up on me from behind which annoyed the shyt out of me because at that point in the game your medical bills are like 6 grand.

All in all I think your review is kinda BS. GTA is a much better game than a mere 3/4.

Gotta say man, even though everyone on here is flaming the hell out of you for giving GTA4 that review score I have to say that I agree with on pretty much everything in the review.

I'm not anywhere near close to completing the game but a few things already irk the hell out of me. The girlfriends/friends thing seems to be more of a hindrance than anything because those stupid calls pop up and 1) your all the way across town and cant get there in time and 2) they pop up in a mission and you can't accept it and both of those usually end up lowering your overall "social popularity" with the contact.

While I found no problem with the gun targeting at all (haven't ever mistakenly targeted a civilian) I do think that the melee combat is a little dry. It just seems so slow and random at times.

I agree with the vehicles statement. Sometimes at even crawling speeds it feels as if the damn vehicles just refuse to turn and at high speed chases when your trying to run away you end you careening off the road and slamming in to a building because your vehicle just wont turn. I understand that bigger bulkier cars are harder to manuver but even the smaller faster cars seem to fight you when your turning.

All in all, I agree, The game is awesome and deserves its triple-A status but it IS still more of the same (good and bad) GTA that we've known since GTA3.

So you're in Alderney and your girlfriend is in Dukes, you have to get there in 1 hour. Do you honestly think you can drive there within 1hr?? That isn't even possible in a real trip from NJ to Queens during the day(may be a little more possible at night, even in the game it's possible at night).

Hence the reason for trip skip in taxis and/or using Brucie's helicopters(if you've worked on keeping in good contact with him).

It was cool as part of the story but trying to be a bad a$$ killer who has to go bowling everyday with some looser gets boring. Yeah 75 is harsh but I didnt use the features of previous games/my expectations to review it in my own head. I simply think it is a brilliant game. He mentions forming a gang? This isnt san andreas, Nico isnt in a gang, that wouldent fit in the story too well. The whole gang part takes place online anyways.

I figured taht he gave it a 75 because he experienced problems, sounds like hes bitter against the best sandbox game that has ever been made.

Just a note to Horny Melon about acquiring henchmen.
If you've acquired a good friendship level with a certain character in the game you can call him to send you some goons to help you out with missions or just general mayhem.
If you haven't thoroughly played the game to understand it's mechanics then it doesn't deserve this score and is automatically discredited.

I must admit that I agree with him about the lack of extra content. Police missions have been vastly improved but the lack of gang warfare and business purchasing was definitely a downer for me. With that being said I think his score is way low, and it's hard to take seriously when he was already pessimistic about it before he even picked it up.

Heh, so someone actually has the balls to give this title a score lower than 9/90% and he gets attacked for his opinion. GTA fans sure are classy.

I'll admit that his gammer is questionable at places and he is harsh on certain aspects of the game but it is still his opinion. Don't like it? Then leave this site and go enjoy your game. Simple, isn't it?

also I bet Microsoft paid you to drop the PS3's average score in ratings so they can sell more.100% sure,,,,Otherwise this much emphasis on PS3 in the title is nonsense when they are basically the same and you didn't mention any spesific details that shows you played the PS3 version in your crappy article.

I know this is a bad review, but I must admit I am not a GTA fan have GTA III/IV inc vice city, but have found it difficult to get involved.
I need genuine advice here, Do I go for it or do I wait till it comes down in price.

GTA fried my PS3, WTF. I started playing it this morning, 20% into it and it locked up. Turned it off restarted it and just keeps showing loading icon on the upper righthand corner. Tried a different game, then Blueray movie and same thing. Doesnt even show the disc icon on the menu. Never had a problem with it till now and its the 80g version so it hasnt been long since ive had it. Erased all my data which was f@cked up enough, reformatted the HD and still nothing. Trying system restore which takes 5 hours, but that prolly is a waste of time. Called Sony and they will repair it for free, lucky its still under warranty. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions on how to get it to work again? Im on my 3rd 360 too, what gives with all these faulty new game systems these days? Looks like i will be playing alot of Mario Kart on the Wii, seems to be the only system that doesnt break down on ya. What gives man!
