When you hear the word "Shinobi" paired with "Genesis," odds are, 1989's Revenge of Shinobi comes to mind. Before we could plunge headfirst into the go-go '90s, Sega's ninja-platformer gave us all a taste of what the 16-bit era had to offer with its huge sprites, pumping Yuzo Koshiro jams, and its decidedly non-Nintendo edginess -- discounting the fact that it includes Batman, Spider-Man, and Godzilla (or non-copyright infringing variants of them) as bosses, of course.

Neon Ninja began as a brainstorm between students under the wing of Excamedia for a simple Android game. The original concept was an infinite sidescrolling runner, using a single button to control the entire game, plus some power-ups.
Starting the project, it was originally inspired by games like Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden, but eventually even games like Comix Zone started to influence the project. And there is was Neon Ninja.
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is one of the best classic games from SEGA. In its original release received very good reception thanks to good graphics, good music and a surprisingly versatile main character. Like the original Sonic came out at the peak of the rivalry with Nintendo, so it's like a punch in the stomach in height fans now see this version come to the 3DS. Among the three games that were entitled to this new treatment to 3D 3DS Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is the one that stands out.
Once again, another game that should have been on all platforms. Oh well. Gamers that played that game back in the day are scattered all over the place.
I remember playing that game for hours as a kid around 1995... beat the whole game a couple of times. My favorite level was the surfing one

With the exception of the first game, the Shinobi series unfortunately falls into that category. However, thanks to Sega’s recent efforts to 3D-ify some of their classic Genesis titles, I’ve finally been able to give Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master a shot. I’m happy to report that not only is this title still fantastic today, but that M2 has done a phenomenal job in bringing this game to the 3DS."
The 3d is awesome in this game, now I want more 3d makeovers of the 16-bit era!
